Shark Pool Mock #1 (1 Viewer)

I'll be honest. I think most everybody did a really, really good job taking BPA or filling needs (or both).

Which means this is way too logical and the real draft will of course unfold nothing like this.

4th Round Draft Order: I don't think there were any trades of 4th round picks yet, if there were let me know, thank you.

97 Texans

98 Redskins

99 Falcons

100 Buccaneers

101 Jaguars

102 Browns

103 Raiders

104 Vikings

105 Bills

106 Rams

107 Lions

108 Titans

109 Giants

110 Jaguars

111 Jets

112 Dolphins

113 Bears

114 Steelers

115 Cowboys

116 Cardinals

Are we continuing after all? Not so sure I'd of traded Baltimore 3 since they have no 4 or 5. . . was just trying to win the mock. . .

Anybody want to take the Saints. I'll be out of pocket this weekend.

According to Daniel Jeremiah here are Texans top 3 needs.

1. Houston Texans

Record: 2-14
Team needs: QB, OT, safety
Analysis: I'm not convinced Case Keenum is the long-term answer at the QB position. I would be very surprised if they passed on the top signal-caller in this draft.

Another site lists the team needs in this order:

1. QB

2. RT

3. Rush Linebacker

4. Inside Linebacker

5. Cornerback

6. Safety

7. LG

8. DL depth

9. RB

So Linebacker is up there fairly high as a need.

Will go much higher than this.

The Steven Jackson era is almost over and the remainder on the roster can't carry the load.

Where do you see him going in the real NFL draft? I've been reading his measurables are not ideal, but makes up for it with instincts, fundamentals, and effort, and I'm normally drawn to these types on my fantasy teams. Who in the current NFL would be a decent comparison? I've seen some comparisons to Zach Thomas by some of the scouts, but I'm thinking current comparisons.

Borland should go to the Dolphins in the 2nd. Their LBs were atrocious against the run. And they could use some leadership, couldn't they?

Borland is fine but Washington still hasn't gotten a WR and I thought that was their most pressing need heading into this draft and they've passed up a ton of great WR prospects. Not sure who is left but if they come out of this draft without a WR I think they would be disappointed.

Redskins

-66. Washington - Bob Magaw

- CB Bradley Roby. OT JaWauan James

= LB Chris Borland

Thanks, Andy.

I would have deferred to you anyways. Good pick, Fletcher retiring I think, but even if doesn't, he is like in his mid-50s. :)

I wasn't planning on going past the third, and have STL, so would like to hand off WAS the rest of the way.

I think OL and front seven defenders the biggest. Orakpo expected to leave? Haslett still the DC.Doesn't help not having a first rounder, bad combination with lots of needs. Can't get everything. As noted earlier, minutes after taking Roby it was announced DeAngelo re-upped to a four extension. They took Amerson with their first pick in the second last year, so likely another position. I think OL, DL or pass rushing LB.

The defense was heinous. They didn't go 3-13 for nothing.

Offense should be better just with RG3 another year removed from the knee injury, and the healthier HC situation.

CIN had Green but otherwise a cast of thousands at WR2. Garçon may have led the league in receptions (?). And if TE Reed can stay on the field (scary concussion with six missed games), he is a tremendous receiving TE, IMO could have a huge year. The new OC was the TE coach and reportedly likes him a lot.

Wow. I hate to pick on anyone, but the Bucs are in a rough spot here.
Yeah, going QB/WR gave them limited options for picking up an OL or DE now. Could go all offense and grab another weapon like TE C.J. Fiedorwicz, but that would put them even further behind on developing their lines.

Anyone watch Christian Jones ILB Florida State this year? Could he start inside for the Bucs?
I heard him mentioned on a WAS site as a possibility there.

Doesn't TB have Mason Foster?
Foster isn't very good.

Bucs DC Leslie Frazier hinted the team may need to find a new middle linebacker, upgrading on Mason Foster.

