Shark Pool Mock #1 (1 Viewer)

3.87 Chiefs Keith McGill, CB/S, Utah

Has the skill to stay at corner but could move to safety and might be better there. Has been compared to Sherman, not sure how accurate that is but he's got the size to cover any WR.

3.88 Bengals take Kareem Martin, DE, UNC.

Another DE to develop if Michael Johnson leaves in free agency.

STRENGTHS: Certainly looks the part of a first round pick, boasting broad shoulders, long arms and a trim middle reminiscent of an NBA power forward. Offers good initial quickness off the snap, as well as straight-line speed to close quickly on the ball-carrier. Martin's best attribute is his strength at the point of attack. He gets a strong initial jolt to his opponent, quickly locking out to survey the action and showing the strength to rip himself free and pursue or stay home, as needed. While not particularly fluid, Martin's length and strength aid him as a tackler, as he's able to grab hold of the ball-carrier and throw him to the ground. Possesses the frame to handle moving inside on obvious passing downs, using his burst to split gaps.

WEAKNESSES: While possessing good initial quickness, he isn't explosive off the ball and is stiff when attempting to turn the corner or when changing directions. This inflexibility allows mobile quarterbacks and other alert ball-carriers to elude Martin in the open field. Does not use his length well to knock down passes at the line of scrimmage, tipping only three passes in 2013 (the same number in 2012)... Broke out with a spectacular senior campaign (including a safety in the Belk Bowl win over Cincinnati) to prompt questions as to where was this consistency throughout his career...

COMPARES TO: Justin Tuck, New York Giants -The team that selects Martin hopes the UNC standout will show the same dedication towards improvement that Tuck has since earning a third round pick out of Notre Dame in 2005. Tuck has developed into a fine pass rusher for the Giants but his game remains reliant on his length and strength at the point of attack.

Draft Grades??

I give the Packers an A+

Getting three very talented players and addressing key areas of need.
As a Packer fan I would give this a C-/D+. A TE is a luxary with all of the weapons they have on offense. Yes defensive line is a need but so is Safety and LB. My draft would've been Clinton Dix in the 1st, DaQuan Jones in the 2nd (yes you got him in the 3rd but it seems like people thought he was already gone) and in the 3rd I would've taken a LB. I won't name the guy since he's still out there but he's a player and has been climbing up Mayocks draft board (says hes a 2nd rounder).

I was just coming in to say that I don't disagree that it hasn't been bad, but literally every other packer fan to chime in disagrees.

Houston Texans F.

Nothing wrong with Clowney, but there is not the most remote possibility that Texans not only draft Derek Carr, but trade up giving assets to do it.

With pick 3.27 (91), The New Orleans Saints select RB Jeremy Hill, LSU

Having filled two major needs at CB2/nickel CB and ROT, getting ready for post Drew Brees era. After QB run, like current 3rd QB from Tulane more than anybody left at QB. Was looking at one small school QB, some OLB's and a project WR here but going with Hill. Character issues are overblown (BJ from high school girl in high school and punch outside an area bar). It's not like he killed somebody ((Donte Stallworth, Ray Lewis (allegedly), etc. and especially not multiple people (A. Hernandez)). Even punched out a woman in an elevator. His running style is a poor fit for current offense (see Ingram) but with young interior G studs and old expensive RB corps, good piece to add now and build offense around later.

NFL.com - Overview

2013: Rushed for 1,401 yards, second-most in school history. His 6.9-yard average set a new SEC record. Second Team All-SEC. Missed opener vs TCU (and first quarter vs UAB) due to suspension. Ranked second in SEC with 116.8 rushing YPG. Rushed for 100+ yards a school-record-tying seven times. 2012: First true freshman to lead LSU in rushing since 2003 (Justin Vincent). At least one rushing TD in 7 of 10 games. High School: No. 11 RB in (Scout). Misc: Sat out the fall semester in 2011 after being arrested on sexual assault charges. Was suspended in April 2013 after allegedly punching a man outside a campus bar. On probation until July 12, 2015.

Strengths Outstanding size. Good initial quickness -- gets rolling downhill in a hurry. Quick feet for a bigger back. Slashes through holes. Spins off tackles and picks up yards after contact. Shows good hands in limited exposure -- effective short receiver. Productive in a pro-style power offense -- averaged nearly 7 yards per carry as a sophomore. Takes care of the ball -- one fumble in 371 career touches. Has tread on his tires and will be a 21-year-old rookie.

Weaknesses Average vision and balance. Shows some hip tightness and does not string moves together. Can do a better job running behind his pads between the tackles -- enters the hole upright, negating his ability to move the pile. Gears down to cut laterally and slide to another hole. Average second-level burst. Lacks elite top-end speed to pull away from the pack and can be tracked down before reaching the edge. Was not used extensively as a receiver and did not run a variety of routes. Was contained by Alabama. Character, maturity and stability must be investigated thoroughly.

Bottom Line Big, thickly built, athletic slasher with an overinflated sense of his abilities and character red flags, which could cause some teams to shy away. Fits best in a downhill scheme and has potential to be a 20-carry back in the NFL, but must run to his size more consistently and prove his unstable behavior is a thing of the past.

.
Good pick. I think if his character red flags check-out that the Browns would be interested in him.

New Browns OC Kyle Shanahan's offense is built on a strong rushing attack, everything is built off the run and he likes big backs like Hill or Hyde and Hill seems like he'd fit an offense with slide-zone blocking schemes where the RB has to be a one-cut type of back. Sankey may be more talented, certainly he's faster but Sankey is only 205 lbs whereas Jeremy Hill is 235 lbs.

Cleveland could have their eye on someone later in the draft, see what Washington did where they found Alfred Morris in the 6th round.

