2022 FBG Subscriber Contest is ON - Update - 1st place is $10k + $5k to food bank of their choice (2 Viewers)

The list below is compliments of @ZWK
I wanted to keep all 32 teams on here, so you could see how ZWK ranked them in terms of job security in May. All $3 kicker options are bolded and I will discuss each:

BAL
ATL
BUF
LV
LAC
KC
CAR - Based on this list, Zane Gonzalez is the safest cheap kicker and not losing his job without injury. But did that just happen? I don't plan on carrying a kicker with a known groin injury 2 weeks before kickoff. With limited $3 options, it sucks to see him carted off, and he is now on my DND list. I know it's minor, but he was the only $3 option with his bye week, so that made him a bit more valuable in my eyes.
CIN
SF
LAR
NE
PHI
NYG - This blows! I actually considered Graham Gano safer than Zane, but he is currently dealing with a concussion. The Giants have brought in recently released Ryan Santoso as a fill-in, but signs point to Gano being ready for week 1. He is still near the top of my cheapie kicker list, but I will have a talk with his doctor before I submit my final roster. Just like Zane, being the only week 9 cheapie was a bonus to me.
TB
ARI
CHI - If you asked me a week ago, I would've said Cairo Santos was my week 14 cheapie of choice. But times have changed, and I am willing to take a risk. See Blankenship below for further details.
MIA
WAS
DEN
TEN
PIT
HOU - The $3 dudes are dropping like flies! The Texans just signed Matt Ammendola because Ka'imi Fairbairn is dealing with an "undisclosed short term injury". I tried to find the nature of his injury online, but every entry is so cryptic, it's like some sort of HIPAA violation. Last year at this same time, Fairbairn suffered a groin injury and ended up missing the first 3 games of the season. For now, I am treating Fairbairn the same as Zane, and putting him on my Dungeons & Dragons list.
NO
CLE
MIN
GB
NYJ - I've yet to have Greg Zuerlein on any of my submissions. Sure, he beat out Eddy Pineiro, but simply saying "camp battle with Eddy Pineiro" doesn't give me a warm fuzzy. At least he is healthy at the moment, and that's more than I can say about many on this list.
IND - My golden rule is simply - Roster the 3 cheapest safest ones with different byes and move on. Well, the options are dwindling, and Rodrigo Blankenship has moved up the "safe" list, based both on his health and beating out the competition. I hate that he shares a bye with Santos, because gun to my head at the moment, I say Santos is the most likely $3 kicker to not miss any games.
JAC - We can move on, as there are no contest options on the Jaguars.

SEA
DET - Austin Seibert is appealing, but he is way down here for a reason. Gotta love being a dome kicker with an early bye though, and I would choose him over Fairbairn (also a week 6 bye) right now.
DAL
I do not understand why CLE is so low on this list. Yes, I realize Cade York is a rookie, but he was drafted in the 4th round! He has a monster leg. Even if he were to struggle a little, there is no way the Browns would pull the plug on this guy after investing a 4th round pick. I think his job security is pretty high for this season. He's a $4 kicker, so he doesn't fit the take the $3 guy philosophy. But if these $3 guys keep dropping...

Hate this contest. Even when I get it narrowed down to to rosters I really like i go back and forth between the two. One is lean at 21 players but I like the studs I have and the bye week distribution. The other swaps a couple of those studs out for a little more depth at 25 players and some slight overlapping of byes. Trying to thread the needle between injury risk and playing it safe is tough.

This is me in a nutshell...every year. In 5 separate years I've even paid for a second subscription just so I could go both ways. The only time it paid off was during Peyton's crazy record breaking year with Denver. I made the playoffs and finished in a little $.

Ok this is my final shot. Holes?

PK - Graham Gano - NYG/9 - $3
PK - Greg Zuerlein - NYJ/10 - $3
PK - Zane Gonzalez - CAR/13 - $3
TD - New York Giants - NYG/9 - $3
TD - Arizona Cardinals - ARI/13 - $3
TD - Tennessee Titans - TEN/6 - $3
unless theres something you love about this exact group i kinda prefer all my pk/td to have different bye weeks. this is actually a lot more achievable than it might seem at first glance.

