Bikini Kill- Rebel Girl (1996) #296
Kathleen Hanna can do no wrong. I'd have drafted any of her bands in here... Le Tigre, Bikini Kill, Julie Ruin... and might even get a little bit of hubby Ad Roc thrown in.![]()
I think that link I sent you yesterday of Mocs was him responding to a video you shared of floppinchild playing the drums.floppinha is learning Fast Car on guitar as I type. so pretty.
I'm boring. I just use Gordon's London Dry for martinis. I have to admit that while I enjoy a martini, I'm more of a gin tonic (and specifically the Spanish style Gin Tonica) guy.
there's a favorite spot here in NYC... my old go-to date spot... called Angel's Share. You had to walk upstairs over a japanese market into a typical village/NYU shabu-shabu joint full of drunk college kids and local Japanese (it was on a block that had morphed into a little Japan town). Walk past all of that, and in the front of the shabu-shabu joint was an unmarked door- open it, and you were transported into a little den of hushed speakeasy MadMen (long before that existed) 40/50s style elegance overlooking the street through large industrial steel sashed windows. a handful of tables and a small bar with two Japanese bartenders with the full vested couture get up, including the rolled up white sleeves with sleeve garters (is that a thing?). Each drink was made like they were going through a ceremony (think tea ceremony)- elegant, captivating and very precise- each component placed one at a time on top of the bar, turned to face you and then carefully, slowly measured in to the shaker. Shaker picked up and slowly crescendoing and decrescendoing like a flamenco dance. Shaker carefully placed back on top of the bar and dramatically poured into glasses, handed over with a slight head bow. I would always sit at the bar to take it all in. But with the elegance and precision were equally elegant and precise rules. No groups of more than 4. No menu substitutions, No loud talking. No sitting apart from your party (eg: 2 at the bar, 2 at a table or elsewhere at the bar) and a bunch of others I'm forgetting. Break the rules and you were out, no ifs ands or buts. As a curmudgeon even as a younger man, I just loved that place. I think it's still there- but I haven't been in probably 20 years.I remember Bruno was picky about the few tables in the back room. Your party had to exactly match the number of chairs. Leaving empty chairs and especially moving them was not tolerated.
A Woman under the influenceHeading out to the movies. Who can take a list?

after all the 80s/90s gay pop you stole from me- it's payback. You son of a #####.
I figured that Bikini Kill, Hole, and X-Ray Spex would have made a nice little Riot Grrrl-esque mini-section in my play list.
Today, I found out that there are two kinds of drafters here: gifted and remedial.cosjobs said:I really wish I had found it before last night.El Floppo said:wait a sec... SHEET THREE????!!! THAT"S A THING?!!!!
sunnava. I spent so much time scrolling up and down the song list looking at RED and trying to find my songs.
this one is definitely a euphemismHockey draft tonight, I can be skipped
there go another gay pop classic.
ok- a normal draft, I'd have taken that in the first couple rounds. Kraftwerk was my jam as a kid/keyboardist. got to see them "live" during the ComputerWorld tour while travelling with my parents in Paris. TEE was something I played all the time- even at school, getting the kids who know how breaking and pop-locking. for whatever reason, I opted not to take it this time.. I think it was in the same block as Coltrane.304 Trans-Europe Express - Kraftwerk
this is for Eephus.
I see what you did there, by the way. A little My Little Pony reference to go with it.Try using it in conversation. You'll sound 4% cooler.
Have fun, NV. Must be a pretty big night!Hockey draft tonight, I can be skipped
The Emberswe DID go to a place on Irving... name escaping- that was completely decorated wall to wall with clown paintings. the stuff of drunken nightmares.
This pick means that I am required to take Arianna Grande Thank U Next
Interesting discussion, by the way. Thanks for that,Tasker. Eminem had an enormous cultural impact and his emceeing skills are legendary in the hip hop world. There's no doubt he changed hip hop in terms of lyrical dexterity and what is expected of an emcee. His lyrics don't hold as well today, nor does his anger (at least to me, anyway) but at his peak he was something to be reckoned with.I've been waiting for someone to draft this one. I can't pretend to be the biggest fan of the song itself, though it's not bad. However, I think it's amazing that this song has had such a cultural impact to actually become a long-lasting slang term. I unintentionally used it in my Whitney pick, and it looks like @Ramsay Hunt Experience used it once upthread as well.
This song title has quite literally become a common verb in public parlance. I bet if you asked people where the term "stan" came from, 90% would have no idea it's from an Eminem song....but this uniqueness really speaks to the overall impact of this song.
Are we going to give it a group listen? This pick means that I am required to take Arianna Grande Thank U Next
He is knee-deep in a dirty martini. Probably can move on.

I purposefully left this one for you (thank you for taking it) but hadn't noticed the number! It seems like this song is just sitting there waiting for me, but it is throwing a challenge at me by being #99. 9 is my bad luck number for those that don't know. I'm going for it.![]()
<-- for myself to counteract the number.
Round 18
Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees (# ninety nine)

@krista4
I listened to Ringo's new record today. The first song is built around the drum fill from Rain and it closes with a swinging cover of Rock Around the Clock.
A 13 minute four-song EP is the perfect length for a project like this. It has too many background singers for my taste but how can you criticize Ringo? His voice and drumming are unmistakable as is his happy hippy sentimentality.
Krista texted me and asked that I extend her apologies.
She can only see the thread, but cannot logon on her phone. So she can see what we ar edoing but cannot remind us not to mess up the Song List sheet.
If her picks comes up, she requested I text her for it, or give her number to someone else who can.
Also a bunch of legalese about suing the owners of the rent house she's in for not providing proper internet service.
Eephus is out and sent picks to @Binky The Doormat. Binky, do you have anything from him for round 19?By my math that puts @Eephus back up with 80s and Uruk on skip and Pip already picked
