Best albums of 2018 - playlists in post #1 (1 Viewer)

Wow. I really need to listen to this, then. What am I missing?
I just think it’s rife with hooks. I was resistant because I thought I loved about this band was compromised with all of the different #### on here. I almost wish they put the album out under a pseudonym.

Gonna try to go back in if I can get Kendrick Lamar out of my head; sounds like the water's warm.

avg age of 13 and a half.

I'm going home and kicking floppinho's ### for being such a slacker.
Did we ever talk about Calpurnia in here? They're a Canadian (Vancouver) band with 15 year old Finn Wolfhard (from Stranger Things and more importantly the PUP videos) as lead singer.

Their first song was City Boy, and I swear if they didn't have that sweet Stranger Things buzz, they would have fallen off the face of the earth instantly. Maybe it's just me, I think that song is... bad.

Anyway, their newer one, Greyhound is admittedly, maybe pretty good, so now I don't really know where I stand.

This post is going to lead me to listen to every PUP song tonight (it only takes like an hour). No regrets.

That PUP post reminded me that I am currently in love with Dollar Signs latest "This Will Haunt Me"...

Check out Shallow Pop Songs to get a feel for it...  ? I'm the Usain Bolt of running from my problems ?

Greta Van Fleet has been rolling out individual songs from their new album the last few days. Lover, Leaver has already gotten me hooked.

Seems like a bad week for releases. Cloud Nothings. I’ll check out the Arkells. Are they like the Menzingers?
:goodposting:

that cloud nothings hopefully makes up for it.

I can always tell looking through the RR how things are going to roll- Ive got Queen, Beatles, Bastille, ####### Coldplay all lined up.

but there's also the weekly new ty seagull, and new stuff by: paul jabcob, the outs, bill baird, peaking lights... so hopefully there are gems in there too.

Diane Coffee sounds .. different

ASG covering "Mother" on that Wall Redux thing

Bad Religion back, Ty Segall getting political

My release radar started of HOT this week with Direct Hit! Ty Segall, Antarctigo Vespucci, & Sick Of It All as the first 4.

agree about with nigel about cloud nothings- good stuff, angry. nothing completely jumped out at me as a killer tune, but it was pretty consistent and good top to bottom.

I enjoyed the two bolded- Paul Jacob, and Bill Baird- quite a bit. will be revisiting both.

I like Queen and the Beatles and all... but I really don't need to hear their tunes any more, unless the itch needs to be scratched. and certainly not on my 'hot-new-releases" playlist from spotify.

New Jeff the Brotherhood is out and supposed to be good. I think I’ll listen to it.
I never really got into them before but I am gonna give these Jeffs another chance.

btw, I still legit LOL when I think about this band b/c of @Good Posting Judge's exchange with someone on hoof like 10 years ago.  Maybe @Nigel Tufnel.

whoever the other person was:  "I don't like this band.  a 'Jeff' broke my heart a long time ago"
GPJ:  "Maybe a different Jeff can mend it :villagepeoplesmiley:"

Sorry for the hippling here.  I get behind on this thread and then if I don't have time to catch up I put it off, and rinse/repeat, and it seems like I'm only really up to date every three months in here.

Ahrnblogtoself:   Here's a list of stuff (new this year, or stuff mentioned that I previously missed) I've collected in here that I need to make time for:

failure 4 EPs thing
Mastersystem

City Calm Down Echoes In Blue
No Age Snares Like a Haircut
Oh Sees - smote reverser
WRONG - feel great

And of note for the best albums of 1994:

Fiddles and I saw WEEN last night.   Venue oversold tickets and it was ####ed up, but still fun.   Also, the hippes have taken over.  this is why we can't have brown things.

Dean Weens album is decent this year. A bit jersey bar bandy for me, but solid.

Pitchfork destroyed Greta Van Fleet today. I don't really disagree with it, but it's harsh. I saw them described elsewhere as "music for people who say 'no one makes real music anymore', even though they themselves are a novelty/costume band"... and again, harsh but can't disagree.

Listened to the (relatively new) J. Cole's trap-influenced record, KOD, and to PRhyme 2

Loved J. Cole. Don't know why, but I like him and don't listen to him enough.

Liked PRhyme, which took a bit. It's sort of experimental.

Also listened to Royce Da 5'9" s Book Of Ryan, which I also really liked.

Three good hip hop records.

It was funny, but at the same time, they would never, ever, ever, ever write something like this about Radiohead, even if Radiohead put out something incredibly terrible.

Reflektor got a 9.2. Come the #### on.

They also gave a new Yoko Ono album a 6.2, which, from the few songs I've heard, is about 6.0 too high. And I know everyone ####s on her, but try to take this seriously:

They try. So damn hard. You can hear the effort coming out of the criticism. It would be endearing if it wasn't so sneering, I guess.

Pitchfork still exists?  ?

GVF is pretty terrible, it's not the sound, it's the godawful songs

Sorry you can't be Zeppelin.  Black artists have lawyers now anyway  :ptts:

Pitchfork always rides the hip wave, that's their thing, they gave GNR's greatest hits 1 star when they thought it was cool to do so  (looks like they deleted this in the years since).  Now we know where Greta stands.  I appreciated the decent Adele cover.

Kids.... run to Spotify now and fall in love with Teen Judge

Band includes John Kimbrough of Walt Mink and Valley Lodge fame on guitar and Tim Lefebve from Tedeschi Trucks Band on bass.

Kingdom Come did a better job of aping LZ than Greta van Fleet does.
