2024 Summer of Soccer - Euro's, Copa America, Olympics, WCQing (6 Viewers)

That was such an insane game!
Thanks again Fox 😡

I think I made a joke just a few days ago when someone was complaining about FOX shipping a few games as FUBO exclusives and used this specific game as my example to ridicule the idea like, "I'm sure you've been waiting all year with baited breath for Hungary - Turkey, dude." Turns out it sounds like it could have been the best game so far.

That’s the thing - we’ve watched enough of these international tournaments over the years where we know that games like these a lot of times end up being the most fun for neutrals, and then you get the predictable snoozefests like England-Serbia.

a buddy just texted me wondering "Stu Holden can't be America's best analyst".

I told him its a pretty low bar. Would he rather Lalas or Donovan?

That goal was fantastic. He's another one of those rising stars. 19 year old who has a hard time getting PT at Real Madrid.
Arda Guler Euro debut?

19 year old " Arda Guler " has broken Cristiano Ronaldo's record from 2004 to become the 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐆𝐄𝐒𝐓 player to ever score on their Euro debut.

That's just a really cool record to hold.
He might be the one. I've married into a Turkish family, so I hope so. I also love the way Lamine plays.

I have seen Lukaku fall short way too many times, missing shots that MUST be goals at this level, including last night.

What were those goals last night?

The two really good chances he put in, they just got called back. It was other Belgium players that had the other really good chances. Like the one 5 feet from the center of the goal against a defender covering the line (not even a goalie) that the guy kicked right into the defender's feet.
I can't get highlights where I am, but I recall being frustrated on a few occasions, and I'd even argue that one of the goals he scored that was called back he smashed due to frustration. He knows part of what he's playing for is his reputation, and that's an unhealthy spot to be in.

In the absence of being able to access links, I'll let the BBC speak for me:

But while Sutton believes the VAR decision was incorrect, he stressed that Lukaku had enough earlier chances to score.

"In truth, it was lousy from Lukaku in the first half. It was three huge opportunities that he normally gobbles up," added Sutton.

"He could have had the Golden Boot [awarded to the tournament's top goalscorer] wrapped up already. Slovakia haven't actually created too many chances - but it is about Belgium being wasteful."

It is a low bar for sure.

To be fair though, one thing you should explain to your friend that soccer is on a hundred different channels/streams in the US, and each has their own commentators and color guys. Stew may or may not be Fox's best but Fox only controls a small portion of the on screen soccer talent in the US.

FIFA has to be more consistent on these rules. The refs are only suppose to be required to stop play on a head injury. The ref just ruined a Croatian attack for no reason.

Players are going to continue to act injured if it is to their advantage.

I don't think this is correct - for instance England are winning Group C - and would play a 3rd place team from Groups D/E/F

ETA - based on the formula - that is currently Poland. And, I see you have Portugal twice, so probably meant for the the second one to be Poland.

Oh he knows, he isn't a newbie.

Of the Americans across all platforms:
Holden is bearable for me. He and Tim Howard are fine. They don't really go out on any limbs, they are just kind of there. I think Edu is pretty good and Dempsey can be fun. Twellman seems to have been hit by every limb. Lalas tries to jump out on any limb he can find, real or imaginary. Donovan can't even find the tree.
