Not as famous as his older brother ObiWuan, some scouts think he has higher upside than Vols bookend Antonio Richardson.
Would make a nice RT bookend with LT Samuels, James is a physical run blocker with a rare amount of starting SEC experience. The "team that represents the nation's capitol" would still have work to do on the interior OL, but he would be a nice building block to protect franchise QB RG3, who was running for his life far too often in 2013.

Most of the attention on the Vols' offensive line went to massive LT Antonio Richardson, but Tennessee has another good NFL prospect on the other side of the line. At 6-6 1/8 and 315 pounds, James will be hard to miss at the Senior Bowl. He holds the school record for most starts by an offensive lineman (49, all at right tackle), including 13 games as a true freshman. He reminds me of Titans RT David Stewart when Stewart came out of Mississippi State in 2005; has similar traits. He's strong but doesn't have great feet (would have difficult time at LT). He's mean and tough. Did good job on Jadeveon Clowney when the South Carolina defensive end lined up on James' side. Good run-blocker. Could find his way into the third round with a good showing this week.

James presents as a big, powerful tackle prospect capable of coming into the NFL and contributing sooner than later…Possesses an ideal frame; built thick and solid from the shoulders through his calves… A powerful player at the POA, James consistently creates a jolt on contact that stuns the defender and pushes him backward…Does a nice job getting inside hand position and extending his arms to control the action when engaged with the defender… While possessing only average feet, James does have enough athletic ability to play on the right side of an offensive line…He is a long player who uses his length to recover versus faster defensive ends…Possesses enough athletic ability to get to the second level and complete a block versus smaller, faster linebackers…Plays with a good, wide base and is constantly keeping his feet moving through contact in the running game…Better suited for in-line blocking; he’s tough and physical, playing from the snap of the ball until the whistle is blown.
James needs to do a better job at getting out of his stance quickly at the snap of the ball; He is consistently one of the last offensive linemen moving after the ball is snapped…Struggles versus speedy defensive ends; can lose balance versus spd to power pass rush…While generally displays good hand usage, at times he will absorb the oncoming pass rush instead of initiate contact.
Ja’Wuan James is a tackle whose name doesn’t get mentioned quite enough when discussing the top offensive linemen available for the 2014 NFL Draft. It’s rare that a tackle prospect enters the NFL with 49 career starts (and in the SEC nonetheless), and that experience will be highly coveted on Draft weekend. But it’s not just the fact that James has 49 starts at right tackle; he’s a very, very sound prospect. James is big, he’s physical, he plays with good hands and a solid base, and is constantly driving and battling his opponent through the whistle. While he might not possess the most gifted pair of feet, he certainly has the length and overall technique to win on the right side of an NFL offensive line. James is one of those plug and play prospects that you can rely on as early as his rookie season, either through his ability to win a job outright in camp or to serve as a valuable backup on game day. I won't be around to make the Chargers 3rd round pick if anyone would like to take over. Most pressing needs are CB and OG but whatever happens in this mock doesn't affect the real NFL draft so go crazy with it and have a good time.

With the 67th pick in the 2014 NFL Draft the Oakland Raiders select Trent Murphy DE/OLB Stanford.
The Raiders need a pass rusher in the worst way. The Raiders like to play both the 4-3 and 3-4 defense. Murphy can play OLB in the 3-4 and DE in the 4-3. This just seemed like to good of value to pass up at this point at one of the Raiders biggest needs. The Raiders showed a lot of interest in him at the Senior Bowl and they like players that are multiple.
I did consider a couple of the RB's here at this spot as well, however I think the Raiders will be ok going into the season with Jennings if they re-sign him, Latavius Murray, Kory Sheets and Marcel Reece.

Raiders are having a great draft.
The thing about RBs is, well, they're kinda not valuable anymore. Also, in a draft this deep, it would be a mistake to take one in the 2nd round, anyway. And there are like 7-8 good ones to choose from. I can see them going in bunches in rounds 3-5.

Thanks IHEARTFF. I agree about the RB's, even though I did give them some serious consideration they aren't the Raiders biggest need and if this mock did go 4 rounds I feel like I could get one there if I really wanted one. Trent Murphy was the highest rated player left on my board. I had him rated as the 43rd player on my board so I was very happy to land him at pick #67 and it happned to coincide with a huge need for the Raiders.

Lacy won Rookie of the Year, he was deemed more valuable than any other rookie at any other position (despite Keenan Allen having a Rookie of the Year-worthy season in many other years). Bernard was an integral part of the offense and played a big role in a playoff season.
I'm not saying five will go in the second round like last year, but I'll be surprised if one or two don't go in the first two rounds (like Hyde).
If the NFL had a do over of the 2013 draft, you don't think Lacy would go higher?
* That was just a general comment, I wouldn't have taken a RB for OAK there, either. Trent Murphy was a great pick, good chance he doesn't last this long in the actual draft (though it will be interesting to see what his 40 time is).

No, I don't think Lacy would. Advanced NFL stats had 87 players worth more EPA than LeSean McCoy, who was easily the most valued RB last year. There were 20 players with more WPA than McCoy. And that's the most valuable RB in the league. Lacy is way less valuable.

