Genrepalooza 3: Playlists are done, phwew (2 Viewers)

About time to get all devy draft / Vladito up in here!

Released just last week. I heard it for the first time on Tuesday and have queued it up about 40 times since. It’s infectious - harder and less shoegazy than their last two albums, but every bit as musically quirky. Get’cha some.

Genre: Dream Pop

2.16 - Silversun Pickups - It Doesn’t Matter Why (2019)

We make round three picks Saturday, right?  I'm willing to give it a few minutes and then select, or I can wait until Sat.

You can skip me for now. I'll chime in when I've winnowed the vast greatness in the punk/emo/screamo/etc. genre down. Watching the game. @sn0mm1s

Funny.. I heard this just the other day and said to the lady friend holy cow I didn't think these guys had any more good songs in them

Genre - Punk

Song - Modern Kicks

Band - Exploding Hearts

Before a tragic van accident took three of the members' lives on their way back from a show, the Exploding Hearts were probably the band with the potential to be one of the biggest true pop-punk/glam/trash bands on the planet. With a knack for songwriting and hooks, along with a critical eye and ear way beyond their years, their brief time was marked by greatness like this. Glad to be leading off the punk element of the mix with them. They deserve it. R.I.P.

eta* Pitchfork commemorates the Hearts and reviews their two albums, Guitar Romantic and Shattered, here and here, respectively.

eta2* Sadly, I have to throw this one back because I missed that it was Round Four for punk and old fart.

Old fart stuff.. Wang Chung from 1997.. this song crushes, not sure if I originally heard of it here or what
When they were big, I considered Wang Chung a joke band, a couple of chumps.  But I was wrong.  In retrospect, they were solid and sharp edged synthpop

Their soundtrack for To Live and Die in LA fits the movie like a glove.  It sets the time and place as effectively as the boxy 80s cop cars.

I hate to be that commissioner but we're drafting rock and old farts in round 3.  Punk (and more old farts) is round 4 on Monday.

You can always switch your home category back to punk

Oh wow. I missed that. Sorry. No, no need to switch back. That's fine. I'm fine with picking again, actually. Just skip me for a moment...
