Best albums of 2018 - playlists in post #1 (1 Viewer)

I like the new Ghost Mice record... I never would have pictured my self as a folk punk guy.  Go figure.

Not much out today for me unless I’m missing stuff but I’m probably just going to bask in this Appetite for Destruction deluxe edition. Top few guitar tone albums ever for me.

I can tell summer vacation has started... my spotify algorithm has been corrupted with Demi Lovato, Simple Minds, Bastille, One Republic, etc from the kids jumping on it.

after last, which was pretty solid- this week sucks.

new Death Grips album is out, if they turn your crank at all.

Lol at the Shaqiri av. He’s a hobbit.

New Jedi Mind Tricks this week.   :pickle:

Also, in the Best albums of 1985 thread, I don't know when but at some point Bauhaus' 1979-1983 double album caught a remaster.  Been bumping that in my car all week.

That's me, the misunderstood 45YO corporate goth.

Haven't listened to anything new in a while. Interpol came up in a shuffle and I finally realized who that dude sounds like. Probably not a revelation to others, but I always just bought into the Ian Curtis/Joy Division comparison but he is really doing more of a Richard Butler thing, right? They'd nail a Furs cover. Still patiently waiting for the new Spiritualized.

aussies are doing the guitarey garagey fun post-punk rock revival really well. I've mentioned these new south whales... just stumbled on West Thebarton who have what appears to be their first album out- Different Beings Being Different. I'm midway through and every song has been good, with some elevating to better that that.

Listening to the back half now... Not as good. But still a bunch of stuff worth listening to in the first bunch if songs.

More Aussie... Cable Ties... 3 piece punk/metal/post. Also good.
similar vein... Power, also with a new album. outside of brooklyn, this region has been a genuine gold-mine of stuff I like.

new Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark single is a real departure
That was 2nd song on my RR this week... right after Squeeze which I thought was a departure.

Oldies week for me with those two, Iggy Pop, James and Paul McCartney.  Serves me right for making playlists going back to '68 (so far)

This version of OMD was 1st, and I had that Iggy tune too.

btw- I just realized... when savage sings for parquet courts, it always looks like he's throwing, or about to throw, a tantrum. part of what I love/hate about him.

Jellies by 77:78 is really hitting the spot right now.

Great summery, psych-rock album from former Bees bandmates Aaron Fletcher and Tim Parkin.

Hi I'm new here.  Why are there various Spotify playlists?  Is there one with just the good stuff?

I think some people on here will like "Death Lust" by Canadian band Chastity more than I do.   And I think it's pretty decent.

It starts off promisingly enough with a thick wall of guitars on grungy opener "Children" and touches a number of other 90s-ish bases: punk, industrial, shoegaze and even a bit of nu metal.  I think they run out of ideas on side two but the guitars still sound great.

New Dollar Signs out today.... I am a sucker for crap like this.  It's got a bit of a Jeff Rosenstock vibe going on, and they describe themselves as "student loan-core" - nice.

A new Wild Pink album is out today. Their debut from last year was #1 in my NV year end countdown.  Surprised they already have another ready to release.  Looking forward to hearing it.

spotied things that look promising...

singles: jacuzzi boys, we were promised jetpacks

albums: pist idiots (ep), ovlov, dirty projectors

The new record by The Internet sounds good on first spin.  It's a bit slicker than the group's previous albums or the solo albums released by members in the interim.

I assume we're going to have a band called TV on the internet soon
