Hurricane Sandy (1 Viewer)

We got power back Monday PM. Thank god. Now, after stressing all last week, dealing with being cold, and working to split wood, I'm sick as a dog. Great.

The warnings around my town for this storm would be funny if they weren't so sad. This new storm and the floodings that can occur are not as big a deal as the wind. Right now, with so much garbage, debris and junk out at curbs, the big worry is that wind will pick items up and throw them. The very cleanup that we are all doing might prove to be our own worst enemy, since we can't get the debris cleared fast enough.

Still no power and I don't expect it to come in the next day or two now that we have this storm upon us. Just hoping that we make it through this one without further damage.

Can't believe there is another storm coming - just unreal.

Gas stations still have lines - some getting a bit shorter.

Work with a bunch of people still without power - everywhere from Syosset to Massapequa to Merrick

LIPA is just clueless

Still no power on day 10. And with this storm coming lipa is taking all restoration estimates off the table. We could be talking another week or two. Where is the media now that the election is over and no need to gloss overruns disaster???? It is freezing.

You guys without power, do you have gas? Just a bit of advice if you are weathering the storm in your house (go to friend or relatives if an option), I posted this before but boil some water, put it in hot water bags if you have any and wrap them in clothing or towels and take with you to bed to help keep you warm. Be safe.

And it is f-ing snowing.
 Damn Celt - hang in there
Oy. Where are you located? I'm at work in Madison NJ at the moment...looks breezy out, but nothing falling. IF we lose power again after just getting it back, I'm packing up and heading down to my parent's house in VA for the weekend.Edited @ 12:45 EST to add - It's dumping here now. Great.

Thoughts and prayers to all of you dealing with this. Those that have no power, i hope you can find somewhere to go that is warm. NYcelt - wishing the best for you. I hope you catch a break at some point here man.

you guys be safe and if you can not get heat get somewhere south where you can take care brohans
That requires gas. I got too low to wait in a gas line, so going to have to fill up a couple cans. Would prefer not to wait online outside while it is windy and snowing. Still no power and I can tell the inlaws are starting to get sick of me. At east it's supposed to be a warmer weekend. I can tough out lows in the 40's, but low's in the 20's a little much. Heard I may have power by Thanksgiving, but that was before the storm.Only time I've seen Red Cross or National Guard was when I voted yesterday. Good thing Murray and Mangano weren't on the ballot. They've been non-existant during the whole thing.

Got a friend who could let you siphon just enough of theirs to wait in line? Or drive into Jersey to fill up? I have to imagine it's getting easier and easier to get gas in the north and west burbs as everything comes back online.

Seeing a bunch of posts already on facebook about new power outages from people who just got theirs back on.

sucks.

Driving snowstorm- traffic lights out again and a lot of stores have lost power again.

Wonder what the weekend holds?

Swarm of locusts?

Raining toads?

Heavy snow down here on the Jersey Shore. Just no end in sight for those who are still screwed. I hope my power stays on through this.

I have a couple cans that I will fill up when I need to. We got 3 inches of snow since I posted this. Will wait until tomorrow or Friday to fill up when the temperature is supposed to be closer to 50 or so.

JFC. Hang in there buddy. It can't go on forever.

Going to be a scary drive home. Have left my car at my office for the last week plus, using the wife's (her office had not electric so she had been working from here). Of course between no gas, no using my car and everything else, not to mention its the FIRST FREAKIN' WEEK OF NOVEMBER, I still have summer slicks on the rear wheel drive car.

It's been a good run folks.

Can't imagine the frustration everyone is feeling and the stress you're under....stay strong everyone.

Well we have been holed up here at my parents apt here and the power is out.  Bye bye. Get me a gun and point me in the right direction. I am ready to snap. Big time. Rumor is power won't be back at my home for two weeks.

I'm sure you already posted this but are you working? If you have kids are they in school?

:goodposting: Can't believe you guys are getting another storm. Good luck all. Stay positive and as warm as possible.

This is the start of Day 11 without heat, power and hot water here in Long Island.

