When you look at what Cousins is being paid this year and next year ($90 million over the next 2 years) they would be INSANE to bench him for Penix. Now if he gets hurt, that's different but to bench a guy that will make over 2.6 million a game sitting on the bench sounds crazy to me.
I agree in principal. Then again why pay a QB $90 mil then immediately draft his replacement, who is already old by rookie standards?
The Falcons are 100% committed to Cousins, until they're not. They signed 31 year old Justin Simmons, they traded for 32 year old Matthew Judon. Those aren't moves for the future, they're moves for right now. Arthur Smith may be crazy enough to believe this team can make a deep playoff run and if Cousins falters I won't be in the least surprised if they bench their $90 million man.
