England will be pleased with that first half, considering the players only met for the first time this afternoon, had never trained together and didn't have time for a tactical talk before kickoff. Top tip for 2nd half: maybe someone could move off the ball? #ENGSLO 0-0
We should all root for England to suck because England fans are so great at being angry about it.
It's not hard to root against England, that's for sure.

I have no understanding how England's offense can be this bad.

No matter what the coach does, there is no way a team this loaded with talent should have one of the worst xG's in the entire tournament.

It would be one thing if they were just snake bitten with finishing, that happens, but the lack of creating good chances has been so hard all three games so far.

If England win, and Serbia doesn’t, Hungary advance. Correct?
I don't think all the 3rd place teams will be sorted out until tomorrow's games are complete.
Not sorted, but 4 3rd places finishers advance. If England win, Hungary will be above 2 of the 3rd place finishers and progress to the knock outs I believe.

I also think Croatia are eliminated minus a miracle.

In the first half, the announcers pointed out Foden has more completed passes this entire tournament to his keeper (2) than he does to Kane (1).

How is the Denmark - Slovenia tie broken?
"So apparently if things stay as is in Group C, Denmark would finish ahead of Slovenia due to finishing in a higher position in qualifying than SloveniaWhat makes it funnier is that Denmark & Slovenia were in the same qualifying group where once again they finished level on pts"

Here are the tie breakers. It had to go down to #9 to solve Denmark - Solvenia

====================

Tiebreakers

If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of the group matches, the following tie-breaking criteria are applied:[82]

  1. Higher number of points obtained in the matches played between the teams in question;
  2. Superior goal difference resulting from the matches played between the teams in question;
  3. Higher number of goals scored in the matches played between the teams in question;
  4. If, after having applied criteria 1 to 3, teams still have an equal ranking, criteria 1 to 3 are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the teams who are still level to determine their final rankings.[a] If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria 5 to 9 will apply;
  5. Superior goal difference in all group matches;
  6. Higher number of goals scored in all group matches;
  7. If on the last round of the group stage, two teams who are facing each other are tied in points, goal difference and goals scored then they drew their match, their ranking is determined by a penalty shoot-out. (This criterion is not used if more than two teams had the same number of points.);
  8. Lower disciplinary points total in all group matches (1 point for a single yellow card, 3 points for a red card regardless whether it was a direct red card or two yellow cards, 4 points for a yellow card followed by a direct red card);
  9. Higher position in the European Qualifiers overall ranking, unless the comparison involves host Germany, in which case a drawing of lots will take place.

I know he would not have played but seeing the England left back depth, could Jedi have made this team?

I think he definitely plays for this team if not starts. Trippier is lost on the left. I think Pulisic likely also starts for Croatia in this alternate universe.

The problem isn't just that Trippier is out of position, it's that the opposition knows that Foden will cut in every time as well. Squad needed Mitchell assuming he wasn't injured like Chilly and I didn't notice

How could Croatia go through? Isn't this all figured out now? Of the 3rd place teams:

- Hungary 3

- Croatia 2 ❌

- Slovenia 3 ✅

- Netherlands 4 ✅

- 3rd place group E 3 (but they should go through based on goal differential. Almost impossible for 3rd place to not go through from this group. Ukraine is only team that might realistically have a lower goal differential than Hungary, and if they end up in 3rd place, it will be because of a win/tie which puts them above Hungary anyways) ✅

- 3rd place group F (1, 2, or 4 points)

If Southgate were going based on form, then he would've been the starter. Trippier and Shaw didn't have their best years and Ben Chillwell was hurt all year. Jedi literally WAS the best English born LB this year going on form alone.

How is the Denmark - Slovenia tie broken?
Number of bookings - crazy
really? damn that's wild.

Apparently they were booked the same number of times lol
Slovenia had one more yellow card which is why Denmark finished second.
Didn't they both have 6?
I see it as 6 each, which means it falls to #9 on the list and is still Denmark over Slovenia.

Austria won the group???

France finish second having scored two goals in three games, an own goal and a penalty.
Netherlands seem to have a decent shot at advancing from third place but we'll need @QuizGuy66 to run the numbers.

Netherlands are through with their 4 points.

Denmark place 2nd in Group C. They are in a total flat-footed tie with Slovenia even on discipline points but get placed 2nd based on higher Euro Qualifying (Pot 2 vs Pot 3 for Slovenia).

Slovenia's very convenient 0-0 draw means they are through as top-4 3rd place team ahead of Hungary bc of goal differential. It was a mutually convenient draw - England drawing would put them no worse than 2nd in the group and since the other game drew they actually finish first.

The 0-0 draws were convenient for all but Eliminated Serbia.

yes, I misspoke. The yellow Slovenia picked up today is what ultimately made them lose out on second place.

Third Place

Netherlands has 4 points
Slovenia and Hungary have 3 points
Croatia has 2
all have played their 3 matches.

E Slovakia has 3 with a match to go. At a minimum third place in E will have 3.
F Czechia has 1 with a match to go. Third here will have 1 to 4.

Croatia can't finish in the top four, so eliminated.

"Convenient" maybe in terms of getting through but England really had to win today or risk playing its next game against Germany (which Denmark now must do as they finished second in the group.) They got lucky that Denmark drew with Serbia. The irony perhaps is that by winning the group England get a third place finisher from group D or E, which could be the Netherlands who finished third in D. I'm not sure how that's decided but it seems Netherlands could be a more difficult third place team than one might expect.

The poor line judge who is on the sun side had a heat stroke
On TV it was extremely noticeable that the sunny side was significantly less full than the other sections. Did people not buy those seats or did they just seek out shade some where during the game?
