DR★ Music Draft reopened: make any outstanding picks and let's talk about the next draft (1 Viewer)

I'm just gonna pick.  I don't expect anyone was going here now.

I want as my rapper - Nate Dogg -song Regulate.  I wanted a rapper who could sing backup in my band and this kid had a golden voice.  Hugely underrated imo.

The draft order has died of natural causes after a brief illness.

Anybody who hasn't made a round #7 pick yet can post it now.  Any makeup picks are also fair game.

Round #8 picks can be made any time after sunrise on Saturday.

Round #9-11 picks will happen Mon-Wed

7.08 Frank Zappa - guitar (moving LGeorge to vocals) Willie the Pimp

Awwww, MAAAAN, i just love my band now! Carl Sagan could be my rapper & i'd just flat own ally'all. I was taking Zappa in the 4th but Elvis on the board disrupted that and then i just HAD to have Lowell & BJWilson and thought he'd be llllllllllllong gone by the 7th, esp w Lowell (a former Mother) maybe trippin some memories. Then i remembered that none of y'all work likat.

Maybe the smartest guy to ever make rock music & easily the funniest. Can't wait til Jaco wants to cut him for a sarcastic aside. LET'S PLAY, BOYS!!!!

Harry Nillson Piano Jump Into the Fire

Love me some Harry. I reckon he might collaborate a little with Kurt, as well

ETA the above song used in Goodfellas is my favorite extended scene in my favorite movie ever.

Can we do sundown tonight for round #8 so it coincides with Yom Kippur?

Great pick. My two favorite musical obscenity stories:

1) Walking the beach in Dun Laoghaire, Eire, summer of '69 w my cousin Tom, who was carrying the cartridge 45rpm-single player (the 8-track of vinyl) he got for graduation (they grad after sophomore yr there) which was playing the brand-new "Ballad of John & Yoko". Nuns in full habit were as common as shells on Irish beaches then and Tom had the poor fortune to pass a passel of em while Lennon screeched "Christ, you know it aint easy!" They descended upon him like Holy Crows and literally beat him down with their beads. There was blood, honest.

2) When i came back to my home town after a yr & a half as a runaway, i had a LOT of street cred, esp w chicks. This one girl sauntered up to me in a parking lot in that way makes you know you got this already and tells me she had a dream about me (the most "you got this" thing she could say). She proceeded to recount the dream, in which she was walking down a street and passed by me as i was snatching people off the street and throwing them into a cannibal pot and i went after her but couldnt touch her cuz she was wearing a white coat. Well, still being as much altar boy as hippie runaway in those days, i was a bit taken aback, but accepted her offer to come over & listen to records. Nilsson had a new song out with the "f" word in it, so i figured that was a good bring. We playin this & that, i put that song on and just as "You're breaking my heart, youre tearing it apart so #### YOU!" comes on, her mother busts thru the door, yelling how dare she have that boy over. Apparently Robin didnt like me much, but hated her mom more and invited me over as soon as Mom forbade her to. Played me part, i guess

7. ...... ODB ye' olden days ******* of dirt. .. rappy (leaving somebody else to take the obvious top choice here)

leaving cream here from wu tang clan because it's my 1b to guru's lifesaver 1a, but tbh I don't know that he even rapped on it. will check and come back with another tune if not.

I would have taken him over your "obvious first choice " fwiw.   So overrated...

7.06 - Jack Bruce - Bassist - Song Tk

Why did i think he was still alive? i even joked about him & Ginger having a duel in this thread. outSTANDing steal.

maybe the 2nd smartest guy ever to make rock&roll. his solo album Harmony Row is the best record you've never heard. i saw him tour in support of it, he opened w some Cream songs, stuff from his 1st solo album, then did his new album. For the encore, he did his new album again, with complete alternate melodies for each song. immense!

I'll be happy with one-a-days when they come, but I loved the order. Great drafting with y'all so far!

(I just feel the order is more conducive to discussion, and I'll miss that...already)

And I'm typing to keep this on the front page, FFApper that I am...

I'm definitely on autoskip. Too difficult to keep up with during the day.

Found my 3rd singer. My what a voice. I have not made up my mind on the song but I want to get my dibs on.

7.3 - Etta James, singer. Will link a song later.

I was waiting for Zappa to go. I thought of him last night. What a towering figure. Reprise Bizarre was a neat little artist's' boutique label, that's for sure.

7.06 - Jack Bruce - Bassist - Early In The Morning/Song TK

I was thinkinig I'm So Glad but don't care too much either way. This song might fit better with the group. I just love how "I'm So Glad" starts out sounding really happy and by the end, that refrain has been repeated so much that it can only be the mantra of a truley miserable deranged person. It's the "Serentity Now" of rock songs. Also it really grooves man. Thanks again Rock for picking up my slack. These darn kids just don't understand that I have other things to do besides teaching them.

The Wikipedia page of the dead credited Linda as "Paul McCartney's wife" rather than "member of Wings"
David Foster Wallace, in Infinite Jest, has a passage where a drug addict is caught stealing from his "employer" As punishment before his death, he's condemned to listen to Linda McCartney through a vocal stripping machine in both ears from the band.

Not making that up; that was really in the book.

I'll change it, my friend.

Still not as bad as the same treatment for John & Yoko songs.

Hipple bait, pure'n'simple.

I think you found a loophole.
I think the most awkward moment I've had in years was sitting in a Starbucks (yes, I know) and they were pimping his new CD, Kisses on the Bottom. I started laughing at it, looked up at the cute register woman and kept laughing while grabbing the CD.

She actually laughed genuinely, too.  Kisses on the Bottom?