Not too many teams are really in need of a RB so I think their could be bargains later even if this isn't deemed a deep RB crop. I don't think demand will sap the supply so I think in the real NFL draft that some teams will find some late-round gems.

Good pick of Jeremy Hill here though. Solid bargain IMHO.

Browns did a really nice job in this draft.
:hifive:

I seriously wanna be part of the Browns org.

eta: Id love someone to grade my draft... maybe a Browns fan and a non-Browns fan
Not a Browns fan, but I like what you've done with one (big) caveat. Getting arguably the #1 ranked WR and OG was a great start. Roberson and Sankey are top 5s in their respective positions. But now here comes the "but" part. The biggest risk you took was in trading down and picking Garoppolo quite a bit ahead of his projected ADP. You'll look like an absolute genius if either Garoppolo pans out or Hoyer becomes a legitimate QB1 next year. That being said, I can see why you made that choice, and if another team had done it I wouldn't blink. However, this is the Browns we're talking about. When you're a team like the Browns or Vikings who have suffered very recent and/or repeated complete whiffs while reaching for a QB, I daresay that's a bridge too far. At some point you've got to fix the damn problem under center and forego trying to get cute and pick up another 2nd rounder lest you wind up needing to draft another QB next year or so. Witness passing on Big Ben in 2004 in order to draft Kellen Winslow, or passing on Aaron Rogers in 2005 to pick Braylon Edwards. Or hell, even in 2012 when you picked Weeden in the first instead of Tannehill (much less Foles or Wilson later on).

So I give you a B+ for now. That will get upgraded to an A+ if your QB situation works out, and down to a C if it doesn't.

Nice review. You probably didnt get to follow the whole draft, butnI stated early i do NOT like the qb class this year and no way I was taking one in the first.

Jimmy G is as good as any of them, inmy opinion and thats why I went the route I did

eta: Id love someone to grade my draft... maybe a Browns fan and a non-Browns fan
Diffcult to grade a draft in a vacum. I'd have to go through every single pick by evey single team and also would have to have a good solid understanding of the needs of each team to put things into proper context and I'm not doing that.

I can give my feedback.

- First pick Sammy Watkins

The top QBs of this draft will determine the outcome for any team who takes on in the top 8 picks. If they hit then the sky is the limit but if they miss it could set them back because next year's crop of QBs looks better on top. If in the real NFL draft, Browns GM Ray Farmer moves-up for a QB his entire career will hinge on that selection and many of the top draft guys have the QBs ranked much lower on their top-fifty lists than where they are projected to go. So I love that you did not reach for a QB at the top and that you were able to trade-down and get 'something' in return but I'd prefer a clean extra pick instead of moving up a round but I love that you didn't feel the pressure to take a QB and that you were able to game a trade-down and still pick up the top WR of this class. You filled a need and avoided a potential disaster and you got extra so that is an A+ move.

- Second pick OG David Yankey

If you look at this draft you took the top interior offensive lineman and it started a bit of a run where all of the top interior O-Linemen got plucked. Yankey not only fills a team need but he fills a dire team need since our weakest link on our O-Line was/is RG and new OC Kyle Shanahan has stated he will install a slide-zone blocking scheme and Lavauo doesn't fit that scheme so for the Browns David Yankey is a fantastic pick here. A+ for the Browns.

- Third pick QB Jimmy Garoppolo

Hard to project where he'll go so I don't know if this was a value. His best attribute is he throws guys open which I personally feel is crucial for a QB. He's not ready, won't start, and I'm not sure of his upside. Browns biggest need is long-term stability at QB and I can't say for sure Jimmy is the long-term answer. C grade due to unsure upside and where he was selected.

- Fourth pick CB Marcus Roberson

Tall CB, projected to go at the end of the 1st round in many mocks I've seen. Not the top rated prospect at both WR Sammy Watkins and OG David Yankey so he can't get an A let alone an A+ as those prospects got. Fills a big hole on the team. B+.

- Fifth pick RB Bishop Sankey

Few teams need a RB so I think that position could have been filled later to gain more value. RB is a need for Cleveland and it will be filled, either in the draft or free agency. I like Bishop but having looked into Kyle Shanahan's system he likes bigger backs so although he's a great talent and fills a need I have to ding this pick a bit because I don't see other teams needing RBs so I felt RB could have been addressed later and I also don't think he fits the system that Shanahan will install. B-

Overall? Excellent draft and its because the Browns hold the most picks in a deep draft and if this was the draft then four of the five picks would have legitmate shots to turn into starters so that obviously would rate an A+ grade for any team.

Solid. Thank you, sir.

Agree with a lot of what you said. I hear your criticisms and can see what you mean.

Well, I was keeping him for a possible Vikings pick, but I think this will work.

2.92 Carolina - Demarcus Lawrence, DE - Boise St.

Where's our Carolina picker? They should take a DE because they're going to lose Greg Hardy.
Michael Sam.
He's more of a 3-4 OLB.
I think this is the issue with Sam is he's judged too-stiff to be an OLB and too small to be a 4-3 DE.

He really isn't a great fit for any base but he is a solid pass rusher.

One thing I saw when looking at some video of him is that when he has a lane to the QB that he has a really odd, almost flat-footed gate. Very unusual and it might be a reason why he was soo good at rushing the passer.

May only play in sub packages but he could wind up being really good but probably not a full-time starter.

People can call Sam a tweener all they want, and they are probably right, but I see many of the same traits in Sam as I do when I watch Robert Mathis. I think there will be a 4-3 team that will be happy to give him a shot at a 4-3 DE.

You know who are worse than Hitler? People that are in a thread when their pick comes up and then disappear as soon as it's their turn.
