Official "If You Think The Patriots Deserve An Asterisk" Thr (1 Viewer)

Oh please, you and I both know your coach is the biggest jack### to put on a torn up hoodie and stalk the sidelines. This is a guy who would push your grandmother to the ground if he needed to get somewhere in a hurry.
I'm willing to bet he probably doesn't spend his day online ripping people he doesn't know, so that at least puts him one up on you, although I guess that's not setting the bar very high.....

Anyone watching the Colts-Ravens game? Patriot fans, this is an example of the classy way to play football when you are winning by an obscene amount in the second half. You put in your backups and call vanilla plays. Tony Dungy's classiness >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bill Belichick's classiness
You are right. I don't know what I was thinking. I renounce my Patriots fandom and am rushing out to buy a Peyton Manning jersey. :tumbleweed:

What exactly are the Colts doing different? Indy looks to be running their offense only with Sorgi. Sorgi threw the first play he came in. I thought you arent supposed to throw when you are up 40, isnt that one of the "rules"? Sorgi is 2/3 for 16 yards. It doesnt seem to me that the Colts have had the ball much this second half. They have had a total of 9 plays and passed 3. How is that different?

You're not supposed to have your first team QB and WR hooking up on deep balls when you're up by 40. You put your backup QB in there and run a ball control running/passing game it's totally different from having Brady in there going long to Moss. If you can't see that difference, it's because you're not looking.

So the Colts were not classy all the times in the last few years when they were up big and throwing late into the fourth quarter? At least call them all equally.

I love this thread! Pats win again! So, one of two things must have happened:EitherA. They blew a team away and ran up the score in an unclassy way or B. Won a close game because they were benificiaries of lousy calls by the refs.Which is it, whiny losers?!
Is a Pat's fan ever going to enter a thread and actually show any hint of class? Guess that's to much to hope for...
Are you going to always catergorize Patriots fans as a single entity? I'm a Pats fan originally from MA but now living in southern NJ. I watched the game today with a Steelers fan. If the Steelers had won today I would have congratulated him like a man, no excuses. The Patriots won but he did nothing but make excuses after the game, just like he did when PIT lost to ARZ and NYJ. It was not a classy move on his part, but I don't hold it against the guy. That is how he handles a situation like losing. Many times it is how I handled the same situation as a boy, and a young man. Now that I have grown and matured I choose to react differently to negative events in my life. So please do not say ALL Patriots fans have no class, because it is not true.Along the same line. Some of you Patriots fans, and Patriots haters, have become like a growing number of narrow minded Republicans and Democrats...the right and left wing extremists. Many of you on BOTH sides of the Patriots debate have become obsessed, delusional, and in some cases ignorate. If you don't already know all are very unhealthy characteristics. Some of you, again on both sides, are beginning to look like comic book versions of yourself. That is what many are saying when the call this, and other threads like it, "comic gold". They are laughing at you and your extreme views. You're "side" doesn't have to be correct, or perfect, 100% of the time. Guys it is ok to be wrong or imperfect. Look at the current facts and information, debate them if you wish, and try to stop living in the past.Note: This post will probably get completely ignored by the obsessed and delusional because it is logical and sensible... something the left wing and right wing Patriots extremists are not.

Because it's Sorgi to Aromashodu, not Manning to Wayne! Can't you see the difference? The patriots should put in Matt Cassel and whoever their 5th WR is and let them play. If they put their backups in and if those guys score, fine! You can't really need me to explain this to you.

I never knew there was a segment of the NFL fanbase that held a coach's fashion sense to such high standards.... interesting. Could you give me some pointers on some sensible dress shoes for the office?

Show me the time when Brady hit a deep pass for a TD to any of his receivers in the 4th qtr when up big. I think most of the complaints earlier in the year were about short passes on 4th down.

No that wasn't hoodie guy, it was Pedro Martinez, and not my grandmother he pushed, but my grandfather, Don Zimmer, and his giant melon head.

