it's "your dog" vs "random stranger" so not sure you need a breed exception - you probably aren't owning a pit if it will sway your vote in the matter. "random dog" vs "random stranger" is a totally different discussion.Even given the proliferation of pit bulls? Maybe we could have a pit bull exception? I would save the dog unless it was a pit bull.
Wait, if we start qualifying matters and creating exceptions then we go down a slippery slope. Next someone will have the hot chick in yoga pants addendum where she get saved over any dog.
So it is. I had forgotten the original question. The Iguana said:it's "your dog" vs "random stranger" so not sure you need a breed exception - you probably aren't owning a pit if it will sway your vote in the matter. "random dog" vs "random stranger" is a totally different discussion.
I'd save this ham sandwich.TheIronSheik said:Honestly, at in 2019 and beyond, if the choice was a human or a ham sandwich, I'd save the ham sandwich. And I'm not supposed to eat pork.
This thread still pisses me off. Those of you voting dog had better be joking or else your heart is as hard as a rock.
For every person that's wronged you or that you just don't like there are hundreds of other people who are good and deserve to live. While a dog can be a great companion that can never compare to a father, son, daughter, mother, sister, brother, wife, husband or any other person who is of great value to you. Imagine someone letting your loved one die because they wanted to save their five year old Saint Bernard who growls at strangers. When the shoe was on the other foot this poll seems like a bunch of stupidity.
I love my dog, I literally dislike at least 50% of people.![]()
I get loving your dog as I am a dog owner too. I understand it would be a horrible decision to make. However, I don't get the joy people seem to get saying they would let another human die. Pretty disgusting.
We are talking about a strangerI love my dog, I literally dislike at least 50% of people.
Well then, I dislike 100% of strangers. We are talking about a stranger
Some ham sandwiches can be pretty good.TheIronSheik said:Honestly, at in 2019 and beyond, if the choice was a human or a ham sandwich, I'd save the ham sandwich. And I'm not supposed to eat pork.
I have an urge to eat one right now. I like mine with swiss cheese, spicy brown mustard, and caramelized onions on Russian Rye. For no particular reason I call it a Ned.Some ham sandwiches can be pretty good.

I just noticed the violation of TOS. Shocked
And you would have no issue with a stranger saving their dog over your friend/child/mother/father/sibling/etc.?I love my dog, I literally dislike at least 50% of people.
It's an even harder decision to make when your dog is also a jerkface.Angry Beavers said:I would save my dog and it would not be close.............
I would likely even save a strange dog over a strange person.. and that is only somewhat closer....
where is gets trickier is if it is someone know or love... then of course I need to save them.... unless they are a jerkface, in which case, I still save the dog
Moral of the story: Don't be a jerkface
You shut your whoremouth right now! No chance my dog is a jerkface. The cat on the other hand is a completely different story. It's an even harder decision to make when your dog is also a jerkface.
couldn't find the laughing so hard I can't breathe emoji. You shut your whoremouth right now! No chance my dog is a jerkface. The cat on the other hand is a completely different story.
welcome to 20 years ago. you made the right choice. What a cool question for a thread. My instinct was to absolutely save my dog first. Then I felt bad about myself for choosing a dog over a human. Then I accepted it. Id definitely save my dog first. I love my dogs.
You should type them all and we can pick the best one.I know it is supposed to be a light/funny thing, but this topic literally makes me sick to my stomach.
I've typed about 10 different posts ranging from gentle to scorched earth and should probably just walk away now.
I think what you miss is a person's dog is their responsibility. It's a commitment just as raising a child is (and before you get nutty I'm not equating some one's dog with some one's child),I know it is supposed to be a light/funny thing, but this topic literally makes me sick to my stomach.

I'm so glad this isn't one of those public polls. There are some things I just don't want to know.
I'd save my dog. I can always get a new stranger.
We had no wedding registry. Instead, we asked people to donate to one of three charities - two supporting the diseases which killed my parents (diabetes and cancer), and the humane society.I know it is supposed to be a light/funny thing, but this topic literally makes me sick to my stomach.

I like dogs, but don’t really care for how needy they can be. But anyone who’s had a pet can understand the emotional attachment you develop.I hate everybody else's dogs. But god I loved my dog. No way I wouldnt have saved her.
Convinced that the people saying stranger are mostly people like me that hate dogs, but never had the joy of one going crazy when your car turned in the driveway. Looking in the front window and seeing the dog popping in and out of view jumping up and down because she wanted to see me.
I agree, and is why there is value in discussing these types of hypothetical, perhaps even light-hearted, scenarios. In a high pressure, split second decision situation, I have the benefit of thinking this through rationally when emotions aren't ramped up, and I would like to think that work would pay off in the decision I would make at that point. Make no mistake, there would be doubts and guilt for me no matter what decision I made in that moment, but I firmly believe that saving the person is objectively the right answer (with the caveat and a nod to @AAABatteries point above that this is my own perspective based on my own worldview).I like dogs, but don’t really care for how needy they can be. In a high pressure, split second decision, those emotions would surely trump intellectualizing the value of human vs. animal life, at least for me.
Is that any relation to the Human Fund? I plan to make a donation in the name of FBG's this year as a Christmas gift to the message board.the human society.
Not a religious thing at all for me, and I own and love pets, but I guess I have a bigger separation between pet and human. The way I thought of it as I answered was I would be able to look into my family's eyes to tell them I had let the dog go to save somebody, but I couldn't do the opposite - tell a family that I couldn't get to their parent/kid/whatever because I saved my dog.I'm so glad this isn't one of those public polls. There are some things I just don't want to know.
Not looking to turn this in to a religious discussion but I think generally speaking the people who are shocked and disgusted by people choosing their dog view human life as sacred and that humans have a soul. It’s not surprising that some people just see humans as more evolved animals and wouldn’t see saving a human as some moral obligation.
I agree. I can't really believe people would choose a stranger over their dog.I know it is supposed to be a light/funny thing, but this topic literally makes me sick to my stomach.
