Kyrie with a torn ACL. Oof.
Did this trade make them better for this season? No. But did it make them younger? No. But did it make them better for future seasons? Also no. But now they aren’t as injury prone? [puts hand on shoulder]Kyrie with a torn ACL. Oof.
This gives Nico an out on the season. There was never a good basketball reason for the trade, nor was there any indication he negotiated the best deal available once the decision was made, but there was a plausible way forward for the season if not for the injuries.

They aren't going to be in a better situation next season - Irving has a player option which I assume he'll be picking up unless they give him an enticing new contract for more years. Players have been returning from ACL injuries in around 12 months for the last few years, even if he returns quickly, it's around mid-season and would probably take 20+ games to get back to a similar place as he was but he'll also be nearly 34 years old. This iteration of the Mavs is done before it ever started.Kyrie with a torn ACL. Oof.

Memphis- Houston is number one with a bulletRealistic 1st round match-ups I'd pick to see if I could control it:
East
(1)Cle vs. (8)Atl - Playoff Trae Young is usually pretty fun. Almost picked Orlando, but their offense is too gross now for me to really care.
(2)Bos vs. (7)Mia - Maybe muted now somewhat since Jimmy is gone, but Spoelstra should at least make them somewhat feisty.
(3)NYK vs (6)Ind - Seems like there's some bad blood there from last years playoffs.
(4)Mil vs (5)Det - Old guard vs the new guard? Mostly I just wanted to see NYK/Ind so this is what has to happen. The Kuzma/Tobias match-up could be one for the ages.
West
(1)OKC vs (8)Dal - Wanna see Nico Harrison and the Mavs get booed off the court for 2 games.
(2)Den vs (7)Min - Rematch of maybe the best series in last years playoffs.
(3)LAL vs (6)GS - Lebron/Luka vs Steph/Jimmy???
(4)Mem vs (5)Hou - There already seems to be a ton of bad blood there.

February 12th - SMU student section chants "Fire Nico" with Harrison in attendance
February 15th - Mavs assistant Darrell Armstrong arrested for aggravated assault
February 21st - the infamous Mavs music video with players edited out
February 21st - Dirk talks for first time, to the Ticket, and talks about how 'weird' all of this has been
February 25th - Luka makes debut against Mavs and leads Lakers to a victory with a triple-double
February 28th - New Luka Doncic mural unveiled in Dallas
March 1st - Quentin Grimes scores 44 points for the 76ers

What is wrong with the Rockets? They feel like a team that is tanking for ping pong balls, not a team that is battling for playoff position.

Which is the PERFECT time to do this:
DALLAS (AP) — The Dallas Mavericks revealed on Monday that they are raising season ticket prices for next season, just weeks after dealing star Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers.
The Mavericks said season tickets will go up by an average of 8.61% next season and the increase is due to “ongoing investments in the team and fan engagement.”
LeBron scores the 50,000 point of his careerLakers are 16-3 in their last 19 with their 3 losses against Philly, Charlotte, and Utah. So you know what’ll happen against NO tonight.

Dallas is a pretty big gut punch for that fan base. Phoenix and Philly at least misguidedly tried, it just blew up in their faces horribly. But to willingly trade a 25-year-old top 5 (conservatively) asset in the NBA for a 31-year-old walking injury? I mean to trade him for anything really, barring an actual trade request, it just never, ever happens. How do you ever trust your franchise again after that? It's honestly pretty impressive how ****ty Phoenix is.
What franchise has it worse?
Dallas
Phoenix
Philly
I think you could make an argument for all 3.
What James is doing at his age is just insane, and how the sports media treats him just proves what he said last week is totally true. When Tom Brady was still playing at a high level in his 40s, most NFL analysts were praising him at nearly every opportunity. When LeBron James does it, many NBA talking heads either don't mention it or downplay it. A buddy sent me a clip the other day of Shannon Sharpe saying to Screaming A. Smith, "Look at what LeBron James is doing at age 40," and Smith replied, "So what?" So disrespectful, and the Screaming One is just one of many like that.Graphic they just showed on the Lakers telecast:
Seasons - NOP 23, LeBron 22
Reg Season wins - NOP 848, LeBron 1.000
Playoff wins - NOP 22, LeBron 183
Crazy

Poor Lebron. Sending my thoughts and prayers.
i think dallas fans have it the worst because they watched the team rebuild around a star and it is a team that has made relatively normal moves and just tried to get better the right way all of the sudden have a crazy trade of the teams biggest asset for a guy who is immediately injured and then have their second super star get hurt it just is awful and i cant imagine it would be like the bucks trading anteater for jimmy butler and then having dame get hurt the next day next worse is phoenix fans because they tried to assemble a super team that has a ton of good parts but just doesnt work well together and they basically did what they were supposed to do and it just didnt work last is philly they lost on purpose for years had fans defending a year long tanking process and as far as i am concerned that team can be cursed until the end of time for losing on purpose take that to the bank bromigosIt's honestly pretty impressive how ****ty Phoenix is.

Maybe folks are tuning in to different people than I am. Almost every outlet and commentator I come across goes cookoo for Cocoa Puffs over LBJ. They rave about him all the time, spending more time on him than the rest of the league combined. I saw chatter the other day that he should be MVP this year and the Lakers are going to the Finals. Sure, I am sure there are detractors, but most of the people I see are giving him mad props (and then the discussion often turns to whether he is the GOAT or not). What James is doing at his age is just insane, and how the sports media treats him just proves what he said last week is totally true. I saw someone else say this but it is innacurate. At least overall stats. He only has more rebounds and assists, everything else is below his MVP season. His per 36 numbers are probably better in some of these categories though.Too lazy to go back and find the exact numbers, but LeBron is averaging better overall stats since turning 40 than he did in his 2012-2013 MVP season - slightly lower points, better rebounds, assists, FG%, and 3P%.

These teams don't care about us. I love the Pistons, but the last 15 years they haven't gotten a dime from me. I am about ready to spend some money on them again.

I don't think the Blazers are there yet but I will take a small piece of Portland +10. If you haven't seen them and they play the way they did against Cleveland, they're a fun team to watch right now.

And I'm telling you guys, if you haven't seen Toumani Camara play, that dude is whole can of whoopassss. Defensive Player on the Month! And yes, that's big news here, we don't have many nice things.
I'm excited to watch them play for the first time in a long time and it feels....refreshing?
