Nice to see that you and RBM have your weekend all planned out.

The fact that his jersey sales are on the rise is showing how ####ed up this country really is...........

Glad I'm 57 and will be dirt napping soon.....I can't take this crap...this country is going right into HELL
Yes, this is what's causing the US to go right to hell.

I've always said that athletes and fans should stand at rapt attention throughout the song ... unless one of the words coincides somehow with the nickname or colors of their favorite team, at which point they should loudly scream that word in the middle of the anthem.

For example, I for one get a little misty when those proud Baltimore patriots scream out "O" during the second to last line of the anthem in honor of their favorite baseball team. Or those noble Atlantans who shout "Braves" over the singular "brave" at the end of the song. They truly honor America and the sacrifices of our military with these dignified salutes. It is beyond reproach that Kapernick would undermine their solemn tribute by quietly sitting or kneeling during the song.

Playing the anthem at sports events is cheapening its effect. Protect the sanctity of our anthem, disallow it at commercial sports events.

Does he even get any money from jersey sales?
Yes, all NFL players do, although they do not directly benefit from the sales of their individual jersey - a share of the total revenue for all jerseys is split evenly among them.

Circumstances have changed a lot since the poll was posted.  He polished up his act last week, and I think it's clear a lot of mehs have changed to support.
Why is that clear? I'm seeing the same posters over and over again.

Your statement is an opinion, and not valid unless you have data to back it up.

Feels like 15% of the voters in the poll have an overwhelming number of posts in the thread.

http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/hockey/u-s-coach-john-tortorella-stand-anthem-sit-world-cup-article-1.2780406 Guy wants his players standing, do those that are dominating the number of posts in here have an issue with this?
First of all, this was such a horribly done poll that a lot of people saying he had the right to do this were not cheering him on and didn't vote for the "Good For Him" option.

Secondly, Tortorella is imposing his views of freedom of expression upon the players. Does he have that right? Sure, but not the 49ers or any other NFL team has indicated that will be their responses to similar actions in the future. And as was pointed out by an ex-Syracuse Crunch star now on the Tampa Bay Lightning roster.

Wouldn't benching a black man for taking a stance only further prove Kap's point of oppression? But hey

I'm yet to hear any players on the squad voice their anger though. Maybe you and Roadkill should write him an angry letter.
   This is what you asked "do those that are dominating the number of posts in here have an issue with this? "   My opinion has nothing to do with how his players feel.

:goodposting:

Thought it was kinda stuntish at first, but now that he's come out and pledged money to charities, met and compromised with a green beret, etc. I'm firmly in the "good for him" camp. I don't seem to be the only one who's shifted.

' who could have bent him in half the wrong way if he hadn't softene his stance...

From Greg Wyshynski of Yahoo on Tortorella:

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/john-tortorella-would-bench-colin-kaepernick-anthem-protesters-222744029.html

[...]

But if a player on John Tortorella’s team dared join in a protest like that? The coach laid it out for Linda Cohn of ESPN:

“If any of my players sit on the bench for the national anthem, they will sit there the rest of the game.”

(Memo to those players: Hey, it might cost you a regular-season game, but your jersey sales are going to be sick.)

[...]

Setting aside the fact that John Tortorella would healthy-scratch a player for lacing his skates differently than John Tortorella does, this is just a staggeringly foolish thing for an NHL coach to say, let alone one who also coaches the U.S. national team.

John Tortorella is getting paid to win hockey games. At least, in theory. The idea that his personal politics, no matter the issue, would determine which players would compete in a game to help him achieve that aim is, frankly, dereliction of duty. And we would pay big, huge money to listen to that conversation between Tortorella and his 50-year-old general manager in Columbus – a native of Tampere, Finland – as the coach explains that star defenseman Seth Jones was scratched because he didn’t stand for a few minutes of pregame propaganda, and because the player’s personal politics aren’t as important as his white, privileged coach’s.

(And if you’re going to somehow argue the playing of the anthem before a sporting event isn’t propaganda, then you’re ignorant of its history at these sporting events.)

Kaeperdick is a clown and Ahole...... I'd like to see a crazy War Vet take him hostage...and have him call 911 to try  to  get the San Fran PD to come to his house....
probably have to take all the war vets who are supporting him, with him.    Run back to the assistant coach forum.

Seahawks support Colin Kaepernick's message, mull Week 1 protest:

RENTON, Wash. -- Colin Kaepernick's message is picking up support in the Seattle Seahawks' locker room, with wide receiver Doug Baldwin and defensive end Cliff Avril considering a protest in Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.

Asked if he has considered taking a knee during the national anthem, Baldwin said, "I have. I want to make sure that I get all of my ducks in a row before I do so."

Added Avril: "We're thinking  about it. I am. I truly respect what Kaep is doing. I think some people are taking it out of context because they're not experiencing the same thing other people are experiencing. They can't really see it. But as a person that does see it and does see what's really going on out here, I definitely could see me doing something about it as well."

Baldwin recently posted a message on Facebook in which a member of the military told the wide receiver that he'd support him if he were to kneel for the anthem. [...]

Baldwin and several of his teammates spent a day training with combat divers this offseason and have discussed their respect for the armed forces.

After Kaepernick's initial protest, Baldwin said he reached out to the 49ers quarterback and talked to him extensively.

"My grandfather being in the military, it hit home for me as well," Baldwin said. "It's the veterans. That's more heartening to me than anything. It's the veterans that have reached out and said that that's what they fought for. That's what they sacrificed their lives for was to give people back home under the flag, under the country, the opportunity to stand up or sit for what they believe in. So that was very heartening for me to hear that and that response from the veterans."

Avril said he doesn't see the gesture as one that disrespects the military.

"Are you really disrespecting the military from the standpoint, like let's talk about the people that go to war, how they're treated when they come back," Avril said. "Let's talk about that. That's the ultimate disrespect. But that's what this country's built off of -- freedom of speech. So why is it a big deal that [Kaepernick's] able to display how he feels? That's crazy to me. It can't be one-sided. It also depends on who's doing it."  [...]

i just want to say that i respect our soldiers and the freedoms that i enjoy that they have served to protect and i appreciate our armed forces police and emts a great deal take that to the thank you bank bromigos
