Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (1 Viewer)

This is. My happy house. My pick that's sampled Siouxsie Sue. So I can pretend. But it's somehow better than So What even without an e. Win.

The Weeknd- House of Balloons (2011) #488.

Aaliyah- Are You That Somebody (1998) #238

I listened almost all the way through hoping to hear a chorus or anything else that would take the song somewhere other than the catchy at first, annoying as hell after the next ten or fifty stanzas of repeated beat/melody. A guy raps a little eventually, so there's that.

If we're just filling in people's last picks, we could throw in Uruk's  final pick as well as tim's penultimate in the 451-475 as he's the last one there.

####, sorry, shouldn't have posted one of those as there's still strategy. Edited.

BTS isn't my favorite K-Pop group but it was a huge global hit with over a billion Spotify streams.  It's got a great Pop hook that you've heard even if you don't know the song.
I'll test that out. BRB.

...

No sir -- totally unfamiliar. Unless you mean the handclapping beat. That's done plenty.

You got my other late round steal pick.  Congratulations.

My love for Aaliyah is well-documented.

Yeah, me either.
Heard this one a lot over the summer in the car with the kids. They loved hearing me ask if it was Justin Beeber. Every. Single. Time.

I'm surprised. It's been in commercials.
Tell me one ... might ring a bell after all.

EDIT: Now, there is a current commercial for ... something ... that has someone from BTS dancing in a subway (?) car with a young lady who I think is imagining his presence. The product advertised? Search me.

So looks like Tim is locked into Bad and Boujee (it’s already on the spreadsheet for him). Guess that means I’m up. I’ll be nice to Simey and Krista and select the following so they don’t have to (plus it fits well on my list).

#167 - Lose Yourself - Eminem

Mom’s spaghetti

That's the "Butter" commercial I linked a bit earlier.  Same band, different song.

@Uruk-Hai on the Bond movie, I said it was fun and it was. Lots of action but it is pretty dark and once you realize what the main plot was, it's easy to understand why they kept delaying it.

Thanks to all of those who ran/organized/rode herd on the rest of us to keep things going.

This draft was a lot of fun. I liked that we had a finite list to draft from - it made things both easier and harder than the normal, open-ended drafts.

I’m set up well for my last category - I’ll get one of three remaining songs that I like and that work well on my list.

I haven't seen any of the Craig Bond movies. Are they more serialized than earlier Bonds?

I think it got a lot of people to draft songs they rarely ever would because the songs were too popular. Was interesting to see where everyone fell when it comes to the classics.

Much more so.

There's some continuity between all the Craig Bonds except Skyfall and even that story was given a little wink in the No Time to Die script.

Yes but I still think you could watch any of them and figure out what is going on. My wife hadn't see any of them since Casino Royale 15 years ago and she had no issue following the NT2D.

Thanks. I don't watch many films anymore, but have been interested in the Craig take. So, I'll start with Casino Royale and go in order.

Casino Royale is fantastic. If you don't love it though,  don't continue with the series IMO. Casino Royale and Skyfall are the best of the Craig movies and Royale really sets the tone.

Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace just went back up on Amazon Prime.

Since we like to rank everything, I'd probably go with:  Casino Royale, No Time to Die, Skyfall, Quantum of Solace, Spectre but I may be overranking the new one for the novelty.

I did try to draft songs I haven't drafted before. I think I only ended up with one - "Georgia On My Mind". The rest, though, would all be considered "classics" in that they were all monster hits pre-1990. Except for my picks from the first two groups, that is.

Oh, and you're welcome on being left with the Kendrick Lamar song. Before I listened to it and "Gasolina", I assumed I'd take Lamar just because I at least knew he was considered a good artist (I had never heard of Daddy Yankee). I just didn't like that song though, from the reactions to you getting it, it seems like my ear for modern hip-hop is even worse than I thought

I must say thank you for the Gasolina pick. That was truly a gift. I will say, Alright is not at all the song I would have chose for Kendrick. There's at least 10 songs I would have taken before that.

Makes it easy when my pick is made for me, I have no idea who Bad and Boujee is. I’m listening to the song now. The lyrics are pretty crass. Other than that it sounds like a million other hip hop songs. But I’m not any kind of expert about this type of music.

I see that in the block 276-300, I pick before the others stuck with these craptacular songs.

Round 19  -  I Like It  (384)  -  Cardi B  (2018)

I actually like this song.  It just doesn't really go with my other choices.

But I didn't have to pick Coldplay.  What a bunch of tools.
