2024 Summer of Soccer - Euro's, Copa America, Olympics, WCQing (3 Viewers)

I am trying to buy a Lamine Yamal autograph rookie card. Turns out there's an s-ton of them out there, different types. No idea what I'm doing. Having fun learning though. I think this kid's the real deal. The fact that I'm in Spain and headed to Barcelona tomorrow has nothing to do with it. I swear.
Like on ebay? I would be very careful about buying anything in Spain that you want to be actually authentic.

Just traveling through for a family vacation. Looking to buy eBay "Guaranteed Authentic" from a US vendor. But I still wonder about authenticity and the Euros driving prices up a bit?

I love VAR... so quick and efficient.

Baseball and Football really need to implement it more for strikes/first downs.

I can't tell if this is a joke or not

But I do agree with this.
You don't like it? So many people always arguing about offsides calls in the past, it was crazy. So much controversy. Now within 30 seconds we 100% know if he was offside or not. I don't see the issue with it.

I haven't seen the automatic version yet (Haven't been able to watch many Euros matches) so I can not comment. I imagine it helps keep the flow of the game going.

I will say that I hate the idea of how precise they try to make the offside calls, looking for a toe or knee. No AR can see that and its just a reason to chalk off a goal. There is no advantage being gained by a toe or Fellini's fro. Offside should be held to the clear and obvious standard which is the spirit of the law.

ETA that they did a study and found something like 98% of the offside calls made by the AR were correct. VAR was partly instituted because of a player who was like 3 or 5 yards off scored and the AR missed it. But for some reason they decided clear and obvious should not apply to offside.

Part of somebody's eyelash or fingernail that's offsides somewhere in the build up should never ever ever rule out a goal. My 2c.

Fair enough opinion. The turkey goal today was literally a toe.

I think you have to be exact these days though. In the past there could be more judgement calls and it be okay... but with the camera quality/angles/replays that the viewing audience gets these days, if you miss even the toe being offside, there would be a fury of people posting screenshots of replays online saying that they lost/won even though they technically were offside.

I get what you are saying, people will find a reason to argue regardless. But don't draw lines, look at the freeze frame and go back to the even is on mantra they had when I was growing up. If you can not see him clearly off with the naked eye, he is on.

I get that... but unfortunately sports change, and have changed significantly with the camera's/technology. I don't think the mantra from 30 years ago can still really exist.

I agree it's probably better, but I like anything that can squash controversy. NFL is actually implementing a chip in the ball for first downs this year, so that should be interesting.

I just think they are taking to much out of the hands of the on field refs, and this doesn't need to be one of them. And people can still be shown the lines and try to find something to argue.

And I am looking forward to the NFL's usage of the chip. That makes sense.

Wait until baseball finally makes Umpires obsolete and it just beeps if it's a ball or a strike. It makes sense, but it will drive the traditionalists nuts.

:lmao: I am definitely a traditionalist. I hate the runner on 2nd for extras, the slide rules and a lot of the recent changes. Not sure on the pitch clock though.
I hate the use of the shift and the fact they felt a need to ban it instead of teach players to bunt or go the other way....

However, I am ALL FOR the robot umps on balls and strikes though.

That goal was fantastic. He's another one of those rising stars. 19 year old who has a hard time getting PT at Real Madrid.
I'm sure the media already has him linked with a 150m move to United despite the fact that RM doesn't sell anyone under 30 to United.
He actually agreed to sign with RM with the condition that he not get transferred. Not sure if that'll hold. He was going to Barca otherwise, but he wanted to go to RM. He's nicknamed the Turkish Messi. A lot to live up to obviously.

I have seen Lukaku fall short way too many times, missing shots that MUST be goals at this level, including last night.

What were those goals last night?

The two really good chances he put in, they just got called back. It was other Belgium players that had the other really good chances. Like the one 5 feet from the center of the goal against a defender covering the line (not even a goalie) that the guy kicked right into the defender's feet.

That was such an insane game!
Thanks again Fox 😡

I think I made a joke just a few days ago when someone was complaining about FOX shipping a few games as FUBO exclusives and used this specific game as my example to ridicule the idea like, "I'm sure you've been waiting all year with baited breath for Hungary - Turkey, dude." Turns out it sounds like it could have been the best game so far.