Foster is an attacking linebacker who likes to get into the backfield. In the Bucs' new "Tampa-2" defense, the middle linebacker has to excel in coverage. Foster has struggled with that ever since being the 84th pick in the 2011 draft. He graded out in the bottom half of Pro Football Focus' inside linebacker rankings this past season. Lovie Smith will be looking for his next Brian Urlacher. Jan 17 - 12:40 PM

Here is what they say about Jones:

STRENGTHS: Tremendous athlete with has fluid footwork who flawlessly flips his hips to blanket tight ends or receivers down the field in coverage. Tall and long, which he uses well in coverage. Plays with excellent range and speed to chase down the action, taking proper angles in pursuit. Flashes the take-on strength to blow past blockers when he uses proper technique.

WEAKNESSES: Needs to improve his awareness to turn his head and find the ball. Length is advantageous, but at times will cause him to play too upright, and he needs to improve his overall leverage, especially on tackle attempts. Will get hung up on blocks at times.

Here is what they say about Smallwood:

A more fluid athlete than Stanford's Shayne Skov or Wisconsin's Chris Borland, NFLDraftScout.com's top-rated senior inside linebackers, Smallwood was asked to cover wide receivers as well as running backs for the Huskies, demonstrating the versatility to intrigue 3-4 and 4-3 defensive coordinators, alike.

STRENGTHS: Possesses a lanky frame more typical of an outside linebacker... Boasts long arms and impressive fluidity, allowing him to be just as effective in coverage as in supporting the run and attacking the passer. Good balance, agility and speed for the position. Uses his length and strength well to disengage from blocks and latch on to the shifty ball-carriers, showing the balance to adjust in space. Displays the toughness and energy to finish tackles, exploding into ball-carriers. One of Smallwood's most impressive characteristics is his ability to rush the quarterback. He "only" registered four in 2013 but his awareness and acceleration routinely resulted in big plays for teammates and he could be just scratching the surface of his potential in this area.

WEAKNESSES: Takes false steps, too often biting on play-action and getting himself out of position. Doesn't possess ideal muscular development (especially in his upper body) for the inside linebacker position. Flashes physicality but is more of a grab-and-drag tackler, rather than an intimidator in the middle.

COMPARES TO: Jerod Mayo, New England Patriots - Smallwood's length, flashes of physicality and athleticism is sure to intrigue scouts who could see him as a poor man's version of New England's star.

With the 101st pick in the 2014 NFL draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select RB Tre Mason.

With MJD looking like he'll play elsewhere and given that he is on the downside of his career, the Jags need to find a replacement.

I apologize for not being able to make the pick, but I would have grabbed him for the Pats in the 3rd if I was around. With Spikes on his way out I think he could step in immediately and fill his spot.

For fantasy purposes I think this would make Mason a top 3 dynasty rookie pick in drafts this season.

Would have taken Borland with the Steelers 4.97 compensatory pick.

1.15 Darqueze Dennard CB Mich St

2.46 Jordan Matthews WR Vanderbilt

3.97 Chris Borland ILB Wisconsin

It sounds like the Browns would like to upgrade the ILB position. D'Qwell struggled and Robertson was unspectacular. I would think either Yawin Smallwood or Shayne Skov possibly?

Yeah, if Soulfy3 can't make the pick then ILB is the last position of need and Skov seems the best option left so if anyone else wants to make the pick then go ahead but my vote would be:

ILB Shane Skov, Stanford

Jared Abbrederis by a landslide would be my vote.
He was already taken.

Noted above.

Mac, don't vote. You make the pick.

Its your call.

EDIT: Wait a second. Let me double check to make sure he wasn't already taken.

Yep, he was taken by the Bucs:

100 Buccaneers

- QB Johnny Manziel, WR Jared Abbrederis

= LB Christian Jones

Plus Cleveland already took Sammy Watkins in this draft. ILB seems like a no brainer at this point to me.

Give me five wrs, tough to cross reference on my phone. I'm sure one is better than Skov, who I like but not as much as this year's wr class.

Cleveland has a third wr?
