Music Draft - Rolling Stone Greatest 500 Songs Garbage List - Now with unhealthy regional pork-stuffs! (2 Viewers)

I’ve gotta head out in about 15-20 minutes. Y’all mind if I make my pick before then if Tim hasn’t picked yet?  It won’t be from his next grouping.

Thought that was you picking it at first and thought that seemed uncharacteristic

Yeah, I'm trying to pick some slightly different stuff in this draft, but that one wasn't on my list.  I actually didn't have it Angry Red as I don't hate it, though.

#357 Taylor Swift “Blank Space”

Taylor has had a lot of lovers and they all think she’s insane. Very catchy tune. Best 500 ever? Maybe if this was a teenbubblegum pop draft. But I like it.

Been sitting on this one for a while - not sure if it’s on anyone else’s radar but I’d hate to miss out on it.

#192 - Mind Playing Tricks on Me - Geto Boys

I make big money, I drive big cars
Everybody know me, it's like I'm a movie star

The FBI is gonna think we're running an amphetamine ring with all this talk about Happy Greens. 😄
That brings up some memories that I have not thought about in decades. I sat beside a guy named Phillip throughout high school in homeroom.   He sold pot and speed. He always liked to show me his stash. I remember some of the names of his speed such as black beauty, speckled birds, yellow jackets, and white crosses. Those are the only ones I can remember, but I think there was one that had the word blue in it too.

I looked him up, and it appears that he is still affiliated with drugs.  He is a family physician and specializes in bariatric medicine in Pa. I reckon he isn't recommending speed for the people needing weight loss. He dyed his brown hair blonde, but he is still cute.

#132 - Paid in Full - Eric B & Rakim

Thinkin’ of a master plan
This song and album has always stuck with me since I first heard it in the summer before my sophomore year of high school. Rakim was just so cool, and his wordplay and the way he structured his rhymes was amazing at the time (and still holds up). Many artists that came out later would cite Rakim as an influence. And Eric B. was no slouch as a DJ, and was excellent and picking out obscure and not so obscure samples from 70s soul and funk. I would suggest folks listen to I Ain't No Joke, I Know You Got Soul, and Microphone Fiend (probably my favorite rhymes). (Apologies for the youtube links, don't have spotify).

There were a small handful of us with long hair at my college in the mid 80s... Mostly deadheads or Metalheads and a couple randoms like me. We all acknowledged each other around campus...little nod.

One of these guys was Ken and lived in my dorm. He was more of a 60s/70s throw back with a moustache to go with the long hair, plus patterned bell-bottoms. From the far off land of "Canada". A character.

Stories started filtering around the quad and dorm... I hear he steered his crew team (he was a coxswain) into the circle line ferry. I hear he's sneaking around in the tunnels (off limits network of tunnels under the campus connecting all the buildings). I hear he smokes crack. I hear he's growing pot down there.

One day after soccer practice, I couldn't get into our dorm- it had been closed off by the police. Standing on the sidewalk I noticed it wasnt just uniformed nyc cops...there were a large number of people in FBI coats walking in and out of the building. After about 15 minutes or so, a small posse of FBI agents came out with Ken in tow, putting him into unmarked car and driving off.

Turns out, yes- he had been roaming around the tunnels. And yes, he was growing pot. Don't know about the crack, But the FBI was there because he had used the tunnels to break into some lab and steal something radioactive...rumored to be plutonium. And yes, he was using that to try to irradiate his pot plants.

holy ####... just googled Ken.

it was Uranium-238.

and lots of other stuff during and since that reads like fiction. He's currently serving 15-18 years in federal prison for essentially becoming Breaking Bad. but at least he's not still in prison in Afghanistan as a suspected CIA spy.

I love the thought of throwing Rush right in the middle of an hour long hip hop set.

I would rather hear Two Princes on loop for 146 consecutive hours than hear Buckley’s Hallelujah again.  Thanks, movie and TV producers!
again... this is basically me for just about all of these songs.

but still love the song, even if every kid on every singing competition has sung it for the last 10 years.
