DR★ Music Draft reopened: make any outstanding picks and let's talk about the next draft (1 Viewer)

it's not a music editing software... although you might have some control over length of fade in/out between songs.

also the only program I've used for music this decade. has completely rejuvenated my musical awareness....  spotify with all the bubbly hearts and kittens in socks just hangin' around possible.
Thanks, El Floppo. I just thought maybe...

Fair use needs to catch up with fair use. I think the 3rd Circuit Court changed music forever.

We'll get no more Paul's Boutique, and that's a shame, though droit du moral...

I thought 8 secs from songs were fair game... no?

eta: that's a number that I remember from around the Paul's Boutique days... I think it was de la soul who got sued in a big public way?

Nope. Nothing is fair game. You can get sued for a snippet of a sound recording plus the underlying composition under copyright law. I'd actually ask Henry Ford or RHE for a better explanation. Three seconds isn't even fair game anymore or music would sound totally different these days.

6.7 -Marvin Gaye- Other Instrument (tambourine)

I read he was a percussionist on all the Marvelettes records so I'll go with "Dancin in the Streets"

there he goes.

I've been wanting to draft him since (and including) the 1st round, but have clearly gone a different and scottish direction.

you could take him for song-writing too... just amazing all the way around.

i like the dodge. thank you for resolving a dilemma for me - i was going to have to make an Elvis pick of Mahvelous Mahvin, evne tho he doesn't fit my ensemble. i have him ahead of Otis, Prince, two draft-eligs and actually all but Stevie R&B wise, because there's more than soul there.

No lead for him in my band.  I'm paying him to wave that tamborine and GDMIT, that's what he will do!

Of course he will sing.

Clarence Clemons also qualifies on Tamborine fwiw.

Betty from The Archies is still alive and managing a nail salon in Riverdale.

She'd be a top tier tambourine player if deceased.

That girl from Eddie and the Crusiers would be up there if she wasn't an actress....and not alive.

i managed her (Helen Schneider) in a band called Cricket Hill backinaday. Got her her 1st contract offer - from ABC Windsong (John Denver's vanity label, Dan Fogelberg etc) - which she turned down because they wouldnt take the band (her bf to this day was her piano player). Her turning the contract down actually ended up breaking up the band w jealousies, oddly enough, and she went back to ABC and i never got a penny. Her 1st record had most of Letterman/Shafer's original World's Most Dangerous Band on it. She was opening for Don Rickles - she could do hardass blues AND total MOR #### - when she got Eddie. Years later, i had lost track and was watching MTV when a totally lame Eurotrash band video came on and i said "ain't that.......?!?!" and the li'l corner credit said Schneider & the Kick, so that was that. She's been based in Germany for decades now, tho still has a house on the Island (she and her best gal pal ran away from HS with their pervy music teacher - the aforementioned piano player - and all were in Cricket Hill) and has been a cabaret singer and one of the world's leading interpreters of Brecht/Weill for a long time now. quite a career.

ETA: Cricket Hill's the band that opened for Chambers Bros & Maaaatha Reeves in my "partying w the Stones" story

not at all. the "which one doesnt fit?" questions, i meant
Yeah I actually thought of that but was going to phrase it as "one of these things is not like the other".

I had mentioned if I knew we were trying to form a band that worked together I likely would have went in another direction with my first pick - but the good thing is the Thin White Duke was a chameleon and he'd find a way to fit in with the jam band.

I may be wrong, but I can't seem to find a version of The Marvelettes singing 'Dancin' in the Streets." I looked thru their catalog and can't seem to find that song.

Can you point it out or choose another?
