We're waiting on Floppo then timschochet. Floppo is an NY guy, so I'm assuming he's asleep for the night. He gets up early, though, if I'm not mistaken. I can take your pick for tomorrow, because I should be up reasonably early, though if you're going to be up at like eight or nine EST, then you'll beat me to the punch.

I don't know. It's sort of sad. I don't think I would've trusted him with much before, and I certainly wouldn't now. I know adults are going to adult, but this strikes me as hypocritical and sad.

 
10.21 - Prince - When Doves Cry  (#37)

It was an audacious choice for Prince to make this the first single from Purple Rain. When Doves Cry is still a unique sounding record with its guitar and synths swirling around a strange disembodied beat.  Prince spends most of the last two minutes vocalizing and screaming. Nothing about it says Pop hit but it became huge in the same year Reagan won 49 states.

 
11.05 - Fountains of Wayne - Radiation Vibe (#380)

Slots in neatly between the two Who songs.  There wasn't a ton of Power Pop on the RS list but this is a good one. I'm glad the voters chose this over the band's one big hit.

It can't compare to your Gen X memories of the nineties a few pages ago, but I remember exactly how I got this album. We used to take the kids to the mall on Friday night because there weren't a lot of options in the city for folks with two small children. There was a big Border's Books there so Mrs. Eephus and I would tag team between the kids section and the magazine rack. I remember skimming an article about Fountains of Wayne's debut when it was my turn with the magazines.  We stopped off at Tower Records on the way home and I bought the album.

Thanks for making the picks for me - it's much appreciated.

I love both of these records. To me, they are - along with a couple of others - the epitome of the first Motown peak. 

"Stop....." probably has the most mimicked hand gestures in pop history (Mary Wilson said it was because their gowns were so tight, they could only move their arms). But it's the musicians on this record who make it go. This is the sound of Berry Gordy's Porche revving up.

"Hanging" is when that Porche hits top speed. By this point, these men and women were so good at what they did that all they'd have to do is show up and musical magic would happen. That damned guitar line is etched into my brain until death comes to me. And Diana sings the hell out of it. This is one of those songs that really pushes her and she's up to the task.

I actually expected 80s to snipe me on "Hanging", since he's a master of all sounds Detroit. I had good backups, but I think I'm good with what I got.

Holy cow, I missed this or I would have picked it. I love this song. It's off of Eat To The Beat, which also features "Atomic," perhaps my favorite Blondie song behind this one.

RIP Adam Schlesinger, who also helped pen some very funny parody songs for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.

We were fostering two sisters- so cute, and my first experience with true kittens (I've only had adult cats...all rescues). The alpha was adopted almost immediately and we've been hanging out with her sister for a couple months now with no takers. She's pretty amazing- super cute, very loving and playful and a coat like velvet- I was very happy to keep her with our other two cats (they've all just started to get along really nicely).

But somebody is taking her today...and now I'm feeling a bit heartbroken that she's going. :(

 
#275. Randy Newman “Sail Away” 

Of all the artists featured on this list, I believe that Randy Newman is the only one who could get away with writing a song about American slave traders trying to talk Africans into coming aboard their ships to experience the Middle Passage, and actually make this most horrific chapter of our history ironically funny: 

In America there is food to eat 

Don’t have to run through the jungle and scuff up your feet 

You just sing about Jesus and drink wine all day 

Ita great to be an American 

All set to one of his best melodies: Simply brilliant.

Not sure whether to give this a like or a sad? I'm sure we will miss them too but they are alot of work- probably 3-4 hours a day between the 2 of us.

an entire litter and their mom would be a handful.

as it was, even the two kittens was a lot on top of our existing two cats (especially at the beginning needing to keep them separated). But we've had just the one for a couple months now- long enough that she feels part of the family and she's genuinely an amazing little girl... and I feel like we were a part of getting her there. All of that is making me sad that she'll be leaving. I'm going to really miss her.

He truly is the king.  I've picked his ode to the Cuyahoga River in a couple of drafts.  (Also kudos to the film editor who captured the essence of the song.)

If you have the picture saved on your computer, go to google and type in upload image. There are several free sites such as imgbb.  Click on that site, and you can upload your image from your computer. Once it is uploaded it will give you a link. Copy the link, and when you are typing on this site, hit the link image on the menu above. Then paste your image link in the URL portion of the link box.

I remember your posting them in the cat thread.  They were stunningly beautiful!  I'm surprised the second one didn't get snapped up immediately.
