2025 Year-end Song Draft - We've Started, join in and pick a song or twenty four (3 Viewers)

20. Legss — Broadcast

This album never got much traction but it was my #7 most listened to album of the year. I love it. It’s kind of up one of my more strange alleys though.

If heaven did exist, surely Woodie Guthrie would be smiling down on this one

20. Jesse Wells - Join Ice

I love Jesse Welles. I almost posted "United Health" in the 2025 New Music thread, but it was right after the CEO was murdered and I was afraid it was too political to pass muster with the mods.

I did post last April in the "What are you listening to now?" thread a great live cover he did of Nirvana's "Heart Shaped Box" in Denver, but that is unavailabe on Spotify and he has yet to do a studio version of it.

20.dq - Rhiannon Giddens and Justin Robinson - John Henry

A pair of former Carolina Chocolate Drops getting back together for some old-time banjo and fiddle music.

Round 20

luv - Rear

Neo Soul/City Pop band from Osaka, Japan 🇯🇵 who describe themselves as Neo Disco, although this is a Funk, Jazz flavored Lounge tune with some cool piano, great bass line and unusual (for them) backing vocals.

I got 10-12 ideas for new albums to listen to from the Dissect podcast's favorites of 2025 episode, and yesterday I got stuck on 2 that I really dug. I see @The Dreaded Marco already took a pick from one of these, though.

19.kp: ASH TUESDAY - SCAB

20.kp: WEDNESDAY - ELDERBERRY WINE

OK, since none of you picked it, here is my favorite song of the year.

21.pip The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station -- CMAT

This is wonderfully bonkers. She randomly disses Jamie Oliver and then reconsiders because his kids might get upset, eventually realizing that this rant says more about her than him. She even has a couple of interludes where she tells the listener that she's not explaining herself very well and will try again. But the best part is toward the end where she lets out a wail worthy of Bjork.

Need a spotify account to track with this?
Do you have a different music service? I don’t have Spotify subscription, but was able to import the Spotify playlist into Apple Music, which is what I have subscription to.

(It only took me about 3 years of MAD stuff here to figure out that I could have been doing that all along.)

Yeah, I use Apple so will try that!

Was looking at my Review of 25 thinking I didn't really enjoy many new tunes

I was wrong in stating that I could have been doing it along (at least through approved means). Recently added feature with the new iOS updates. You will need a Spotify account (but can be free Spotify and don’t need to pay for it). Like the Playlist on Spotify to add to Spotify library. Then in iPhone/iPad Settings go to Apps -> Music. Select to “Transfer Music from Other Services,” link it to your Spotify account, find the playlist, and it will import over.

Thank you very much! I've considered upgrading my free Spotify account just for FFA music purposes even though I'm mostly happy with Apple Music otherwise. I just did this transfer and it worked perfectly!

Round 21

Maida Rose - All I Am

Dream Pop doesn't get much better than this.

"Maida Rose is a dreamy, atmospheric dreampop duo from The Hague, Netherlands, known for their immersive soundscapes, ethereal vocals, lush guitars, and lyrics exploring personal growth, memory, and young adulthood, often drawing comparisons to Beach House and Tame Impala."

22. The Lumineers — *******

They were mentioned in the draft but I don’t think anyone took them. It’s a good album and deserves a spot before we are done!

22.dq - Van Morrison - When the Rains Came

The lead single of “Down to Joy” appeared on the Belfast soundtrack a few years back. I’ll go for this track instead. Song title a nod to Brown-Eyed Girl.

Round 22

Soraia - Body In The Backyard 😬

🎶 Found a body in the backyard
Sh*t, I guess it's now my problem🎶

"Body In The Backyard" by Soraia is a blistering 2'34" punch of punk-fueled garage rock that crackles with urgency, dark humor, and a psychedelic edge. Hailing from Philadelphia, the quartet delivers a high-octane track that channels the irreverent spirit of The B-52s and the raw energy of Supergrass, wrapped in a tightly wound chord progression that pogo’s forward with relentless drive. At its core, the song is a biting satire on human apathy—how people often ignore suffering until it literally shows up in their own backyard.
