Pile onLooks like I am behind a few picks. I am loving the female mix, so I am just going to be selfish and pile on a couple more songs there:
ROUND 18
GENRE: FEMALE (HOME)
SONG: SWEARIN' - GROW INTO A GHOST
I saw these guys play while I was standing outdoors in an actual alleyway/truckloading garage in November '17 in Salt Lake City. It was snowing. Excellent show. And this is their best song. Love this version too. These guys are often referred to as Alt-Country or Post-Country, also indie, emo, alternative, 4th wave emo, etc... this song maybe actually is all those things in parts but mostly country and completely ####### great.
It's not so much exactly all the words I used—
it's more that I was somehow down to let them loose.
Round 21 - Aphasia - Pinegrove - Country
Never heard that but I like the band and the song and the message. AwesomeI thought about taking them in the punk/metal category, but remembered they did this cover, so I held off in case that got rolled again..
ROUND 20
GENRE = COVERS
SONG = DEFTONE - SIMPLE MAN
Wa hoping they would get draftedNot digging too deep here, but something should be taken from this band too.
ROUND 21
GENRE = ROCK
SONG = THE HOLD STEADY - STUCK BETWEEN STATIONS
I really like the Growlers . I almost selected them in place of Lazaretto.Ilov80s said:
Very nice. I wasn’t sure if they had a following here. Lazaretto is great as we’ve discussed!I really like the Growlers . I almost selected them in place of Lazaretto.

ROUND 18

SONG: SWEARIN' - GROW INTO A GHOST
I like her boots!I am way off recently- really been jamming on a lot of Nancy Sinatra
Her and Lee Hazlewood are incredibleI like her boots!
So luv!
Oh yeah Frank is one of my favorite crooners and actorsSo luv!
I am huge - huge fan of her pop, Frank, as well.
Yeah lolI think you mean Lee Hazlewood. He wrote most of her hits. He is a favorite of mine, and actually eligible for this draft.......
I
Francis Albert wouldn't be impressed by GreenwoodLee Greenwood lol
Just really great.I thought about taking them in the punk/metal category, but remembered they did this cover, so I held off in case that got rolled again..
ROUND 20
GENRE = COVERS
SONG = DEFTONES - SIMPLE MAN
I don't think he was much of a Hazlewood fan either.Francis Albert wouldn't be impressed by Greenwood
Frankie was married to a 21 year old at the timeI don't think he was much of a Hazlewood fan either.
This song, Alex, Honey Bunny....good stuff. This was one of my favorite albums of 2011.Round 21 - Girls - Vomit (Rock)
I think Girls are the best Bay Area rock band of this century but like a lot of recent bands, they called it quits after a couple of albums. I tried to love Christopher Owens' solo stuff but I can't remember much about them now.
Girls' first album generated some buzz but I always liked their final record Father, Son, Holy Ghost better. It had more of a classic rock vibe, especially on this power ballad that goes for the big power ballad finish. Sorry, it's six and half minutes but it's the song that's always stuck with me![]()
Forgiveness could be trimmed by a minute or four thoughThis song, Alex, Honey Bunny....good stuff. This was one of my favorite albums of 2011.
1st of all, I like longer tracks - so that's never a problem with me.Round 21 - Girls - Vomit (Rock)

A lovely song that really deserved its Oscar."Glory"
(with Common)
(from "Selma" soundtrack)
[John Legend:]
One day when the glory comes
It will be ours, it will be ours
One day when the war is won
We will be sure, we will be sure
Oh glory
[Common:]
Hands to the Heavens, no man, no weapon
Formed against, yes glory is destined
Every day women and men become legends
Sins that go against our skin become blessings
The movement is a rhythm to us
Freedom is like religion to us
Justice is juxtapositionin' us
Justice for all just ain't specific enough
One son died, his spirit is revisitin' us
True and livin' livin' in us, resistance is us
That's why Rosa sat on the bus
That's why we walk through Ferguson with our hands up
When it go down we woman and man up
They say, "Stay down", and we stand up
Shots, we on the ground, the camera panned up
King pointed to the mountain top and we ran up
[John Legend:]
One day when the glory comes
It will be ours, it will be ours
One day when the war is won
We will be sure, we will be sure
Oh glory
Now the war is not over, victory isn't won
And we'll fight on to the finish, then when it's all done
We'll cry glory, oh glory
We'll cry glory, oh glory
[Common:]
Selma is now for every man, woman and child
Even Jesus got his crown in front of a crowd
They marched with the torch, we gon' run with it now
Never look back, we done gone hundreds of miles
From dark roads he rose, to become a hero
Facin' the league of justice, his power was the people
Enemy is lethal, a king became regal
Saw the face of Jim Crow under a bald eagle
The biggest weapon is to stay peaceful
We sing, our music is the cuts that we bleed through
Somewhere in the dream we had an epiphany
Now we right the wrongs in history
No one can win the war individually
It takes the wisdom of the elders and young people's energy
Welcome to the story we call victory
The comin' of the Lord, my eyes have seen the glory
[John Legend:]
One day when the glory comes
It will be ours, it will be ours
One day when the war is won
We will be sure, we will be sure
Oh glory
[John Legend:]
When the war is won, when it's all said and done
We'll cry glory, oh glory
Round 20 - Glory - Common (with John Legend) - None of the Above (2015)
A lovely song that really deserved its Oscar.
Nice finish!Another late night pick, this time there's no excuse other than boredom. Well, and more commitments tomorrow.
I should end this with my handle's namesake or my home category, but I'm going with this to add to the mix. It might be out of left field, but what the hell. God, could I ever tell stories about this song and what happened during its popularity, but I'll refrain. I'm bringing 'Looza back.
Round 22.xx
Genre - Dance or Pop (I'm going Dance)
Artist - Justin Timberlake ft. Timbaland
Song - SexyBack
I'm bringin' sexy back (yeah)
Them other boys don't know how to act (yeah)
I think it's special, what's behind your back (yeah)
So turn around and I'll pick up the slack (yeah)
Go 'head, be gone with it
Cayetana cut a mid-tempo second album and then broke up. Sad end to a slightly ephemeral band from Philly.
Don't forget to smile...Bonus track (2014)
Only 10 songs in the Country playlist so I'll add one. This one song I can tolerate from my wife's favorite country artist, Gary Allan. I've seen him in concert at least 4 times in the early to mid 2000s and he always put on a great show. Did an awesome cover of a Petty song - I'll try to find it.
My other proposal with the continuation is that from 9 PM Eastern every night, the theme is "There is a Spotlight That Never Goes Out"Momentum waining in here for sure but if I keep posting post-2000 categories in here, will people keep drafting? i.e. even though Eephus says it ends Thursday, if I post on Thursday night saying the Friday categories and Radiohead and glitch-pop, can we keep it going?
My idea would be no dice, :( and one off, one time only categories that are much more narrower (sometimes specific artists or semi-obscure genres).
Basically just an excuse to keep the thread going and if people who skipped over the draft want to jump in for these one off rounds, the more the merrier.
Thoughts?