Show me where I said they scored on a deep ball, TIAHe didn't necessarily score on the deep balls, but they threw a few. And again, it's the players in there more than the plays. I personally don't think there's much of a problem throwing for first downs when you're up, getting the first is the idea. If you'll notice, the furthest Sorgi has thrown it was a few yards past the first down marker. wayne, Manning and Addai are on the sidelines. If the D can't stop the backups, shame on them. It's a different story when your starters are in there and you're throwing it deep. You're either blind or deliberately obstinate to not see the difference.

Could you Pats haters possibly stop crying so much and maybe not watch Pats games if you find them so upsetting to your delicate sensibilities?

Last blowout win the Pats had was against Buffalo and Brady's last play was the last play of the 3rd qtr and he handed the ball to Kyle Eckel for a TD. WEEK 11Against Washington Brady threw a TD with 9 minutes left in the game. A 2 yarder to Wes Welker on a drive in which they ran 5 times and threw 5 times.Tonight in the 3rd quarter Manning throws a 40 yard TD to Gonzalez. Indy was up 37-7. By the book of Brady, shouldnt the Colts have been running it every down at that point?Again show me the game where Brady threw a bomb TD to Moss when up big.

Again, show me where anyone said he did.And as for the Manning TD, it was 2 minutes into the 3rd quarter, not 2 minutes left in the 3rd or in the 4th. No one has ever suggested Brady hand the ball off the entire second half, just more martyr hyperbole from a fan desperate to paint another team with the brush their team was painted with.

Is there really any point even trying to have a rational football discussion with the Pats haters? I think you're wasting your time Pat Patriot. I'm becoming convinced that they spend their whole Sunday trolling online rather than watching a football game. Why is it that these kind of people who complain the loudest seem to know the least about what they're talking about?

You are fighting a battle you can't win. He is a Patriots hater so in his mind weeks 3 - 9 Brady was throwing 80 yd TD bombs to Moss with 3:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter. You are a Patriots fan so in your mind the Patriots have done nothing wrong this year or any year. The Patriots are proving a point this year and doing a damn good job. Anthony Smith was a perfect example how you don't want to upset this team. They made him look silly early and often. The Jets, and Dolphins from Christmas past, have also given the Patriots reason to make them pay in the coming weeks.

100% agree that the Pats need an Asterisk... THEY GOT CAUGHT CHEATING, PERIOD. I don't care if they got caught on the 1st play of the 1st game... they had INTENT to cheat all year long if they were never caught.

see now youre just over dramatizing. you have no idea what their intentions were. maybe belichick was just pissing Mangini off on purpose aiming that camera soley at him. who knows? it happened 3 months and 13 wins ago. there are no certainties here. only theories. but lets keep this straight. you have NO CLUE what their actual INTENT was.

Aside from the toolish nature of your post...I'll be the first to say that NE played fantastic today, and there was nothing in that game that indicated to me that they ran up the score or were benefeciaries of the refs' playcalling. They really looked great. However, I don't think that automatically invalidates all previous arguments. But good win for them. It's going to take a team being at the top of their form to beat the Patriots this year.

Does any other team, or record holder, in the history of sports "need" an asterisk? Or is this the one and only asterisk in the history of American sports?Second question where does this asterisk go in the history books?

The asterisk can't apply to this year. Period. They got no help past the 1st quarter of week 1*. Who cares if they intended too or not. They didn't.It's pretty hard with the evidence (substanitated or not) to believe that it didn't help them in seasons past and for many people the asterisk will always apply to their previous seasons, but this season has nothing to do with the cheating other than they got caught this year. The only repurcussion outside the punishment for this year should be that BB shouldn't be CoY. For the same reasoning that players with steroid suspensions can't be in the ProBowl. But if you want Pats fans to be rational, you have to be. The cheating was nipped in the bud and does not apply this season. Think what you want for the others. I said when it happened that this was the best year to get caught since they would be so good there would be no drop off after they got caught.* I am one of the apparently few that can imagine in-game use of the info gained with today's technology but don't want to get into it again.

 I beginning to wonder if this guy can operate a spoon without hurting himself. This is rich...

