Yes, this is what's causing the US to go right to hell.

 
I've always said that athletes and fans should stand at rapt attention throughout the song ... unless one of the words coincides somehow with the nickname or colors of their favorite team, at which point they should loudly scream that word in the middle of the anthem.

For example, I for one get a little misty when those proud Baltimore patriots scream out "O" during the second to last line of the anthem in honor of their favorite baseball team. Or those noble Atlantans who shout "Braves" over the singular "brave" at the end of the song. They truly honor America and the sacrifices of our military with these dignified salutes. It is beyond reproach that Kapernick would undermine their solemn tribute by quietly sitting or kneeling during the song.

Playing the anthem at sports events is cheapening its effect. Protect the sanctity of our anthem, disallow it at commercial sports events.

Yes, all NFL players do, although they do not directly benefit from the sales of their individual jersey - a share of the total revenue for all jerseys is split evenly among them.

First of all, this was such a horribly done poll that a lot of people saying he had the right to do this were not cheering him on and didn't vote for the "Good For Him" option.

Secondly, Tortorella is imposing his views of freedom of expression upon the players. Does he have that right? Sure, but not the 49ers or any other NFL team has indicated that will be their responses to similar actions in the future. And as was pointed out by an ex-Syracuse Crunch star now on the Tampa Bay Lightning roster.

Thought it was kinda stuntish at first, but now that he's come out and pledged money to charities, met and compromised with a green beret, etc. I'm firmly in the "good for him" camp. I don't seem to be the only one who's shifted.

John Tortorella is getting paid to win hockey games. At least, in theory. The idea that his personal politics, no matter the issue, would determine which players would compete in a game to help him achieve that aim is, frankly, dereliction of duty. And we would pay big, huge money to listen to that conversation between Tortorella and his 50-year-old general manager in Columbus – a native of Tampere, Finland – as the coach explains that star defenseman Seth Jones was scratched because he didn’t stand for a few minutes of pregame propaganda, and because the player’s personal politics aren’t as important as his white, privileged coach’s.

(And if you’re going to somehow argue the playing of the anthem before a sporting event isn’t propaganda, then you’re ignorant of its history at these sporting events.)

RENTON, Wash. -- Colin Kaepernick's message is picking up support in the Seattle Seahawks' locker room, with wide receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive end Cliff Avril considering a protest in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.

Asked if he has considered taking a knee during the national anthem, Baldwin said, "I have. I want to make sure that I get all of my ducks in a row before I do so."

After Kaepernick's initial protest, Baldwin said he reached out to the 49ers quarterback and talked to him extensively.

"My grandfather being in the military, it hit home for me as well," Baldwin said. "It's the veterans. That's more heartening to me than anything. It's the veterans that have reached out and said that that's what they fought for. That's what they sacrificed their lives for was to give people back home under the flag, under the country, the opportunity to stand up or sit for what they believe in. So that was very heartening for me to hear that and that response from the veterans."

Avril said he doesn't see the gesture as one that disrespects the military.

"Are you really disrespecting the military from the standpoint, like let's talk about the people that go to war, how they're treated when they come back," Avril said. "Let's talk about that. That's the ultimate disrespect. But that's what this country's built off of -- freedom of speech. So why is it a big deal that [Kaepernick's] able to display how he feels? That's crazy to me. It can't be one-sided. It also depends on who's doing it."  [...]

 
i just want to say that i respect our soldiers and the freedoms that i enjoy that they have served to protect and i appreciate our armed forces police and emts a great deal take that to the thank you bank bromigos
