#9: AMADEUS

@Ilov80s #2 movie and my #26 movie. This was one of the 3 I was told to watch for the draft, and the one I liked the most. I will let him pimp it since it was in his top 5.

Ive heard so many great things about this movie. The internet has it on all its lists. I have never seen it. I think I started once and couldn't get into it. Will prolly need to go onto my 5

I quoted the Dazed and Confused line "Thats why I like High School girls. I get older and they stay the same age". My genZ kids explained to me I was being sexist and it was creepy talking about HS girls. Once my wife jumped on the band wagon, I knew I had lost.

I don't think that line has changed much. Wooderson - despite being good looking and charming is the kind of guy most teens strive not to be. Who is 16 and thinks, "when I'm 21 I hope I am still hanging out with the high school kids, hanging out at HS parties and hitting up the same old spots"? Most everyone I knew wanted to go somewhere else, do something new/bigger/better and chase college babes. I know there were a few HS girls that were dating older guys who had graduated a few years earlier (and not the kind who met in HS and stayed together). They were pretty unanimously hated and considered creeps and this was the 90s.

Its clear I dont gravitate towards movies. I mean, they are not on the list anymore. I'm still on board with watching 5 off the current 101 that I havnt seen.

I can be honest with myself though, my list is no oscar choice. I mean, when you have Going Bananas coming in at 177 but havnt seen Polyester or Raging Bull, or others ...

The best characters in that movie were the worst people. Wooderson and O'Bannion were in the best scenes, because they were losers you would see in high school.

They weren't role models (and speaking in movie quotes to the and kid....faux pas)

The role model was Pickford. Slid easily between stoners and jocks, sweet ride, supermodel girlfriend, a true renaissance man.

#11: FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH [prime]

80s' #14 and my #21. There's a couple comedies after thinking about them today I would probably have a little higher if I did the list today - this and our #8 (which I am going to watch tonight). This is the very rare example of seeing it a bit later in life and loving it more and more. So funny with so many quotes, but it also takes the time to address or observe other things in a realistic way.

Excellent movie, excellent flick.

I think a little of the plot falls apart toward the end. But I guess thats how relationships go. However, Spicoli and Mr Hand scenes were all time classics.

I don’t really see Fast Times as having a plot. It was essentially a high school year in the life of a bunch of teenagers. It didn’t need some big ending.

The plot is pretty HS specific - Dorks trying to get Laid. See Fast Times, SuperBad, Revenge of the Nerds, i could go on

NEEEEEEERRRRRRRDDDDZ!!!

if I'm not mistaken, this classic piece of cinema is not on the list yet, which leads me to the conclusion it did not make the cut.......I guess having bush wasn't enough...sigh

What I will say is that I watched it a couple nights ago and laughed more than I expected to.

I didn't see the "fruit punch IPA" part until putting it in the refrigerator before that I just saw it was a Voodoo Ranger I hadn't tried yet.

That said, it's surprisingly decent.

It cracks me up so much, and this 100% is a comedy that has only grown on me while others are duds. It just has so many odd beats, people in the background to laugh at, etc... that only reward repeat viewings. Plus now knowing that it was shot Curb Your Enthusiasm-style only adds to the hilarity.