Here is my current version. Thoughts? Mostly consistent with the approach I posted in the ‘150 word’ strategy thread. Week 9 is a bit more $ on bye than I like. I am also missing a cheap RB and I do usually like to have 6 RBs. So potentially going to swap Van Jefferson for 1 RB and 1 WR (both cheap $3-4)…. but will see if we hear anything more about his knee over next 10 days. I do like his price and upside. I realize I don’t have an LV connection for Carr. I had Renfrow but changed to JuJu

QB - Dak Prescott - DAL/9 - $17
QB - Derek Carr - LV/6 - $13
QB - Desmond Ridder - ATL/14 - $4
RB - James Conner - ARI/13 - $26
RB - Elijah Mitchell - SF/9 - $18
RB - Chase Edmonds - MIA/11 - $14
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10
RB - Khalil Herbert - CHI/14 - $9
WR - Courtland Sutton - DEN/9 - $19
WR - Marquise Brown - ARI/13 - $18
WR - JuJu Smith-Schuster - KC/8 - $15
WR - D.J. Chark - DET/6 - $7
WR - Van Jefferson - LAR/7 - $7
WR - Josh Palmer - LAC/8 - $6
WR - Jalen Tolbert - DAL/9 - $6
WR - Isaiah McKenzie - BUF/7 - $6
TE - Kyle Pitts - ATL/14 - $24
TE - Brevin Jordan - HOU/6 - $8
TE - Gerald Everett - LAC/8 - $8
PK - Austin Seibert - DET/6 - $3
PK - Rodrigo Blankenship - IND/14 - $3
PK - Greg Zuerlein - NYJ/10 - $3
TD - Minnesota Vikings - MIN/7 - $3
TD - Tennessee Titans - TEN/6 - $3

hmm interesting. Ive looked at bye weeks within a group of positions, but never really crossed with other positions.

So as we start to get closer to lock, anyone have any good ideas on how we can do some sort of live scoring each week? @Joe Bryant or @Contest Turk will there be anything within the contest itself that does live scoring or are we just working something outside of it?

@kyter1 I know you won't be able to do it, but any suggestions on how one of us could do a live scoring spreadsheet like you did last year? I really don't know all the ins and outs of how you put it together but I would be willing to learn..
It really sucks, I'm just not going to have time. I had fun with it last year.

I probably have about 60% or more done. You'll need to have 'Spyder' application to run a python query (already built just needs to be updated). If anyone is interest I'll try to do a better job outlining what is needed than what I did below.

High-Level what else has to happen is someone has to create a account at one of the FF Sites (won't name here) and set up the scoring and load all the players to a team, update my files with the 2022 information from that League site (gets the live scoring), get the players from the contest and map them with the player API out so you have a base player table. Once all the team are set you'll need to the full roster of contest teams and put them into one of my existing files.

During the games you'll refresh the base table to get the Live API and then run the Python script to create an output with the scores. Each week, you'll need to drop all the eliminated team (I meant to create a flag last year and didn't get to it). If you can create a flag you could technically keep the eliminated ones and show how they would have done each week along the cut line.
Kyter, I am old, but not afraid of the grunt work. It sounds like creating a league, setting up the scoring, and loading all the players is something that can be done now, right? I mean, we already have a complete list of contest players. Please advise, and if so, I will get it started.

Remember, @ZWK created his order back in May, and that is the likely reason CLE is so low.

if injuries to KICKERS make me have to reshuffle my roster all over again just to find $1 extra, I’m gonna be pissed ;)
We seem to quickly be running out of $3 safe options. It's kind of forcing us to either spend more money, or roster the riskier guys.

This one has a lot that I like but a few things that are less than ideal based on the wisdom more experienced folks have generously shared here.

3 @QB for $36 - a little high but I like this group
QB - Trey Lance - SF/9 - $15
QB - Trevor Lawrence - JAX/11 - $11
QB - Matt Ryan - IND/14 - $10

5@RB for $85 - I think all 5 are strong but wish I had a little more depth
RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/9 - $26
RB - Cam Akers - LAR/7 - $20
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/10 - $15
RB - Chase Edmonds - MIA/11 - $14
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10

6@WR for $87 tried to pack this with mid-range guys in good situations. Pickens is a bit of a dart throw.
WR - Adam Thielen - MIN/7 - $17
WR - Amon-Ra St. Brown - DET/6 - $17
WR - Christian Kirk - JAX/11 - $16
WR - Rashod Bateman - BAL/10 - $16
WR - Drake London - ATL/14 - $15
WR - George Pickens - PIT/9 - $6