How many of those 87 players were rookies that could have been taken instead of Lacy? You are changing the boundaries of the discussion to make your point.
* How do you explain the fact that NFL teams are aware of these types of stats, and yet, DESPITE that, drafted five RBs in the second round of 2013?
How many RBs were on those lists, and where were they in relation to McCoy? Maybe different teams value different types of RBs and the different stats they reflect. Does the stat account for the threat he presents out of the backfield, and that the opposition has to defend him differently, and that might create opportunities for teammates?
Where was Lynch on those lists? Do you think SEA values him as an integral part of their success, regardless of where he falls on lists like this? Do the lists account for the fact that he grinds down the clock and shortens games, that he can preserve leads, that he physically beats up defenders during the game?

Evidently the voters and you have different criteria.
Perhaps their criteria is closer to the teams that drafted five RBs in the second round (EPA stats notwithstanding).
Looking it up, Lacy had 35 votes, Allen was next closest with 12. Bernard, Warford and Patterson had 1 each.
Have to agree to disagree on this, we will find out soon enough in May.

Don't worry about it at all.
He was the guy that I was trying to trade for with the 2015 pick. Now I need to consider the idea that since I got him late that I could still use that 1st to take a guy that I would have taken at the 2.63 spot had Adams been the earlier pick. Hmmmm.... :chinscratch:

If not for the injury bug (a big concern, no doubt) Easley could be in the conversation for a top 10 pick. A bit of a tweener but the Falcons can line him up in multiple spots to take advantage of his ability. And if he can return to form he's a bargain here.

How would defenses like to tackle Chris Ivory and Hyde 30 times a game? I wanted the ND TE here, but those damn Pats beat me to him. Jets need offenisve playmakers and Hyde is the best all around back in this class. Rex will love him.

I wasn't all that interested in him at first but the more I read the more I like his chances working with Norv Turner. He seems like an Aikman or Flacco style QB that would really mesh with the Turner style.

It would be great if they could bring Cassel back for one more year (can't believe I'm saying that) and let Mettenberger's knee and ability develop one more year before he takes over.

It would be great if they could bring Cassel back for one more year (can't believe I'm saying that) and let Mettenberger's knee and ability develop one more year before he takes over.

If this was the actual Jets draft I would be very happy....would love to grab a TE but if the value isn't there I could live with Cumberland one more year...hopefully they add a FA as well - great job and another 3rd to boot....Jets should be very strong the next few years if these picks pan out.

That and he was horrible against the Badgers in the Cap One bowl. Granted that's the only game I really watched SC this year but he was invisible in that game. I would jump off a bridge (not really) if these were the Packers 1st 2 picks....yuck.

I don't know if he'll turn out OK, but I think he has as much upside as anyone else in this draft and you won't need a 1st to bring him in. If a team is planning on drafting a QB, they may as well take this guy in the 2nd/3rd and a good player in the 1st.

2.09 - Antonio Richardson OT - Tennessee
3.09 - Jimmy Ward S - Northern Illinois
I thought there was great value in the 2nd and 3rd round picks. Richardson could easily be a first rounder as we move closer to draft day. Obviously, there is some concern with consistency with him, but hopefully we can get that ironed out. He fills a major hole at RT for us.
Ebron serves to add a physical weapon for EJ Manuel and will hopefully contribute heavily to his development as our franchise QB.
Jimmie Ward is an excellent safety prospect who could have the ability to come in and play right away. I believe he has the tools to become a complete safety and one of the best in the league. His range and ball skills are excellent. If Jarius Byrd proves to be too expensive, I think we let him walk and go with Ward at FS.

I was gonna go Richardson to take as a competition with Koujandijo with the loser going to RT. I'm targetting Ebron in all of my rookie drafts, no matter what team he goes to. I think he'll be a playmaker. Don't really like Jimmy Ward since I think safeties should be bigger in this era of giant recieving TEs, but I admit I don't know much about him.

ALL signs point to STL prioritizing an upgrade over Clemens at backup QB and grooming a developmental prospect at the all important position. Obviously not sure if it will be this early, or if he will be the QB. But most Rams observers are convinced they will get one, probably not in the first two rounds, possibly later in the fourth or even fifth round. So this could reflect my bias on player and round. But I think with the need so great, it would be better to get the player I want here rather than get too cute and lose him (hi soon to be cut Isaiah Pead/already cut Ro Watkins instead of Mychal Kendricks or Bobby Wagner in the 2012 mid-second!). I also think the Rams could be interested in a RB complement to Stacy, as they evolved into a run-centric offense, Stacy got dinged a few times and he has a very physical, collision-friendly style. Probably not this high, especially if the draft breaks like this (though if they trade down from 1.2 and/or 1.13, they could have extra day two picks). Hyde IMO would have been a steal in the third, I like Mason and could have reunited him with Robinson, but he could be available in the fourth. I was going to play it by ear if no QB selected in this round, but was strongly leaning in the QB direction regardless. Mettenberg going a few picks ago sealed it. I like Murray better than the remaining QBs by a wide margin (McCarron, Boyd, etc.). He has four years starting experience in the SEC, has the conference record for passing TDs and is the first to ever have four 3,000 yard seasons. Maybe he would drop further with the ACL injury (than again, Mettenberger didn't), but I think Murray is scheduled to throw by his pro day. Clemens is a lower echelon backup, and with the starter's checkered medical history, they can't be caught with their pants down at the position again. Murray is good enough that he could win games if he is pressed into action for a game or two, and even to be groomed as an eventual starter if the need arises. Given a high liklihood IMO of an extra day two pick or two, if Murray is a target they covet, they may not want to wait until day three and risk losing him, and settling for a lesser prospect.
