2024 New York Football Giants (hello darkness my old friend) (2 Viewers)

"Neal last played on Nov. 5 in Las Vegas, when he aggravated an ankle injury that was ultimately diagnosed as a small fracture. The injury was repaired on Jan. 5 in a procedure performed by Dr. Robert
Anderson
in Charlotte, N.C. Neal participated in some offseason drills, but not in the team's June minicamp."
I saw a report that they put Jermaine Eluemunor at RT today.
I hope he stays there.

Well damn!!
Eluemunor got hurt in the 1st practice
https://x.com/PLeonardNYDN/status/1816127041172844643
I really hope this isn't serious. This stuff has plagued the rebuild of the OLine.
He seems to be ok
Here is a look at what happened https://x.com/awthentik/status/1816144276025401354
Seems like he caught an elbow in the ribs from Big Dex
I believe getting elbowed from Sexy Dexy would end practice for a lot of us.

Practice? We talking about practice? Practice?
I might lose my life if Dex elbowed me 🤣

I'm not sure if this is positive or negative. Brian Burns beats Andrew Thomas

A lot of the beat writers are saying they have never seen Thomas beat like this in camp before.
As someone who believes their D is going to be top 5 this season I take this as positive.
Staying positive I'll call it another lesson learned for a still improving O lineman who is already pretty good.
Stay positive people:-)

Their DL is stacked. When you get pressure on the QB you can hide deficiencies in the secondary. The Eagles did that when they got to the Superbowl 2 years ago. When they stopped getting pressure, their secondary got exposed.

Yeah our DL has to get major pressure because outside of Banks in the secondary we are questionable and also very young

It has been an up and down start to camp for Daniel Jones and Sunday was no different. He started 2 of 6 passing and underthrew a pair of deep balls to Malik Nabers. This was a continuation of what unfolded the last time the Giants were on the field Friday. But much like that practice, Jones later redeemed himself by hitting six of his last seven throws, including deep balls to Nabers and Jalin Hyatt
When asked before practice what he makes of Jones missing some of those receivers, coach Brian Daboll chalked it up to "it's practice." Meaning there are going to be some good and bad plays. Jones also happens to be coming off a torn ACL in his right knee. He was fully cleared for the first day of camp just eight-plus months after surgery. -- Jordan Raanan

"The Giants signed veteran guard Greg Van Roten. An obvious fit for both sides: Van Roten should step in as a starting guard, which has been the biggest question mark on the line.

The 34-year-old Van Roten has made 71 career starts, including all 17 games at right guard last season with the Raiders for Giants’ O-line coach Carmen Bricillo. Van Roten has played both guard spots throughout his winding career that began in 2012.

This signing is further evidence that Jermaine Eluemunor’s shift to right tackle is permanent."

I wonder if they will move Runyan over to LG (where he played in GB). If they do then the Raider duo will be on the right side of the line.
LT: Thomas
LG: Runyan
C: JMS
RG: Van Roten
RT: Eluemunor

That might be a decent OL

Schmidtz has been sidelined with a shoulder injury and Runyan has been getting time at Center.
That might be the reason they signed Van Roten

Starting OL for today's practice per Art Stapleton
LT - Thomas
LG - Runyan
C- Van Roten
RG - Stinnie
RT - Eluemunor

Van Roten will kick out to RG once JMS is back from the shoulder injury

Really Hope the Giants dont trade Slayton ...especially for a 6 or 7 th rd pick.
I'm still not completely sold on Hyatt and Wan'dale
I'd like to see Allen Robinson make the team over Hodgins
Not sure how many WRs they will keep but I'd also like to see BFW make the team with his upside
  1. Nabers
  2. Wan'dale
  3. Hyatt
  4. Slayton
  5. Robinson
  6. BFW

There were about ~ 8 benches emptied dust ups / scrums at the Lions-Giants joint practice today. Lots of pushing, shoving, yappin’ - but didn’t see any fistfights. Daniel Jones was in the middle of a couple.

Here is a good write up about the practice:
https://www.bigblueview.com/2024/8/...g-camp-takeaways-as-giants-lions-get-physical

The Giants did not get bullied or out-classed in today’s practice. They held their own in the trenches and the defensive line had some positive moments in the run game. The Giants were also able to run the ball at a solid rate
The report has much more detail
You will recall last year the Lions kicked the Giants butt in joint practices.

From the same article

  • Let’s get the stats out of the way. I have Jones finishing the day 11 of 18 during 11-on-11 periods. He was 4 of 4 in a 7-on-7 period.
  • Jones generally had time to throw. He had to move in the pocket a few times, but no plays were blown dead as sacks and he never had to scramble.
It's good to read that the OL seemed solid (at least for a day)

Best news out of camp by far. The Giants are fighting with a team that likes to fight.
Everyone stay healthy and be ready for Minnesota.

@AdamSchefter

NFL confirmed today that the Detroit Lions and New York Giants organizations have each been fined $200,000 for multiple fights that broke out at the joint practices between the clubs earlier this week. All NFL clubs were reminded in a memo sent last month that fighting and unprofessional conduct at joint practices would not be tolerated.

Let Them Play ... Let Them Play !!!

The Giants didn't play too many starters tonight. Nabers and Hyatt were in the game for a while on offense. I think Banks played the whole 1st quarter on defense. That was all that I recall. I don't think the Lions played any of their starters.
Surprisingly, the Giants backup OL wasn't terrible tonight. Lock did get hurt and I recall the early sack being more on him than the OL.
The run game looked decent, all three backs (Gray, Tracey and Miller) looked good tonight.
DeVito looked better than Luck to me
The defense was solid, LB Dayonte Johnson stood out most to me tonight. Dru Phillips was also pretty good tonight.
They blitzed a bit more than I expected based on how Bowen's defense has been described.

"#Giants QB Drew Lock is dealing with a bad bone contusion and strained oblique from last night’s preseason game, sources say. He’s expected to miss some time, but no surgery is required.

Coach Brian Daboll said NYG could potentially add another QB with Lock sidelined a bit."
