Definitely Sweden. This World Cup needs Zlatan so it can finally be worth watching.I dont think we should invite Greece back to the next World Cup. Next time we should replace them with one of the Scandanvian countries (preferably Sweden or Denmark).
Edit: You know, because they play beautiful football.

Jason Bent @Jason9Bent 4hI've waited years for England to play like Spain, now we are.

I'm not a soccer watcher, and I love the summer olympics, but eventually the world cup is going to take over as my favorite sporting event. There's too much to like. You know I don't even care that this game sucks because there's nothing like having 8 consecutive hours of soccer everyday for 2-3 weeks. Throw in a US win to keep it interesting for the home side and it just doesn't get better than this.

Thanks! Columbia it is.Do NOT watch the Japan game. It is not recommended for good health.
Columbia game was great, those two games could not be more different from each other.
No, Columbia it isn't. Just like it isn't Chili, or Nicaraguo, or Costo Rico, or Mexica, or Brassile. Thanks! Columbia it is.Do NOT watch the Japan game. It is not recommended for good health.

He isn't a guy that the entire team focusses on shutting out, yet. Maybe he should be, but right now, he isn't. He still finds sneaky openings (to his credit). Messi and Ronaldo are double to trill teamed every time they are near an opening. Especially Messi since he plays directly in the middle. Makes it much easier to collapse on him at every touch. I think that is way Ronaldo likes to line up on the sideline. What he showed today is why I think he is truly in the conversation with Messi and CRonaldo for best player in the world right now.Sorry guys. That damn Uruguayan dude is quick.Woz> you suck
Agreed. Suarez is a classic finisher in the highest sense, but of what I have seen (maybe those that watch more can correct me) he isn't a creator. Not sure what you mean by horribly overrated. They lost games to Italy and Uruguay 2-1, and were never out of either game...and they can still go throughMan, I can't pick fantasy players worth ####, but did I nail the fact that England is horribly overrated or what?

Don't think too many people had them going further than just out of the group
Sounds like a good time!Ballack seemed pretty happy after the England game.I was in a bar full of England supporters. I don't think there is any better schadenfreude than watching England collapse with a bunch of England fans.
ETA: if you're into that sort of thing.
Right, they performed to expectations. If Rooney could have finished more than 1 of his 3 point blank shots, they might have been through.FIFA rankings had both Italy and Uruguay ahead of England. Not sure what you mean by horribly overrated. It's stupid, but this annoys the hell out of me. You don't see Germany insisting they be referred to as Deutschland or Italy as Italia and so on.Boy that Ελλάδα v 日本 game was no fun to watch tonight.Cote D'Ivoire
Cote D'Ivoire gets away with it because it sounds badass IMO.It's stupid, but this annoys the hell out of me. You don't see Germany insisting they be referred to as Deutschland or Italy as Italia and so on.Boy that Ελλάδα v 日本 game was no fun to watch tonight.Cote D'Ivoire
The Cooper's Tavern IMOI have all games on my computer/PS3 to watch although I have not watched all. Someone needs to put some rankings down as to "must watch", "watch if nothing better to do" and finally "don't bother". Two of the games today would fit into the "must watch" while the third is a "don't bother". Someone get on this or do a rating of some kind.
I'll be in Madison, WI, for Sundays USA game. Where to go for it?

I agree with your greater point. I brought this up with my GF today. I feel very uncomfortable saying "You're a guay" and I feel weird hearing it. Yet, I feel slightly pretentious saying "Uw'er-guay". I just can't can't bring myself to mispronounce it to appease my audience. Although, at times, I do say "Gy-rose" instead of the "Heeros" when I knew I'm surrounded by a bunch of chets who don't understand the beauty of a ground lamb and pita sammich. And I always feel dirty about it.It's stupid, but this annoys the hell out of me. I get that and you'll see me use Deutschland in here on gamedays. Look for it tomorrow. I make a point of writing and saying Bayern München instead of Bayern Munich, and I use umlauts when typing Müller, Özil and others. My gripe is that they have convinced FIFA to only refer to them in the French.A history/memory quiz. We're all used to seeing the three letter abbreviation for the different countries; CIV for Ivory Coast (see what I did), GER for Germany, ESP for Spain and so on. West Germany and East Germany ... who remembers how they used to be displayed?Norman Paperman said::greatposting:QuizGuy66 said:Cote D'Ivoire gets away with it because it sounds badass IMO.--QGMjolnirs said:It's stupid, but this annoys the hell out of me. I'll go Côte d'Ivoire when I can, I'll also throw in an Italia, and Brasil, and an occasional España. Rare that Deutschland gets used, but I would not be offended.

The suspense is just so much fun. I couldn't care less about who won the Uruguay/England game, but damn was that back/forth at the end a ton of fun to watch.TenTimes said:I'm not a soccer watcher, and I love the summer olympics, but eventually the world cup is going to take over as my favorite sporting event. East was something like GDR, right (I'm pretty sure there was an 'R' somewhere in their for Republic)? In answer to the Germany question:
GDR is right for East. FRG was the West. German Democratic Republic and Federal Republic of Germany as I recall.
Now can you name the abbreviation used for the old Soviet Uniion?

BRD = Bundesrepublik Deutschland (former west Germany, "FRG" in English)
DDR = Deutsche Demokratische Republik (former East Germany, "GRD" in English)

Correct. In German they were DDR and BRDSoviet Union? The first thing that comes to mind is USR (Union of Soviet Republics), but for some reason, maybe because FIFA and the IOC do things in French and stuff gets backward, it may have been URS.
