It was a tremendous raid. (3 Viewers)

@General Malaise

BTW, props on the usage of mountebank. I only know the word because it was a Dominion card lol.
Wasn’t familiar with the word, but based on my cursory knowledge of romance languages, I’m guessing the origin is traced back to “con man standing on a bench selling snake oil” or someone of that ilk.
Pretty much. Well done.

I think it's most specific original is somebody selling patent medicine in public.
Tracks to that person standing on a park bench or street bench barking his sales pitch to passersby.

I’m with SWC that “charlatan” has a better ring to it. But I’m supportive of “mountebank with his Montblanc” getting worked into a diss track.

Developing headline on Drudge right now reads

”My Pillow guy claims phone seized at Hardees”

Top 10 headline this year 🤣
I'll believe it when the authorities confirm. Lindell's behavior, no doubt from years of heavy drug abuse, has been unhinged to say the least. It wouldn't surprise me if he was making it up like when he claimed to be attacked. I can't imagine anyone in Trump's inner circle involving him in their plans to overthrow the country.

“I think if it happened, I think you’d have problems in this country the likes of which perhaps we’ve never seen before. I don’t think the people of the United States would stand for it.”

I'm willing to find out. :coffee:

I detest a million things about this mountebank, but hyperbole like this just rankles me in particular. We had a little thing here called "THE CIVIL WAR" which was horrendous. 5 years of our country torn apart at the seams. Americans killing Americans. Six hundred thousand soldiers dead. And this circus barker thinks we've never seen the magnitude of problems here his arrest will usher in? Nonsense. He speaks like nobody here has access to a history book.
Doesn't crack my top 3:

1. Errant capitalization in tweets;
2. Cheating at golf;
3. Not paying people for their services (extra disdain for him ripping off his lawyers).
Where does stealing from a cancer charity rank?
Guys, I was being somewhat facetious in that I was pointing out the more trivial things that I find incredibly annoying/distasteful/grinds my gears.

If we're being serious then my number one would be him getting elected president following by the inciting a riot, baselessly claiming Democrats cheated, stealing from charities, possibly withholding top secret documents, etc.

Serious business

You golfers REALLY do take cheating seriously, tho. Be fair. Rick Riley called him the biggest cheat he's ever seen.

There once was a mountebank named Trump
Whose general physique was quite plump
A Montblanc pen he'd use
To sign off on his ruse
A classic con by Don, king of the pump and dump

Lindell hired Alan Dershowitz, who claims he will sue the Department of Justice.

Remember when Dershowitz was a respected lawyer? He's become a cartoon.

I agree. Not sure why you quoted me. I was only questioning the pillow fella's claim about the FBI seizing his phone. When I first read it, sounded like a cry for attention from his BFF Trump because I didn't realize , but was immediately informed here, just how close he was to FPOTUS.

writers getting lazy
Well, he can't hire Powell or Giuliani because they're co-defendants in the Dominion cases, plus Giuliani got disbarred in DC and Powell is probably getting disbarred. Team Trump is running out of lawyers. But yeah, some new characters would be nice.

Oh, we do. Same with etiquette and vanity. Which is why him driving on a green and carrying a lower handicap than Jack Nicklaus is so damn telling.

Mostly due to the fact that they are unlikely to be paid for their work.

So Raymond Dearie is special master. Trump team pick, but without objection from the DOJ. Hard to see how he's an advantage for either side.

"If you asked both prosecutors and lawyers, they would say the same thing, that he is just so fair," Weissmann said. "It's unusual to have a judge where both sides just have enormous praise for somebody."

This reminds me of what people said about Robert Mueller when he was appointed.
Right. Am I in the minority that thought that Mueller did the job he was appointed to do?

I'm struggling with the quote feature here, especially on mobile. :bag:

Also - this is maddening - if I type a new paragraph and make a typo, then hit "Backspace", the paragraph spacing goes away. Anybody else? Who do I send the trouble ticket to?

