Today I learned that this song is a cover though it was written by John and Taupin:Your Song - Elton John (203)
Haven't yet gone and listened to Three Dog Night's version. I am having a hard time imagining it in my head."Your Song" was first released by American rock band Three Dog Night in March 1970 on their third studio album, It Ain't Easy. John was an opening act for the band at the time and allowed them to record it. They did not release it as a single as they wanted to let John, then an upcoming artist, have a go with it.
I'm not sure if "cover" is the right word to describe the author performing a song they wrote that was recorded by someone else first.Today I learned that this song is a cover though it was written by John and Taupin:
I love everything about Solange.
I kind of regret picking Welcome to the Jungle at 1.05 before anyone had any idea how this format was going to play.
I see he's picked from the group I want, so my
Round 17 pick is
Landslide (163) - Fleetwood Mac (1975)
I guess it's on to songs I may or may not acknowledge from now on.
I thought the movie was very good.and Sissy Spacek was great.Round 17
This is the best song left in my groups and was a decent movie.
Loretta Lynn- Coal Miner's Daughter
I'd never heard of it until Smashing Pumpkins covered it in 1994. It wasn't played on the radio stations I listened to growing up, and I didn't have any FMac albums. It didn't become a hit until the version from The Dance was released as a single in 1996.I mostly despise Fleetwood Mac, but I LOVE this song.
It would have been a parallel to my Springsteen pick. ("I don't like them except for this song.")ETA: Just realized this had still been available to me. Terrible pick.
I'm confused. Am I up? There a blank picks still before me a a filled pick after me.
I'll solicit @Eephus input on this. My understanding of "cover version" is that, narrowly and technically, it's defined solely by the release date of recording, while writing credit has no bearing at all. Accordingly, when Bruce Springsteen released a live version of his composition "Fire", The Boss technically covered Robert Gordon (who the Pointer Sisters also covered with their hit version).I'm not sure if "cover" is the right word to describe the author performing a song they wrote that was recorded by someone else first.Today I learned that this song is a cover though it was written by John and Taupin:
Yes. As long as Mrs. R can't pick in that tier, you can go.So if fatguy and Dreaded Marco are the only two left in a tier I have targeted, I could go ahead and pick, since they are after me?
Juicy was high on my list for this group but I went elsewhere after already taking another Biggie song.17.24 - Notorious BIG - "Juicy" (#32)
18.02 - Drake - "Hold On We're Going Home" (#129)
Will elaborate later.
What groups haven't you picked from?Something is wrong with Sheet 3 it says one of my remaining groups is 176-200 but I already picked from that group. There must also be a group that I haven’t picked from that was mistakenly colored red.
Looks like I never picked from 76-100 group. What groups haven't you picked from?
wait a sec... SHEET THREE????!!! THAT"S A THING?!!!!Something is wrong with Sheet 3 it says one of my remaining groups is 176-200 but I already picked from that group. There must also be a group that I haven’t picked from that was mistakenly colored red.
OK, it's been fixed.Looks like I never picked from 76-100 group.
I really wish I had found it before last night.wait a sec... SHEET THREE????!!! THAT"S A THING?!!!!
sunnava. I spent so much time scrolling up and down the song list looking at RED and trying to find my songs.
Totally messed up my late draft strategy. My calculations are all off now.OK, it's been fixed.
It was still working as designed when you took Rush.Totally messed up my late draft strategy. My calculations are all off now.

Probably someone who didn’t realize there was a sheet 3.Who resorted the Draft Sheet? And why are you the way that you are?
Me, too!I really wish I had found it before last night.
JFC people, does no one read krista's posts?Who resorted the Draft Sheet? And why are you the way that you are?
I can assure you, it wasn't me. I touch the crap out of that list and no problems. I've got mad skills. Juggling, yoyos, dishwasher loading, and touching draft lists.Probably someone who didn’t realize there was a sheet 3.
All I know is hit Ctrl+z until it gets back where you want it. if I go too far Ctrl+y takes me backJFC people, does no one read krista's posts?
I was able to re-sort it by round, but the header is now at the bottom. @Northern Voiceor anyone else with better spreadsheet skills than me can try to fix that part.

There are unusual cases where someone covers a song on which they originally played. Former Fleetwood Mac member Bob Welch, very strictly, covered his own composition "Sentimental Lady" on his hit album French Kiss. Welch played guitar (ceding the vox to Danny Kirwan) on the original release of the song, on Fleetwood Mac's album Bare Trees.
I don''t care what the rules are, in my world, if anyone other than the singer/sonwriter performs it, its a cover.Tim made the same point earlier in the thread about covers being defined solely based on release date. I think that's true in most cases but personally I'm willing to give some wiggle room to the songwriter. It's kind of silly to label a song performed by its original songwriter as a cover version.
Didnt know about sheet 3 either.El Floppo said:wait a sec... SHEET THREE????!!! THAT"S A THING?!!!!

This gets cloudy though when you talk about sampling, or versions that are slightly different.......ie Fugees killing me softly....hell Roberta flack wasn't even the original on this one. Plus there tons of songs out there that are written by one person sang by others.....it's rampant in pop music where the goal is often times to write a catchy hit to make money.cosjobs said:I don''t care what the rules are, in my world, if anyone other than the singer/sonwriter performs it, its a cover.
