Heard some discussion on this yesterday afternoon. Mostly around Canada winning with Uruguay not caring and not being at full strength due to suspensions and in several years Canada can say "Remember when we took 3rd at the Copa?"They used unusually strong wording in the initial press release almost certainly seeming to guarantee some one is going to get severely punished.Expect an announcement after the final?CONMEBOL has opened an investigation in to the in stands fight after the Uruguay Colombia game.
It will involve a bunch of interviews I assume with whom ever is they can find (this is the hard part. They will probably be able to talk to the Uruguayan families easier than some random Colombian fan who probably drove in from another state).
I have no idea how long it will take unless the camera's give them all they need (which I doubt since families are involved)
I assume there are sponsorship deals in place but I really don't enjoy the 3rd place games in these tournaments.Heard some discussion on this yesterday afternoon. Heck, It might be in Uruguay's best interest to offer to suspend the couple players for this 3rd place game in exchange for nothing further. Assuming they feel there will be some punishment despite the extenuating circumstances. Want to minimize the effect on WC Qualifying games in the future.
I don't either. Don't really see the need when there are so many games all year already. And me.Heard this morning on SiriusXM FC in regard to the Harry Kane PK:
No one in the world thought it was a PK except the refs, VAR, and Landon Donovan.

Yeah, I get the LD joke but I would assume if you could somehow remove bias or reenact the play with AI that you would see something like 30-50% would say penalty.

Yes. Saka's handball right before the shot that should have made all of this moot anywayI understand the PK, but like many don't agree with it.Heard this morning on SiriusXM FC in regard to the Harry Kane PK:

What is a defender supposed to do there? Not try to win the ball? Acquiesce meekly and just let the forward shoot without defending?
I haven't watched it over and over, but I recall Kane winning the shot and then kicking the defender with his follow through., not the defender kicking Harry while he was shooting. I don't care if the defenders boot was high...so was Harry's.
Did I miss something else?

Its funny - because Spurs had the opposite issue this season.
Romero cleared a ball in the box, follow through caught the opposing player on the shin - and it was a red card and Pen against Romero.
Here you get Kane who hits a defender on his follow through - and he get the pen, and the defender gets the card.

URUGUAY DEVELOPMENT
Around 8:00 p.m., AUF received the documents that have the 11 names of the players who participated in the final episodes for CONMEBOL.
The documents contain the names, number in the competition and the cause attributed to them for the purposes of dealing with the sanctions to be determined.
The 11 players are:
02, José María Gimenez
03, Sebastian Caceres
04, Ronald Araujo
06, Rodrigo Bentancur
11, Facundo Pellistri
16, Mathias Olivera
17, Matias Vina
18, Brain Rodriguez
19, Darwin Nuñez
21, Emiliano Martinez
23, Santiago Mele
Each of the players' names is accompanied by film evidence and the reason for which a disciplinary file is opened.
Until next Wednesday 17 AUF you will have time to present your defenses in writing.
After that day, a period will begin for CONMEBOL to study and resolve whether or not to sanction each of the aforementioned players.
There are no preventive sanctions, so these players are fit to play on Saturday against Canada.
The corresponding penalties must be served in the 2026 Qualifiers matches, starting next September when, during the resumption, Uruguay will host Paraguay and then visit Venezuela.
There may also be a financial fine if deemed appropriate.

It is noticeable that FIFA is not involved (at least so far) so I think any worry of players missing club time should be diminished.

Yes. And, No.Has anyone ever been to any of the big club friendlies in the US over the summer? I've kind of ignored them in the past. Do the top players play much? Do either the players or fans care enough to make things exciting?

Going to see Celtic/Chelsea in South Bend in a couple weeks. This game appears to have been erased from my memory for some reason. Can you give me some more info? Not exactly the same but I went to one of the USMNT exhibitions against Man U a few years back and it was great. This was back right when Pulisic was breaking into the lineup so it was really fun to see him in person and Man U played a lot of their first team guys and top subs.

and anything else you can remember?
I could not find this game listed as a friendly played for the USMNT in any records I saw online. I also checked Man United's preseason schedule for the years Pulisic was young and could not find it listed for them either.
They'll typically roll out the big names because that's who people are paying to see. That doesn't mean they're going all out or that they'll play for very long.Yes. SO, a lot depends on the team, and the timing - many the "big" name players have been playing in the Euros and Copa. This players will typically get 3 weeks of vacation after they are eliminated - so many won't be on any US tours in the next few weeks.
Having said that - these are preseason games, and teams are trying to build fitness in all of their players - and so, end of July and early August expect 1st team players to get at least a half, if not 60 minutes.
These are friendlies - so the players are not at maximum effort - but its not an exhibition kick around, either.
I saw Spurs play Man City in Nashville several years ago - and it was a fun atmosphere with the fans before and during the game.
The tickets tend to be over-priced - but, unless you are planning to travel to Europe to see these players - probably your best chance.
The new hand of godThey found the Colombian fan that punched Nunez.
He is a priest

Amazing stats for a 16 year old, particularly since he's on probably the best national team in the world.