I don't trust many 78 year olds to be razor sharp. Will he be allowed assistants (administrative or legal)?
I've been in front of judges in their 70s that ran/run intellectual circles around me.
I hear that, but they may have lapped you 3x when they were 30 years younger.

{STOP BACKSPACE FROM ERASING PARAGRAPH BREAKS NOW}

There used to be a 'clear editor' link or some such on the old system that would clean up the reply box. That's not here.

happens to me all the time. Any pause in my typing causes this. I posted this issue in a thread on the new board when it relaunched and heard nothing.

If 2022 Hulk time travelled 20 years back to talk to 2002 Hulk, 2002 Hulk would think 2022 Hulk is just being a jerk and making up nonsense.
This is the plot of the next Avengers movie
If I could go back 20 yrs to talk to younger dkp the last thing I’d be talking about is politics. Investing in google, apple or telsa would be the hot topics.
I was thinking of trying to convince young Hulk to buy Bitcoin when it's just pennies. Young Hulk would be like, "So, this digital currency, you can't really spend it anywhere except in black markets or on nonfungible links to digital art that anyone can copy, and people burn tons of fossil fuels to "mine" it. So, it basically has no utility, negative real world impacts, and it becomes worth tens of thousands of dollars instead of pennies? Whatever Future Hulk, stop lying to me."
"Now hear me out here, but what if I told you that just regular old strangers pretended to become taxis in their own cars..."
jitneys. been around for over 100 years.

If Trump's team suggested him I'm dubious.
Considering their other nominee had horrible conflicts, they were trying to get them to accept him. There has to be a reason. He was involved in the Carter Page FISA approval, so I’m guessing if they don’t like the ruling they will claim he is biased against Trump, appeal and delay.

Did they nominate Mr. Snrub?

Wow, I didn't realize that Trump's lawyers argued in court that Trump could in fact murder people without repercussion.

Lindsey Graham said Trump could 'kill 50' members of the GOP and 'it wouldn't matter': book

Years later, his lawyers defended that remark, saying in a court hearing that he could not be investigated or criminally prosecuted if he did in fact shoot someone in the middle of Fifth Avenue.

"At the time, Judge Denny Chin pressed Trump lawyer William Consovoy on the limits of presidential immunity, referencing Trump's remarks about shooting someone.

"Nothing can be done, that's your position?" Chin asked Consovoy, Insider's Sonam Sheth reported.

"That is correct, that is correct," Consovoy replied."

The admiration of DJT by about 30 -35% is historical in the sense that he is likely the most despicable person to have that amount of admiration in US history.

Trying to think of others. These came to mind:

1. Columbus
2. Pete Rose
3. Michael Jackson
4. Roman Polansky
5. Alfred Hitchcock

Debatable:
1. Robert E. Lee (I think it is hard to post-judge him now, but obviously what he did was pretty objectively bad)
2. Joseph McCarthy (Did he maintain his admiration?)
3. John Wayne (seems still beloved when he was really, really terrible to people - mostly women)
5. Mother Theresa (maybe not truly despicable so doesn't qualify, but definitively overrated)
6. Walt Disney (racist and misognystic)
7. Elvis (hebephile)

Agreed that Trump is truly fascinating because a good percentage of people seem to view him as some savior or greater than human when he is very, very clearly human with human flaws.

Trump attorneys don't want to disclose which Mar-a-Lago documents he claims to have declassified

Donald Trump’s attorneys said in a filing Monday night that they don’t want to disclose to a court-appointed special master which Mar-a-Lago documents they assert the former president may or may not have declassified.
In a four-page letter to the special master, Trump's attorneys pushed back against Senior U.S. District Judge Raymond Dearie's apparent proposal that they submit “specific information regarding declassification” to him in the course of his review.
Dearie issued an order Friday summoning both parties to the federal courthouse in Brooklyn, New York, for a preliminary conference Tuesday.

I would add Ted Kennedy as he pretty much did.