Look, some of my fellow Pats fans can get a bit excited... but they've just jumped on this bandwagon and need to beat their chests a bit, while people like myself have been here with this team before in both the bad and good.... but the haters need to stop hating. It's that simple. The Pats are the best... the league is the rest. Don't hate..... Celebrate... This team is somewhere between pennicillan, the remote control for televisions and sliced bread. The haters should worry about their own teams before worring about ours. The only thing the haters should worry about in regards to the new AMERICA'S TEAM!!! is when they see them lining up against their own favorite team. Then worry about the Pats. But don't rain on my parade because teams..... PROFESSIONAL TEAMS!!!! don't know how to play them!!!!

Of course, the Patriots are the only team to ever cheat in the history of pro sports, they not only deserve an asterisk but they should relinquish all championship rings and trophies they have ever acquired. As well, Bill Belichick should be banished from the NFL, nay, the United States of America, and the Patriots should have their team plane en-route to an away game shot down by F-15 fighter jets to prevent them from ever cheating again.
Second question where does this asterisk go in the history books?
It usually goes after the accomplishment.2007 New England Patriots - 19-0*

How am I over Dramatizing anything... fact is they broke the rules; and for no reason.. they're the Best I have ever seen. But when they go 19 - 0; we must always remember that broke the rules in the 1st quarter of the 1st game. Honestly; I think you have too question the whole BB era after that happened.. he was most likely doing this stuff for a while... cheaters rarely get caught the fist time. And yes; if they didn't get cuaght that game; what would prevent them from doing it the whole yr. Now you want too think that BB was playing a prank on Mangini... thats rich.

see now youre just over dramatizing. you have no idea what their intentions were. maybe belichick was just pissing Mangini off on purpose aiming that camera soley at him. who knows? it happened 3 months and 13 wins ago. there are no certainties here. only theories. but lets keep this straight. you have NO CLUE what their actual INTENT was.
Now you want too think that BB was playing a prank on Mangini... thats rich.
Can you imagine the Patriots haters if they got "caught" in the 4th quarter of the Giants game week 17. Then there should be 1 million asterisks, no 1 billion asterisks, next to the 16-0 record.

WHO CARES if Intended to cheat all yr long.. come on, is that how you guys really feel? Should they take away any wins; N0.Should they take away from the 2007 Pats being named one of the best teams of all-time; No.Should it be noted that the 2007 Pats got caught Video Taping their Opponent's Coach and may have had Intent to do this all yr long; YES.

Yes, they surely intended to do it. But the fact is that they didn't. And their cheating ways (that we know of) ended in week 1, quarter 1. So they will have the stigma and embarassment of being caught cheating this season, but they didn't cheat in any of their 13 wins (that we know of). So if they didn't cheat to get any of their wins, how can these wins be asterisked. I agree with their past accomplishments being tainted possibly, but you simply can't apply cheating to the rest of the season since they aren't anymore. Keep BB out of Coach of the Year for getting caught cheating, but none of their wins this year came from cheating so how can the winning record be asterisked?

I agree with their past accomplishments being tainted possibly,
When did they enact the rule which prohibits taping from the sidelines? You DO realize it's legal to tape -- just not from that particular spot?
I'm not getting into it again, if you want to know all that go look up the old threads. You DO realize the NFL sent out the memo prior to week 1 reminding teams that what the Pats did was illegal because of complaints about the Pats doing it?

Yes, I'm aware of the memo, but my question was pretty simple -- when did they enact the rule?
To be fair, the rule has been in effect for quite some time now, but the Packers and Lions (supposedly) complained about it, and it prompted Goodell to send out a memo.

Yes, I'm aware of the memo, but my question was pretty simple -- when did they enact the rule?
And my response was equally simple, I'm not getting into it. I was responding to the poster that this season deserved an asterisk. IMO, it does not. It deserves to be noted as a season that saw the pats get caught cheating but it clearly had nothing to do with their wins. I said my peace about the rest back in week 2.

Ever notice all these guys ever say is "cheat cheat cheat"? It's never "the Pats got caught videotaping opposing coaches signals from their sideline," but rather "the Pats CHEATED!!!" It's a brilliant little label to throw around - saying they cheated gives no hint as to what the transgression was, and whether it resulted in any real competitive advantage or not (and not a single person in the know, former/current coaches, personnel men, scouts, etc. has said that it did).