3@TE for $23 a little low in cash allocation and strength but wanted to keep 3
TE - David Njoku - CLE/9 - $9
TE - Hayden Hurst - CIN/10 - $8
TE - Mo Alie-Cox - IND/14 - $6

PK - Graham Gano - NYG/9 - $3
PK - Austin Seibert - DET/6 - $3
PK - Rodrigo Blankenship - IND/14 - $3

TD - Baltimore Ravens - BAL/10 - $4
TD - Minnesota Vikings - MIN/7 - $3
TD - Detroit Lions - DET/6 - $3
Pretty good. I think ok to spend that on QBs with 6 points per passing TD. One thought would be to pay up for TE by combining Njoku and Hurst to get Kittle. (Then you have a connection with Lance). You’d also have to find a buck, probably from your D. I know there is a lot of opinions on 2 vs 3 Ds and I’m for just 2. The position has such low scoring and very rarely in double figures. And cant get injured. And if you go with 2 D you can still get a cheap 3rd TE (maybe take shot for one from TB). Or have 3 - $3 D.

You said you would like to have one more cheap RB. Have you considered using the $4 spent on Ridder? I consider Dak/Derek a strong 1-2 punch.

My latest is not too different. I do have 6 RB but only 5 WR. What is your thinking on the RB/WR count? You mention liking to have 6 RB but at the low end of the price range is there really value in what would often be no scoring guys weather they are WR or RB. You have $32 invested in 5 low cost WR. I would assume most weeks your WR 1 & 2 scores will be from your top 3 guys. Would a $17- $20 guy plus a $12- $15 guy provide a better chance? There are some WR1s and 2s at that price as opposed to the WR3/4 on your list (other than Chark).

First time playing this contest so really just trying to figure it out. Your take on the two TD is very interesting as well.

My latest. A little more top end oomph across the board. Week 9 looks deadly though.
QB - Dak Prescott - DAL/9 - $17

Weekly Lineup also includes 2 flex and I aim for at least 1 of those to typically be a WR so that influences my roster/position count. (In other words I will go with 7-8 WRs as I presume 3 will start each week). And when considering byes I’d never want less than like 12 RB/WR/TE to fill those 7 lineup spots.

Good idea, I may combine 2 of my low WR guys to get someone $12-14 (usually there are some gems and duds that come from this price zone but hard to pick which is which!)

But in all seriousness, here's where I'm actually at @TheWinz

I'm playing around with only 4 RBs (with different bye weeks of course) since we seem to kind of have a freebie RB2 in Pierce and likely a freebie RB3 in Robinson. Having 2 such undervalued players, would that mean the risk in running with 4 significantly decreases?

QB - Kirk Cousins - MIN/7 - $14
QB - Derek Carr - LV/6 - $13
RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/9 - $26
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/10 - $15
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10

I haven’t done as much analysis as others on the 2 vs 3 Def and I am not saying that 3 won’t score more than 2. Most likely will. But will it be enough and at times that matter to have spent more money. I don’t know. And true that wherever else you spend that money may not payback. I checked last year scoring based on the 3 teams you have in your current roster including the associated three 2 team combos you could make from those 3 teams. There was only 2 or 3 weeks (for each 2 team combo) with much difference (lost more than 4 points) vs the 3 team combo.

Good luck in your first year!

I thought I was done but I think I'm going to have to go back to the old drawing board. I wanted a team that could score on avg 180+ per week. So I went back and checked my players avg scores. This team has a snowballs chance in Florida of getting within sniffing distance of that unless there's a strong downwind. I know it's not scientific but was a reality check.

Any issues at all? All K and D (all 6 combined) are on different bye weeks. Nor RB Bye week issues. Only 1 WR bye week issue.

Player Byes:
QB: 6, 7
RB 6, 9, 10, 11, 14
WR: 6, 7, 9, 9, 13
TE: 9, 10
PK: 6, 9, 14
DEF: 7, 11, 13
Strong lineup. Week 9 scares me the most here simply because the Top RB, WR and a stud TE all off the same week. Wouldn’t be as concerned if you didn’t have 3 of your top contributors out the same week.

True. I just would love to see the breakdown though. 9 is so hard for everyone, I feel like the cut line will be very low that week. You make a good point though.

I'm hoping that in week 9 my matchups will be okay and look fairly favourable.

