One of my favorite sleepers this year, although he won't be rostered in small leagues is a $2 receiver.  I'm taking him everywhere except the one 12 team league I'm in this year.
I think your $2 receiver had a very good day today.

He did.

And I ended up taking a 3rd kicker and James instead :(  but I have him elsewhere.

Otoh, the move that started the domino effect was taking out allen for Evans and adding Eli Rogers.

So, have been working some crazy hours and only did 1 change to my rooster this year.  All in all, I see a deficiency, but fairly pleased with how week 1 worked out so far.  Here's the thinking.

Strategy

  1. No TEN/CLE players due to the week 13 bye (unless they are cheap)
  2. 3 Kickers and 3 Defenses.  The cheaper the better.  I do this every year.
  3. Front load the byes with the stud players. Approximately 60% of my rooster cost is in weeks 4-6 and 10%in weeks 10-13
  4. WR looked cheap, therefore play the stud TEs for Flex.
  5. Love Bennett this year.  Wanted him on the rooster, and at $9, I figure he could be Hernandez 2.0.
  6. Go with a bigger rooster.  Target size 26-28 players. Ended at 27 players.
  7. Brady is mad this year. Get him on the rooster.  He should be value-priced.
QB ($31 - 12.4% of rooster cost):

  1. Brady ($15) - For the price and having him down the stretch.  I liked it.
  2. Smith ($10) - Andy Reid makes QB look good.  He doesn't make a lot of mistakes and should serve for Brady's bye week, as well as for early in the season.
  3. Wentz ($6) - I'm an eagle fan.  For $6 bucks, he was going on my rooster.  Go Birds!
RB ($77 - 30.8% of rooster cost):

  1. Leveon Bell ($27) - Stud.  Steelers should be solid this year.  I like him down the stretch and hopefully will survive eliminations until he is back.
  2. Mark Ingram ($27) - Should be solid. Figure he should consistently get carries and a few catches from Brees.
  3. Spencer Ware ($8) - Figure GL back with Charles.  Should get me some scores and count a few weeks.
  4. Jerrick McKinnon ($8) - Figure heavy run with MIN and if Peterson wears down, may get some touches.  Looking back, wish I would have changed this.
  5. Christine Michael ($4) - Looked good in preseason.  What the hay.
  6. Alfred Morris ($3) - Good value with that Oline in Dallas.
WR ($69 - 27.6% of rooster cost):

  1. Mike Evans ($24) - I think he could be huge this year.
  2. Mike Crabtree ($15) - I believe Oak is playoff bound.  I like the #2 WR as a possession receiver.  Ideally should get double digits each week.
  3. Mike Thomas ($9) - Looked good in camp.  Brees likes him and likes to throw.  We'll see.
  4. Rishard Matthews ($6) - Broke the TEN rule here, but he had a bunch of receptions in the preseason.  Could surprise and not really relying on him week in and out.
  5. Mike Wallace ($5) - Training camp says he and Flacco have a nice raport going on.  Flacco has a big arm and Wallace still has speed.
  6. Chris Hogan ($5) - Maybe Brady will like this WR.  Who knows.
  7. Leonte Caroo ($3) - Big receiver in Miami, could surprise.
  8. Cody Latimer ($2) - Make or break year for him.  For $2 bucks, let's see what happens.
TE ($55 - 2% of rooster cost):

  1. Travis Kelce ($20) - I like him for at least 5-8 receptions a game.  Should be consistent week in and out.
  2. Zach Ertz ($18) - With Wentz starting, I like Ertz to get a ton of receptions this year.  Should be a consistent flex player.
  3. Michael Bennett ($9) - Brady loves his TEs and Bennett is a solid receiver.  I expect a good flex play here as well.
  4. Jared Cook ($8) - With Aaron Rodgers, if he shows up, he could find himself in a flex play occasionally.
3 Kickers (Jax, Buf, LA) - $9 (3.6%).

3 Defenses (NO, TB, DAL) - $9 (3.6%)

No Gronk

No Gordon

Still have Antonio Brown, Gurley, David Johnson to go & I'm up on the cut by almost 40.

Piece of cake! ;)

It's fun to keep tabs on these guys, but I have never understood why so many folks don't take the contest seriously.I guess I should be glad there are so many junk entries .Guess I shouldn't wonder I think I went out before quite a few of the junk entries last year.
I think the thinking is that these are people in states ineligible for prizes.

To my knowledge none of the 20+ kicker guys have ever identified themselves.

If Michigan ever makes it illegal I will let you guys know about my crazy entry, or I will move.  I haven't decided yet.

Quite the letdown to spend a month working on my roster and lose one of my top players in week 1.  Good chance I can advance deep still but that likely takes me out of any chance at finishing in the money.

Ouch huge week 1 cut number! I'm at 151 with 1 left at -6.5 but I'm not comfortable at this rate lol could be a short year never been cut before week 9 but not lovin it this year!

Get back to me when you're at 131 with one left - 5.6.

The good thing is that there won't be many Rams and Niners going.  Skins are probably thin.  Lots of Steelers.

21.25 above the cutline with Jessie James (-8.8) left.Never left the 1st week before. Hope for some low scoring games tonight.

21 above cut with no players left. I took a chance on Bell, Brady, and Gordon this year so I may be done before week 4.

I think the competition finally got strong in this contest.  Gronk missing week one is the only thing that gives me a ray of hope to advance this week.  When the cuts are real the next 2-3 weeks that won't be the case.

Good luck. I hope the 1 is a good one.
It's Antonio Brown so that's encouraging but he's 25.5% owned.  I do have Jessie James too but he'll help the the other 21.1% that own him long before he kicks in for me, so that's actually a negative.  Ownerships look low for two Monday night games.

I'm safe at over 165 so far with these guys left:

Cousins (-29.5)

DeAngelo Williams (-9.4)

Vance McDonald & Jesse James (-11.8 & -12.5)

My WR's were OK, but no one had a huge game, just 4 guys in the teens.  Ware was my top scorer so far.

Week 1 cut last year was 114.5

I agree - seems like there might be fewer "didn't understand the rules" junk entries this year.
Hard to say after 1 week. Odd games on the early slate yesterday. Very low scoring @ the half in most games, then a ridiculous explosion in the 2nd everywhere except Buffalo-Baltimore. Lots of fantasy points lots of places -- anticipated and unanticipated.