It's like finding out someone you hate got caught speeding, and immediately branding them a CRIMINAL (they did break the law, right? IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT THEY DID, THEY'RE A CRIMINAL AND WILL ALWAYS BE A CRIMINAL!!! Put an asterisk next to every single instance they showed up ON TIME for something!)

Seriously, it's similar to a smear campaign - just repeat the label CHEATER over and over again until people accept it as fact, regardless of what actually happened. Did they break the rules? Sure, and they got punished (and big bad jerkoff Belichick accepted his punishment like a man too, with no appeal or complaining... but he was tight-lipped with the media about it! What a JERK!!! The same media that recently victimized Anthony Smith, or so many of the Pats haters will tell you).

The Pats get nailed breaking some obscure rule and their Super Bowl wins are all null, the 70's Steelers build a dynasty consuming steroids like water and.... no asterisk there, huh? "Oh, well, there was no official ban back then..."

I wonder how mean big Joe would've been without his daily medicine

Anyone watching the Colts-Ravens game? Patriot fans, this is an example of the classy way to play football when you are winning by an obscene amount in the second half. You put in your backups and call vanilla plays.

Tony Dungy's classiness >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Bill Belichick's classiness
You are right. I don't know what I was thinking. I renounce my Patriots fandom and am rushing out to buy a Peyton Manning jersey.
Oh please, you and I both know your coach is the biggest jack### to put on a torn up hoodie and stalk the sidelines. This is a guy who would push your grandmother to the ground if he needed to get somewhere in a hurry.
Show me the time when Brady hit a deep pass for a TD to any of his receivers in the 4th qtr when up big. I think most of the complaints earlier in the year were about short passes on 4th down.
In week 3 against the Bills, up 31-7, Brady throws a 40+ yard TD to Moss. Not sure of any others, I just recall that one rather well (I was playing the Moss owner week 3)Ni

:goodposting: Thats what I was trying to say... I don't want anything taking away from the Players; they are having an amazing season. However; all I'm saying is that it must be noted that they got caught cheating and may have intended to do it all season long. If you place an asterisk or whatever on the 2007 NE perfect season, it will drive BB Nutz or the rest of his days.

The Team goes 19 - 0; they did it fair and square... no one is ever going to say that they went prefect because of they videotaped the 1st quarter of the 1st game. Should there be an asterisk against any other Team or Individual Records... No.

I love this thread! Pats win again! So, one of two things must have happened:

Either

A. They blew a team away and ran up the score in an unclassy way or

B. Won a close game because they were benificiaries of lousy calls by the refs.

Which is it, whiny losers?!
So please do not say ALL Patriots fans have no class, because it is not true.

Along the same line.

Look at the current facts and information, debate them if you wish, and try to stop living in the past.

Note: This post will probably get completely ignored by the obsessed and delusional because it is logical and sensible... something the left wing and right wing Patriots extremists are not.
:goodposting: So true...

Actually I was going to say the same thing. This really was an excellent post. But, it will be (already has) totally ignored and the complete lack of class and the shouts of "whiny tool" and "cheater" will continue, and Pats posts (noth positive and negative) will continue to fill the front page of this forum and render it fairly useless throughout the FF playoffs.

Ok. I hear you on all this and there are lots of valid points on this theme. Getting busted for cheating is a big deal. It was a big deal when Shawne Merriman and Jason Taylor were battling for Defensive Player of The Year. It's a big deal now. But it's not the end of the world. That's annoying. And it's just as annoying to sweep it under the rug and act like nothing happened.

But we've hit the limit.

If you don't like what NE is doing whether it's running up the score or leg whipping or thinking their records deserve an asterisk or whatever - keep it to this thread.

I don't want a ton of threads on the board doing the same thing so we're going to have this one.

J
filming the other team's signal caller, was NOT cheating, and EVERYONE was doing it.what happened is , Bellichick continued to film the signal caller, even AFTER the NFL told the entire league, to stop doing it..Goodell didn't just say 'Hey, Patriots, stop filming', Goodell told EVERYONE to stop..

the only thing BB did wrong, was to continue to film, in week 1, and thats where he got caught. Its not like he was doing it for 12 weeks, it happened in week 1!!! ONE GAME!