Cousins @ Washington
Carr @ Jacksonville

Etienne vs Las Vegas
Rhamondre vs Indy
Pierce vs Philly
Commanders vs Minnesota

QB - Kirk Cousins - MIN/7 - $14
QB - Derek Carr - LV/6 - $13
Great combo. Have the same and explained why in my lineup post.

RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/9 - $26
RB - Travis Etienne - JAX/11 - $22
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/10 - $15
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10
RB - Brian Robinson - WAS/14 - $7
Hitched your wagon to Barkley. He’s a stud. The rest are solid picks, but curious about your take for their roles. I think you will easily maintain a high floor here but where is the ceiling? For giggles, try a 4 RB group that’ll take the top off your max production.

WR - Courtland Sutton - DEN/9 - $19
WR - Gabriel Davis - BUF/7 - $19
WR - Marquise Brown - ARI/13 - $18
WR - Amon-Ra St. Brown - DET/6 - $17
WR - George Pickens - PIT/9 - $6
High on Sutton. Pickens is a nice high upside pick with multiple TD weeks which is great for a 5th WR. Middle 3 should easily keep your weekly floor high.

TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/10 - $28
TE - Dalton Schultz - DAL/9 - $18
Love this duo! Both should count most weeks.

PK - Graham Gano - NYG/9 - $3
PK - Austin Seibert - DET/6 - $3

Already mentioned the week 9 bye concern, but you’ve analyzed the matchups. If you feel they’ll get you through, that’s awesome. Every team carries risk to make it.

I took a week 9 Def off to make a small adjustment haha. Pickens is kind of an auto pick for me. Schultz I can live without as I have andrews. The only real way to fix my week 9 issue then is to move off of barkley or sutton which I dont think at this point I feel like I can do.

I could not even make it to week 9 too, so I don't want to focus too much on a week that is going to kill other people too.

I also think a lot of people who may not have that heavy week 9 load, might be rostering lots of week 14 bye players (lots of teams on bye that week and I only really have 1 kicker and my rb5 on bye that week. That's the week that counts and can get you into the money.

welp, that solves the week 9 issue:

QB - Joe Burrow - CIN/10 - $21
QB - Matt Ryan - IND/14 - $10
QB - Kenny Pickett - PIT/9 - $3
RB - Aaron Jones - GB/14 - $27
RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/9 - $26

TE - Dalton Schultz - DAL/9 - $18
TE - Mo Alie-Cox - IND/14 - $6
TE - Harrison Bryant - CLE/9 - $5
PK - Cade York - CLE/9 - $4
PK - Austin Seibert - DET/6 - $3
PK - Rodrigo Blankenship - IND/14 - $3
TD - Baltimore Ravens - BAL/10 - $4
TD - Minnesota Vikings - MIN/7 - $3

Ok I think this is it.

QB - Josh Allen - 25
QB - Davis Mills - 7

So Im hoping that Allen gets me 20+ every week and that in week 7 Mills can have the same kind of game he had against N.E. last season. Could be doable Raider D not the best.
Of course need Allen injury free otherwise stick a fork in this team it will be done.

RB - Derrick Henry - 31
RB - Nick Chubb - 24

Going to need close to 20 each week from these two

RB - Ezekiel Elliott - 23

Hopefully he is a flex each week 15 to 17 points

RB - Dameon Pierce - 10

Gratuitous Pierce pick

RB - Rachaad White - 8

Trying to be different than everyone else

WR - Robert Woods - 17
WR - Adam Thielen - 17

Again depending on these two for some premier games hopefully a couple of 20 point games at least high teens.

WR - Parris Campbell - 7
WR - Van Jefferson - 7
WR - Isaiah McKenzie - 6
WR - A.J. Green - 4

With these 4 maybe I get them to count once or twice

TE - Mark Andrews - 28
TE - Darren Waller - 21

Come on Mark replay of last year please.
Waller is going to be my second flex I hope with 18-20 points a week please.

So what do you guys think? Close or no cigar?

PK - Rodrigo Blankenship - 3
PK - Cairo Santos - 3
PK - Greg Zuerlein - 3
TD - Minnesota Vikings - 3
TD - Jacksonville Jaguars - 3
Total value: 250

I mean, you still have some big players on week 9 byes but I think you're okay there. My concern is all your week 14 byes.... you're setting yourself up for such a great run, then such a let own when you don't make it into the top 250 after week 14

@TheWinz here is the team with byes and minus the insight. I'm not as good at that as you guys.

