I like Iceage's new record "Beyondless".  The band has stretched out their sound a lot since their debut but never loose sight of their punk roots.  This is due in large part to singer Elias Ronnenfelt's off kilter howling.

Your enjoyment of the band will probably depend on whether you love or hate Ronnenfelt but I think this and his other band Marching Church are both worth checking out.

Spot on. I have to be in exactly the right mood to handle his non-key moaning... but musically I really like the rest of it, so its more often than not. (Makes no age sound like operatic perfectionists) And the new album feels a little more withdrawn on his part- been liking it (although not as much as no age).

Yeah, the new Iceage is really good.

New Jon Hopkins quietly showed up on Spotify today; that was my most anticipated upcoming album. It's good, but not on par with 2013's Immunity (which I loved) -- this is a little lighter and there's not much to really sink your teeth into. Rival Consoles' album this year gives me that Immunity feel better than this one does.

I’m not a hip hop guy but I’ve watched this three or four times today. Captivating imo.

It's a cool video and the song doesn't totally suck, but I miss the days when rappers used to actually write rhymes instead of just saying a few words that kind of rhyme over and over. I guess I'm old now.

I like this one. Politically charged, pulls no punches: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-yRSfmKktU

New Dirty Projectors single has a David Byrne Vampire Weekend vibe in a good way.
I liked the new single too and I seem to recall liking other stuff by Dirty Projectors but nowadays a lot of these band names run together. I checked out last year's self titled album while working today... Jeez what a depressing annoying album.

I don't think I've mentioned them here yet because they don't have an album out yet (it's out May 4) but I absolutely love Middle Kids. Trio from Australia, female lead singer, her husband is the guitarist. I can see them pretty easily crossing over and getting a huge mainstream following as well.

Mistake

Edge of Town
This is out today.
Middle Kids have a knack for some spectacularly hooky choruses

Their single, Rise Above (black flag cover) is one of my favorite tunes... But it's from more than ten years ago.

Wait.  Your kid performs on the album and you didn't get an early leak--WTF?

I've loved what I've heard so far--looking forward to hearing the rest.
We were promised copies of the cd and their inclusion in the liner notes...but he smelled a bit...drunk...at the 9am, sat recording slot, so who knows.

I'll post a video or two of the recording after the official release- drunk or not, Austin was great with the kids.

ETA... Damn. Was just thinking I'd ask the PQ friend and part timer who works at school of Rock about the CD. but just found out he's in Europe on tour with David West...who sounds familiar but I'll need to spotify to remember.

ok... so with the unofficial leak, I'll post these here. it's taken on the other side of a sound studio, so the sound is low... sorry- to hear much of anything you have to turn it up like freedom rock.

Austin running through the song for the kids. kids very timid and shy.

A little directing, kids warming up but still a bit shy.

What I think was the final take.

looking back over these and others I recorded- Austin was genuinely awesome with the kids. patient, supportive and also teaching along the way. and I dig the song.

Scott is getting his rock out on this album.  I like it.

Not as good as the best Frightened Rabbit, but well worth hearing.
Scott Hutchison has been reported missing in Scotland. His last tweet said "I'm away now" and he left his hotel room at 1 AM.

The band tweeted that they're worried about the state he might be in.

Hopefully this turns out okay.

Absolutely loving the new Iceage album. It feels like Stooges meet Jonathan Richman with the Brian Jonestown Massacre stopping by to visit occasionally. Or something. Anyway it rocks.

New Arctic Monkeys tomorrow. They are one of the headliners at my annual festival Firefly so fingers crossed.

#### #### #### ####. This is probably the artist's death that's hit me the hardest and I think it's because even though he sang about depression and doubt and drinking, he always found hope.

"There is light but there's a tunnel to crawl through
There is love but it's misery loves you
There's still hope so i think we'll be fine
In these disastrous times

I wonder how close to the truth a song like Modern Leper was for him. Such brutal self loathing. Depression sucks. RIP.

I don't really care to know the details of his death but the hotel he left was right in the area of the Forth bridge and I don't know if I can ever listen to Floating in the Forth again.

This one hits me hard too, NV. I had a feeling this was going to turn out this way.

I’ve been listening to FR pretty much nonstop since Wednesday. So many of his songs foretold this. So ####### sad.

Since this is FootballGuys, Arien Foster's new mixtape is pretty decent.   It's not RB1 worthy but is strong enough for a Flex position or a bye week fill-in.

Got It

Gawd
