______ Passed Away Today, RIP (12 Viewers)

Val Kilmer, actor who played Batman, Jim Morrison, and Iceman, among other roles, dies at 65.
He will always be Nick Rivers to me

I'd like to offer an honorable mention to Top Secret! - Val Kilmer's career-defining role.

Doctor Flamond: You see, a year ago, I was close to perfecting the first magnetic desalinization process so revolutionary, it was capable of removing the salt from over 500 million gallons of seawater a day. Do you realize what that could mean to the starving nations of the earth?

Nick Rivers: Wow. They'd have enough salt to last forever!

Kilmer's self-documentary is available to watch on Amazon Prime:

Just an observation but when someone relevant from the 80s/Gen X passes away, somebody who was a Gen X Icon, this thread gets a lot more bumps and posts
Does that surprise you, given the demographics of this board?
Lots of '60s/'70s musicians sure to continue to flood this thread going forward.

One I missed from a few weeks ago that I didn't see mentioned here is Jesse Colin Young.

dang, this one hurts. I'm a huge Kilmer fan, some of his performances were legendary. and he was a San Fernando Valley boy. went to high school a couple miles from where I live.

RIP 😥

time for a Kilmer movie marathon this week.

“He offended people by being hard to understand,” said Oliver Stone, one of several people who said over the years that Mr. Kilmer had turned them off before turning them back on again. Robert Downey Jr said he couldn't stand Kilmer when they first met, but they later became great friends. "“I’m sure this can’t be news to you that he’s chronically eccentric."

Love this about him:

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2012, Mr. Kilmer spoke about his absence from mainstream Hollywood for a decade or more and acknowledged that his career arc had been unusual. He had other interests, he said; he wanted to hang out with his kids.

“I don’t have any regrets,” he said. He added: “It’s an adage but it’s kind of true: Once you’re a star, you’re always a star; it’s just what level?”

That's a man who understood what matters most.

My buddy's a script supervisor and was hanging out on set years ago when Val burst from his trailer and ran straight toward him, grabbing him by the shirt and yelling "Did you know MSG is bad for you?!" My buddy replied yes, everyone knows that. Val screamed "I didn't!!" and sprinted back to his trailer in apparant anguish over having eaten far too much Chinese food.

I wish I could remember the stories about Dr Moreau with Val losing his **** with Brando, who was calling it in (I vaguely recall stories of production having to put Brando's script hidden on set and even physically on extras because he never learned it).

or maybe Val was the opposite and loving Brando's approach... can't remember. was good stories either way. you're welcome.

can we add the dow jones and my retirement account here or what take that to the bank brochachos

Hang in there, bromigo. If you're looking for a sliver of good news or a silver lining to this, it's that you strike me as a fella that learned how to slow down and appreciate the small joys in life that don't come with a hefty price tag, like fishing and listening to Brandy and enjoying a nice sausage with some cheese, time with your loved ones and maybe scratching the ear of a good doggo and you can take that to the bank because you don't need much money to find happiness and that's a feather in your cap, friend.

Doesn't help us. We have plumbers digging in our front yard. That don't come cheap.

Ooooof.....replacing the sewer line to the street? Had to do that when we sold our last house because the buyer spotted something on the scope. Yup, that would be a tree root and they insisted we fix it before the sale. That was not fun nor cheap.

Sorry GB.

Not the sewer line. A leak in the line to the house. We're replacing it with better pipe.

All done now.

Amazing work on Dreaming, and many others.
Burke was also an unsung session player -- on The Eurythmics "Would I Lie To You" and as an honorary Blackheart on Joan Jett's "I Love Rock & Roll".

If you're ever around a bunch of Top 40 trivia nerds, you can win a bar bet by asking them how many Hot 100 #1s Burke played on. They'll rattle off Blondie's four #1s ... but miss "I Love Rock and Roll".

Greg Millen RIP

Died yesterday at 67. NHL goalie. Worked as a broadcaster on CBC/Sporsnet for a number of years until a few years ago. I never particularly liked him as an analyst -he would say "unbelievable" about 6 times a game - but 67 is too damn young.

:sadbanana:

Deadline reporting hey it's that guy actor Nicky Katt has passed, age 54. Supporting actor in Dazed and Confused, The Way of the Gun, Boiler Room, Boston Public, A Time to Kill, Suburbia, Insomnia, School of Rock, and A Second Hand Memory.

Saw that yesterday - memorable small role as the bully Clint in Dazed and Confused.

For us Ohio boys of a certain age - sad to see that Tommy Helms passed away. He was the NL 1966 rookie of the year and was a key part of the infield in the mid-late 60s until the blockbuster trade with Houston that sent him, Lee May and a utility guy for Joe Morgan, Denis Menke, César Gerónimo, Ed Armbrister, and Jack Billingham. Helms was a solid hitter and gold glover and coached in the league for years.
