Best albums of 2018 - playlists in post #1 (1 Viewer)

this week's release radar tunes of interest...

Car Seat Headrest's new album keeps popping onto my spotify and I keep playlisting the tunes. haven't heard one that I haven't like yet.

spotify keeps putting Lionlimb on my lists... I think I've finally succumbed and playlisted a tune.

Weezer's acoustic happy hour- was surprisingly good.

DAF... I'm probably the only fan from their "der mussolini" days- but it's going back in time and scratching that minimal/industrial/keyboard itch.

our friend's kid plays bass in Pinky Pinky.. they have a new ep out, and I can't tell if it's legitimately good or just good to me because it's our friend's kid.

the singles I've heard from The Men have been a bit bizarro- almost acoustic early Feelies vibe to them. pretty good, but feels like a different vibe. haven't jumped into the whole album yet.

I gave the Soccer Mommy album a couple tries today because it sounded like something I'd like but it was just too damn slow for me.

Born Ruffians - Uncle, Duke & the Chief might be my early leader. Really nice return to form after their last ruff album.

Mixes garage-y stompers with some Spoon-ish more minimal rock and some Brian Wilson style ballads. With some songs that split the difference between those styles. Only 9 songs so it's good for my Spotified attention span as well and they vary enough to not wear out at all.

The title's inspired by the frontman's father being diagnosed with cancer and Bowie's death and a lot of the songs are lyrically melancholy but they do the singalong to deceptively depressing words thing very well IMO.

Anyway, in some ways it's their dreaded "more mature" album but the fact that I just typed all these words shows I really like it.

I don't think I've mentioned them here yet because they don't have an album out yet (it's out May 4) but I absolutely love Middle Kids. Trio from Australia, female lead singer, her husband is the guitarist. I can see them pretty easily crossing over and getting a huge mainstream following as well.

I just noticed they'll be at the Firefly festival this summer so I'll get to see them.  There are some pretty good down ticket acts this year (Ron Gallo, Royal Blood, Alex Lahey)  so should be fun.

Ron Gallo and Alex Lahey are two I'm definitely going to see at Bonnaroo.

Steve Reich has a new drumming music album. It's great if you like him. Or have 10 year old who is learning drums

It's hard not to have Guided By Voices fatigue with their never ending stream of albums but their new song today, "That's Good" is actually, very good. I guess an unfinished version of it previously appeared on Suitcase 3  so it's been around for a while.

the 2016 one... which I am under the impression was universally loved. I did not know about Milano
Milano was a joint album with some Italianish dude and some cameos (Karen o). Up and down, but decent.

I liked Human Performance, but not as much as their previous stuff which I was cookoo about.

Omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomg IDLES playing in Brooklyn next weekend. Who's with me?
Omg!  Have you even had the proper immunizations required to enter Brooklyn?

And $12 per ticket?  Who do they think I am? A Rockefeller?

PRhyme is a rap superduo with Royce da 5'9" and DJ Premier.  That's probably all you need to know other than they have a new album called PRhyme 2.

Something called U.S. Girls (a solo act I think) with a new album I thought sounded pretty good, fresh/hip with a lot of influences, that kind of thing

Spotify Release Friday options that look interesting:

yo La Tengo album is out!

See Jorge

Raveonettes

Districts

Sloan

Prism Tats

Can Shaker Pi

Naked Giants

The rest, I either don't remember it are new to me.

Prhyme2 is pretty good. Love the song "Flirt" as it uses the call and response of Camp Lo's "Luchini (AKA This Is It)" which I think I took in Genrepalooza.
