Top 101 Movies of the 90s. We are done. If I knock out Amadeus/Brazil/Ran, We get to have an 80s countdown!! (1 Viewer)

looks like ol' Manster didn't read the room ...
    On that note, let's get another KP special out of the way...

#45:  BOYS DON'T CRY

Another hard to watch, gut punch movie that I love but wrecks me every time I see it.   This is one that moved up a bit in my rankings with my rewatch last month.    Along with the acting and story, I really liked the dream-like direction from Pierce.

ETA:  This was my #13 movie.

Was really afraid this one would not go acknowledged.    Well deserved Top 50 spot, though an argument could be made for Top 25

i really love Swank ... think she brings a ton to the table - but i was so distracted by her Johnny Cade impersonation here that it took a bit away from the bigger picture.

i preferred the doc(s) instead.

Just for @Manster I will post another quickly for a palate cleanser.     I think this is the hardest I remember laughing in the theater.

44:  THERE'S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY

"How'd you get the beans above the frank??"    :lmao:

This was my #24 movie, and 80s #89 movie.   For me, this was the #2 comedy on my list.   My #1 I am on an island with, and will be coming up soon.

Because there are 2 ties coming up, I will post 4 more tonight in a bit and stop at #40.

Unless the peanut gallery is going to be around on a Friday night for drinks and ridicule, I can post more.

Now, I am not going to spoil how many or which ones, but I am just going to follow up my comment with Manster about the comedies.   Remember - I said I had my #1 comedy out there, but movies that we both had on our lists got the natural bump up into the top 40.    Let's just say we have more than 2 and less than 15 comedies left on the table.

i swear to all that is ####### holy in this COTdamn world ... if it's "Mister Saturday Night" im'ma hunt you down.

proceed accordingly.

:bye:
My joking bait comment about Bill Murray earlier could almost be truthfully applied to Billy Crystal.   Dude drives me nuts in 95% of movies I see him in.   When Harry Met Sally and Monsters, Inc are about his only vehicles that I would actively seek to watch again.

Best chick flick of all time

I like it around 50.  Great for what it is, but generally I rate the heavy/sad movies lower.  There's enough sadness in the world, I don't need to relive it in the movies I watch.

Didn't age well for me.  Not in my top 100.

There is, but not a ton that I experience, thankfully.   For me movies are a vehicle to experience a taste of these stories and experiences in the safety of our houses.   I don't read a ton anymore, and don't watch a lot of TV, so movies are where I get that fix.  Not saying I only watch Requiem of a Dream type movies, but I don't shy away from them and seem to give a high grade to flicks that can push those emotional buttons.  I want visceral reactions from great movies, not just something to kill time with.

Definitely an all-timer for me.....it prolly would crack my top 20 for the 90's

I am really happy to see love for Sling Blade. I was worried that one might go unappreciated. Also, I am 2 margs deep. Let's roll.

Looks like it's just us talking to each other right now.

The next 2 picks are our #12 picks.  Then 40 and 41 are our #11 movies.

Let's beast out the rest of this countdown!

Italicized movie quotes night!!
I am here for posting some more. Not sure if any other audience is around though so we may want to pace it. I can deliver some quotes though.

Name the movie (from this countdown)

Time? Bullsh!t! You corporate lackey! Who told you your incompetent little fingers had the requisite skills to edit me?

I was thinking about Trip's descriptions of our movie tastes and I would also say that while we both watch everything, 80s leans heavier into foreign and pre-70s movies than I do, and I watch a lot more horror than he does.

80s - did you see that Drive My Car was on HBO Max?
Yeah, I am hoping to hit it this weekend. I still need to see Coda and I want to watch WSS again now that it is streaming.

That is for def accurate.

80s KRISTA- did you see that Drive My Car was on HBO Max?

   As you know (I think), my favorite author.  Did you ever read the one you bought?

Also, I'm in for both italicized movie quotes and especially for Slingblade love.  Probably in my top 20 for the decade.

Whoa, I didn't know it was based on one of his works.   No, I didn't.  :bag:    Don't take offense, I don't think I've gotten all the way through more than 1-2 books since that conversation.   It is high up in the queue I am very slowly working through.

I saw that you liked After Life - is that one that you've seen?

I'm still reeling from at first sight... I have a guilty pleasure for rom/rom-com but that was a big turd burger for me

I have to warn you, I've heard relationships based on tense experiences never work.
I can picture it. I feel like I have watched this recently, feels like a rom-com but it's not one of the rom-coms we have ranked top 100

I thought that was meant for this thread.

I am glad I got somebody with that one, though a little mad that somebody thought that was my pick.

Technically they are both ours. The list is just a simple combo of our lists. It's just possible for a movie to only appear on 1 list but be rated so high that it surpasses movies both KP and I ranked.

If it makes you feel better, I read it and thought, "Wow, KP likes this - I should give it a shot."  Even though sometimes your taste is bad.

I did like After Life but not sure why I "liked" that one among others.  I might have just arrived in the thread and was calibrating my "like" button.