No gas, my family left to go to my in-laws out of state. I am living with my sister, to be near work.

This has been going on for so long, although I am kidding a little bit, I barely remember what life was like before this nightmare began.

I am paying a mortgage, and ridiculous ####### taxes to live in a great neighborhood that I don't live in, and am not sure when I will be able to return. I just don't know how long I can take this anymore.

I know how lucky I am that my house is fully in tact compared to the damage some took in this storm, but, it is the indefiniteness, and the not knowing when this is going to end that I think is slowly making me lose my mind.

It is a good thing that LIPA is UPDATING ITS ESTIMATE AGAIN!!!!!

Why are a majority of gas stations still without gas? The trucks should be rolling in 24/7 so people still don't have to wait hours to get gas.

I honestly don't understand it. Had tremendous patience through the weekend but at this point there's no excuse. Just a disaster and must blame all levels especially and including County and State leadership.

Two out of the three stations nearest me have only had gas one day since the storm that I've seen. Anyone read any stories as to why the fuel isn't coming in more? Bad enough for people that need to fill up cars but some people can't fill up their generators still. wtf! Gotta stand in line in the snow to fill up a bucket so you have a couple of gallons.

Good news!

NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) - For those trying to cross the East River, there is good news. A source told WCBS 880 that the Queens-Midtown Tunnel will reopen Friday. The source said that Gov. Andrew Cuomo will make the announcement Thursday afternoon. The tunnel, which is operated by the MTA, has been closed since it was flooded during superstorm Sandy.

The problem is still power — or lack of it — not only for the state’s big distribution centers in Linden, Perth Amboy, Carteret, Sewaren and Elizabeth, but for the nearly 2,400 service stations throughout New Jersey."It’s not going to do any good if the pipeline is operational but the distribution centers are not," Risalvalto said.http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2012/11/as_nj_gas_shortage_rolls_on_la.html
Not acceptable. (not you I mean...thx!) That article is from last Saturday and says: However, he estimated near-full restoration of gas distribution by the end of the weekend as power is restored to more areas across the state. It also talks about easing restrictions on interstate deliveries by Christie. They should be eliminated totally until this crisis is healed. Get the trucks on the road from other states.

Okay, God. Yeah, the four year run up to the election was a bit much. But, hey- that's democracy in action for you. Maybe some of us were too wrapped up in the baseball playoffs. The NFL season. The new fall lineup on TV.

That whole Sandy thing was real rough on a lot of people, but as far as your works go it may have been a stroke of genius as well. It got us re-focused on what is truly important in life. No, really- I've seen and experienced it. People working together to get things done. Some putting their necks on the line to help others in need. Maybe we did need a good, swift kick in the behind to get us back on track…

…But don't you think last night's nor'easter and 6" of snow may have been just a liiittle bit of overkill? We get it. Seriously.

:(

It cant be only power. Two gas stations by me had power the day after the storm. There were LONG lines of people waiting for gas. Theyve been closed ever since. Definitely not a power issue with them.

We never even lost power here and were hardly affected by the storm. At least not to the extent of other areas.

There was a post much earlier in the thread from someone in the know re: why gas stations, even those with power, do not have gas. I'll try to find it...ETA: Here it is, FWIW: http://forums.footballguys.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=664530&st=3000&p=14968517entry14968517

Exactly, so the governor was lying when he said it wasnt a supply issue

Unless #5 is the issue.

The lame duck mayor of my town just fired the head of the Office of Emergency Management (who is the husband of the former mayor). I still have no power. :lmao:

Francesa is just crushing the power companies today. Saying they have no leadership... no direction, and calling for them to bring in someone else to do the job.

Bolded the part you are missing. The problem is further up the chain, if they cannot properly distribute the gas from the distribution centers local to NJ then there will be a delay trying to get shipments from distribution centers located further away.

My company here in Pittsburgh has trucked thousands of gallons across state for many of those stations affected. Many other companies around here and in other parts have been doing the same. It's not been fun, logistically speaking...
