Top 101 Movies of the 90s. We are done. If I knock out Amadeus/Brazil/Ran, We get to have an 80s countdown!! (2 Viewers)

That's right. I've killed women and children. I've killed just about everything that walks or crawled at one time or another. And I'm here to kill you, Little Bill, for what you did to Ned.

#3:  UNFORGIVEN

My #10 and 80s' #7.     This was one of my biggest surprises of the countdown, and I hinted to @Ilov80s that one in the top 10 might surprise even him.     I usually detest westerns, but this rewatch really got to me this time around and I ended up watching it twice.

I just can't watch PTA- and I tried. It's too damn bleak for me.

I am an unabashed Tarantino fanboy, though, if that helps.
Wait a second - PTA in general is too bleak, but you liked Magnolia more than Boogie?  Now I am doubly confused.

I'm not opposed to this...I have it around 10 so I'm a big fan.  That being said, can't put it above iconic masterpieces like Goodfellas/BoogieNights/Shawshank/Groundhog Day etc.

No, I was trying to be a little more reserved in my criticism of Boogie Nights, after a bout of apoplexy reacting to Magnolia. Boogie Nights wasn't as bleak as Magnolia. Still pretty bleak, though.

Somehow this has gotten even better during rewatches.

This list... is an absolute good. The list is life. All around its margins lies the gulf.

#2:  SCHINDLER'S LIST

My #7, 80s ' #4.   Definitely not a movie for tons of rewatches, just amazing story and filmmaking.   Looking at our list Spielberg managed to dunk on the 90s too.

Its A Hell Of A Thing, Killing A Man. You Take Away Everything He's Got And Everything He's Ever Gonna Have

i do like Westerns and this is one of the best.  Im not a huge fan the genre but I definitely like them.  Except tombstone kind of sucks though

Oh I can imagine.....I just loved the movie....it's not perfect, but I think it stands up.....and the fact that Brandon Lee died during the filming adds to the legacy.....also the soundtrack is one the best movie soundtracks ever and fits the movie perfectly.
Yeah, easily in my personal top 10 of the 90’s as well.

Well, Clarice - have the lambs stopped screaming?

#1:  THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

My #2, and 80s' #8.    Just a perfect movie.   I was focused so much on the acting for the longest time, I didn't realize just how good the direction is by Demme.   All the shots putting you in the perspective of Clarice or of Hannibal staring you straight in the eyes.

The rest of KP's Top 100:

GROSSE POINT BLANK

THE LONG KISS GOODNIGHT
two of my favorite movies of all time, not that I would put either in any top 10 lists. i get strange looks when i say that about Grosse Pointe especially. Aykroid's best role in his later life. Long Kiss Goodnight is one of those movies i've watched a ton and I don't know what about it I like so much. the character relationship between Samuel Jackson and Geena Davis just worked so well.

I say we talk about and post lists here.   Just give me a bit to post the rest of our top 100s and officially post #1.
i may just end up doing some writeups on some favorites instead, have a feeling a lot of what I had will be named and discussed before I can rank an post

Neither list had Leaving Las Vegas?

Not an easy watch by any means but it's raw pathos should not have been denied.

As I posted before - IMO there were a ton of good to very good action and comedy movies that all blurred together, but were still fun.

Action:  Die Hard 3, True Lies, The Rock, Con Air, Armageddon, Face/Off, Bad Boys, ID4, on and on...

Comedy:  Sandlers, Ace Ventura, Wayne's World, Austin Powers, Tommy Boy, K.Smith's

A ton of stuff that I still get a lot of enjoyment out of.

Before we get to the top 5 I will say that the Kevin Smith movies were some of the biggest movers on my list in the other direction.   No way would I have thought that one didn't make my list, but I could barely get through any of them.  Chasing Amy was the closest, just because at least it had some heart.
Huh....to each his own I guess.  I've watched both Mallrats, and and Clerks recently, and found both just as enjoyable as the first time I saw em.

Can we all agree the 90s was the best decade for films?  Making a Top 10 or even Top 25 list without omitting classics is near impossible.
It also hits our wheeelhouse for our age group

Not to pick on my boy 80s but there’s no chance there’s 15 better movies in the 90’s than Shawshank.  I could make a compelling argument that there’s not 15 movies ever better.
I love the movie but maybe there’s some fatigue from it being in TV so much and seeing it so many times. Love the movie but I am bit tired of it relative to some others.

Hasn't aged as well for me because the groundbreaking CGI isn't as groundbreaking anymore, also the child characters became less relevant for me.

Still an all time classic.  I'd have it in the 10-20 range.
I think the effects look better than the new Jurassic movies

#5:  THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION

 80s' #16.
16 is a good ranking, very high. I just found 15 movies I like better.

So 80s had Gremlins 2 but none of these??????  Come on. This isn't real.
Yeah Gremlins 2 is an incredible satire

So I married an Axe Murderer?  Both Austin Powers made in the 90's?.....crazy that these didn't make the cut.....my list would've been completely different.

Brasco

True Romance

Freeway

Dead Presidents

State of Grace

The Birdcage

Nutty Professor

Leaving Las Vegas

Ones that were obviously missing for me:

Sense and Sensibility (80s had it on his list)

Beauty and The Beast (80s had it)

Searching for Bobby Fischer (KP had it)

Babe (neither had it)
