2024 Summer of Soccer - Euro's, Copa America, Olympics, WCQing (2 Viewers)

You have to go all the way back to 1986 to find a knock out round game in a major tournament (Euro/WC) where England did not register a shot on net in the first half.

so what does GGG do tomorrow?

Start Haji on the left and Pulisic on the right?

Go with MMA midfield and move Gio up to the right?

MMA and Haji with Gio on bench?
It’s not what I’m hoping for, but my guess is we get the same lineup as last game but Aaronson for Weah.

75th minute and still not a shot on goal for England. Jesus

It looks like the Slovak goal is the only shot on goal in this game through 75 minutes.

I planned to do some work this morning as this looked likely to be the most boring game of the weekend "on paper" and it has not disappointed in that regard. Looking forward to Spain v Georgia though.

Great goal by Bellingham - but Slovakia have not tried to do anything all half - they lost this, more than England have come back (and will probably go on and win),

I don't see how any way Slovakia survive extra time. But Slovakia had multiple chances to kill off time and they refused to do it.

Fantastic goal in any case.

England is going to have to play significantly better against Switzerland. This Slovakia team is all grit but very very little talent.

Unreal. These smaller nations need to learn how to kill a game off.
I agree, Slovakia did nothing in the second half. Only if that long midfield shot had gone in. sigh.

At this point, I don't see England losing this game, but who knows.

England are such a candidate for the 2016 Portugal “look like **** and somehow wi. The tournament” award.
I mean with the draw they have, they still have to be favored to make the finals. They can't possibly keep playing this bad.

Probably true but I think some of us are maybe overstating the good v bad side of the bracket thing just due to expectations and history. On form, Switzerland and Austria have been impressive. I could see an "Alpine semifinal" fully deserved. Germany is playing up to expectations and Spain have been fantastic but France, Belgium, Portugal haven't shown much yet.

I love that his co-hosts have given up pretending to tolerate Lalas, and joined the rest of us with undisguised dislike.
I think I’ve told this story on here before, but Lalas will always be likable to me ever since I was at a soccer camp when I was like 9 or 10 or something and he, without any fanfare or obligation thereto, spent like an hour teaching me how to properly take a header. He was truly very kind.