I thought the same thing. Then I thought, hell if I make it to week 14, I'd be pretty stoked!

Here's where I'm at generally speaking at this early point in the process....

QB - Jalen Hurts - PHI/7 - $19
QB - Mac Jones - NE/10 - $10

is this real???
LOL. That was my first iteration. I'm now on my final iteration pending injury updates til lock. I post final hours before lock (despite the fact that the lock is "leaky").

Speaking of which @ContestTurk will the lock be a hard lock this year or will it leak over until the next morning?

Looking deeper:

Week 9:
QB- Burrow
RB - Aaron Jones
RB - Miles Sanders :ponder:
WR - AJ Brown
WR - Amon-Ra
FLX - Damien Harris /Brian Robinson 🎲
FLX - Allen Lazard / Isiah McKenzie 🎲
TE - Mo-Alie Cox / Harrison Bryant :cautious:
PK - Seibert / Rodrigo!
TD - Ravens/Vikes

Week 14:
QB - Burrow
RB - Saquon
RB - Jones
WR - AJ Brown
WR - Courtland
FLX - Miles Sanders / Damien Harris 🎲
FLX - Amon-Ra / Isiah McKenzie 🎲
TE - Dalton Schultz
PK - York / Seibert
TD - Ravens/Vikes

Which is the better option? Carter would be RB3. Robinson would be RB4 and Cobb would be WR8. On paper, I'm supposed to take W Robinson or D Peoples-Jones over Cobb but....

RB - Michael Carter - NYJ/10 - $12

or

RB - Brian Robinson - WAS/14 - $7

WR - Randall Cobb - GB/14 - $5

I'd take Cobb over Wan'Dale or Peoples-Jones. You know Rodgers trusts him and the target share is available w/ Adams gone. He had 5 TD on 39 targets last year! So Aaron is looking for him the red zone. Plus do you want Rodgers throwing to your WR or Daniel Jones/Jacoby Brissett?

Robinson is a dice roll - If he can take over Gibson's role he is worth it even with Mckissic lurking. Cartter may get a decent RB 2 share but still would roll with Robinson

This puts the body count back up to 23. Although RB7 - Chubba Hubbard - is only a $3 insurance policy which only pays off if CMC gets hurt again. @TheWinz Cousins/Carr QB combo is such a compelling value play that I think it is better than the Burrows/old man Matty Ice boom or bust risk. Add in the $3 Pickett, who if he shows out again today should be the Pitt starter week 1 and I really like it.

Also this line up seems to avoid both the week 9 and week 14 open manhole issue. TE is thin after Waller and, spirit of Weeb Eubank, help me, I rostered a Jet.

QB - Kirk Cousins - MIN/7 - $14
QB - Derek Carr - LV/6 - $13
QB - Kenny Pickett - PIT/9 - $3
RB - James Conner - ARI/13 - $26
RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/9 - $26
RB - Chase Edmonds - MIA/11 - $14
RB - Kenneth Gainwell - PHI/7 - $11
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10
RB - Brian Robinson - WAS/14 - $7
RB - Chuba Hubbard - CAR/13 - $3
WR - A.J. Brown - PHI/7 - $23
WR - Courtland Sutton - DEN/9 - $19
WR - Amon-Ra St. Brown - DET/6 - $17
WR - Allen Lazard - GB/14 - $12

TE - Kyle Rudolph - TB/11 - $3

When comparing options sometimes I like to think about if i’m needing/looking more for the help early or late season. My view this one is neutral early (or slight Carter) vs you get Robinson late season upside (I think Carter will lose touches later though also I would not count on much from Cobb second half of season).

@Joe Bryant I'm noticing all your marketing/promotion of the contest. I think you are doing well at following through on what you said you wanted to accomplish. Given all the people that say they subscribe solely for this contest, I think you were very wise to listen to this feedback and try to get more people hooked on this contest.

Thanks GB. It'll be interesting to see if it has any effect. Still less than 4,000 entries into the contest but I know tons wait till the very end. We'll see!

So, this thread has been active just over 2 months, and 78 people have posted in it (I think around 5 of them are staffers). I don't know how many lurkers have come here and not posted anything, but looks like around 2% of the entries so far have posted here.