Jimmy Johnson admitted he used to do the same things , when he coached Dallas to 3 SB victories..he was on WFAN-NY back in October, speaking about that. he wen't on to say it was comical , how much spying went on between teams, it was like CIA/KGB-level espionage, that teams were always catching the other teams 'spies' in the hallways, or in the coach's booths upstairs..LOL

But, he did say ,he used to film the signal caller from across the field, and if the coach's booths were on the same side of the field as the opposing team, he'd have his 'spy' stand on the DAllas sideline, and film the signal caller from across the field..

and not for nothing, whay can't opposing teams change their signals IN THE HUDDLE?!

isn't that what an audible is used for? LOL :blackdot:

this isn't Barry Bonds, Palmiero, McGuire..filming opposing teams' signal callers WAS legal until game one of this season..in that game, the Pats were caught filming the Jets. Big Deal.its one game!! ONE GAME!

and, the Colts were caught piping 3rd party sound into their stadium for the Pats/Colts game, wasn't that cheating, too? how many other games did they do that?! how many other teams do it? Everyone..

the Giants have LONG been known to open the garage doors at Giants Stadium, when the opposing team is kicking a FG, so that the swirling winds of the Meadowlands can wreak havoc on any FG attempt. They were caught doing this during a PLAYOFF game years ago, vs. Minnesota..So, thats cheating too, right?

even the Vikings used to open their air ducts in the Metrodome, to prevent opposing teams from making FGs..

Could you Pats haters possibly stop crying so much and maybe not watch Pats games if you find them so upsetting to your delicate sensibilities?
I enjoy watching the Patriots play ball. A significant subset of their fans are an embarassment, but watching their games is fun. These classless cheaters play an entertaining brand of ball right now. I will follow them with interest until their season is done. I suspect this means I will be subjected to much drivel from some, but the ball they are playing is worth, if just barely, the whinning.

Because it's Sorgi to Aromashodu, not Manning to Wayne! Can't you see the difference? The patriots should put in Matt Cassel and whoever their 5th WR is and let them play. If they put their backups in and if those guys score, fine! You can't really need me to explain this to you.
Ij. pir foftj WR. amd a;; [;auers pm tje [ats. [;au freqiemt;u/ Ots [art pf tje BB strategu/ Deve;p[ upir wealmesses as stremgtjs/

I've seen Gaffney playing quite a bit lately. Let's also not pretend that the Colts didn't have a %D to their #2 WR ito go to 44.

I love this 'way you're suppsed to'. I'll go w/ the Belichick method, which has produced 3 SB's. Maybe, just maybe, if the Colts had played a few more series in years past Manning wouldn't have played so poorly in the playoffs? Maybe we wouldn't have seen an 18 point output against Pitt two years ago? Or maybe not the field goal against NE when NE's secondary was defeated? This is not a week to week game. Individual victories mean little. Progressing toward peaking in the playoffs is what it's all about. You advocate not playing hard to get better. I simply disagree. It's not a character judgement, but differences of what makes a team better for the playoffs. I say playing hard. You have a different opinion, but for reasons I can't explain, you think it's somehow classier.

So, anyhow, Manning throws a bomb to their #2 receiver Anthony Gonzales with a 37-7 lead, to go up 44-7. Does the classiness start there, with the 37 point lead, as opposed to 30? Is there that much difference?

What about this game against J'ville earlier this year, where we see Manning connecting on a 35 yard TD pass with under four minutes left. Not egregious agt all in my eyes. But,by your measure, this would have to be at least borderline classless. They clearly should have run, not passed. And, Sorgi should have been in, not manning; or Clark for that matter.

Jere we see ,ammomg cpmmect pm a 45 yarder to Wayne with 10 inutes left and a 3 score lead. Classless? Nope, just football in my eyes. But, I'm not the one saying you should quit playing before the game is over.

Or, is your point only that you felt the Colts were classy last night?, against a team on short rest who lost an emotional barnburner 6 days ago? I'm just ointing out the inconsistency in your thought patter to try and find the consistency.

Kudos to the guy who hired a plane trailing a banner comparing Bonds HR record to the Pats 3 Super Bowl titles with an asterisk, that flew over the stadium pre-game. That was money well spent.
